Yeah I did spot that....imdb tried to catagorize it and ended up with...Comedy | Drama | Horror...never a good sign so gave it a serve!

Take on baord your issues with Chained, some great acting on display though I thought!

I thought the acting and direction were top notch in Chained, I really 'enjoyed' it when I thought it was some sort of character study, but when that twist happened I thought 'hang on'.   It really didn't have to end like that and would of been a much better film if they would of cut it.  Surveillance was a great little thriller, I might pick it up on Bluray actually.

Yep Surveillance was/is a fantastic film, really caught me off gaurd as well. I knew nothing about it before hand, let alone who it was directed by so it had real impact when events took a twist for the brutal/surreal, really didn't see it coming. Will defo live long in the memory.
About her up coming film, the synopsis sounds a little straight-laced/middle-of-the-road to me.....I'm sure it will be anything but though!

I don't normally exaggerate but when I watched this show for the first time 2 years ago, I thought it was rubbish. Awful acting and the music really put me off. I don't think it's aged well. Maybe I would have liked it at the time when it came out but I just couldn't stand it. God knows how I got to season 2.

You see, I think it's aged very well, but it is extremely divisive.  Even when it was broadcast it had more than it's fair share of detractors, a lot of people actively hated it.  As for the acting, well I think the acting is pretty good overall, but typical for David Lynch, it is very stylized.  The music, in my opinion, is superb.  The main theme is one of the most iconic pieces of music ever broadcast.

One of my fave clips on youtube, Angelo Badalamenti talking about how the 'Love theme' came to be:

Isabella Rossellini's husband, no?

I liked Blue Velvet, but there was too much of Laura Dern (she is a good actress though) and too little of Rosselini. "Eraserhead" and "Mulholland Drive" are by far best Lynch movies for me. "Inland Empire" was visually great but I didn't get it.
And music from "Twin Peaks" is boss. Badalamenti is boss.

Inland Empire is my favourite Lynch film, and I barely understand a thing.  It's like watching one of his nightmares, genuinely frightening.  I also love Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr.

Badalamenti is indeed, boss.

All those you menioned are great films! I also have a real soft spot for the Straight Story, not his usual fare but marveloous all the same!

Will also add that when ever I watch anything new that he's done I have a genuine feeling of uneasy apprehension, there are not many directors about that you could say the same of!
Some may point to Cronenberg as his equal in tha respect, but his more recent body of work is anything but. Think he's even on record saying as much!

Lynch's best film is the Elephant Man, I know this will fly in the face of his other masterpieces; but it isn't his best known film for no reason at all.

What is true is that Elephant Man, is that doesn't feel like a David Lynch Film, per se, the adaptation was partaken with De Vore and Bergen, which perhaps gave Lynch a stalwart, that kept his surrealism at bay.

It is no coincidence that it was one shy of the "Big Five" at the Oscars, it truly is a masterpiece of film, well performed, well directed and well marketed.

If you haven't seen it yet, get it.

I really don't like The Elephant Man.  Obviously, it's superbly made but it's not my sort of film at all, also I don't think it's his most well known film.  If you were to ask 100 people to name a David Lynch movie, I'd imagine Blue Velvet or maybe Eraserhead would top the poll, but then I suppose that would all depend on what sort of people were asked

I've owned The Elephant Man for years, I got it as part of a boxset, I don't think I've ever taken the disc out of the box, not sure I ever will.

Surely Dune is his most famous?

I dunno mate, I think he got Dune off the back of his success of The Elephant Man, it's definetly one of the most famous flops; but it flopped for all the wrong reasons. I think, Dune is a cracking film, the problem is, is that it was up against Star Wars. Star Wars had skewed out a small but vast chunk of the (Action Sci-Fi) Genre, whereas Dune was much more of an Operatta than anything, it was a Saga and should have been a Trilogy.

People's spirits had been raised with Star Wars, it had shown the masses a sensationalist leftie story which captured America's counter culture, before the peak of Capitalism, and people loved it for that. However, what is interesting is that these same political connotations can be applied on the contrary, some would say that the Empire epitomized everything wrong with Socialism and Communism. Either way, the power of Star Wars was in it's timing.

De Laurentis did what every other businessman tried to do, which was to ride the bear; but the dark, brooding, expressionist and cerebral style of Dune, really did turn off the newfound Sci-Fi fans. I remember reading somewhere that one of the biggest responses in test screenings mentioned Star Wars in one form or another. Some would argue that the biggest problem with Dune, was simply timing; I agree, it was not a good time to release a Sci-Fi opera.

I see what you are saying, but I suppose that would depend on what kind of audience you where asking, if it was Family Fortunes, I guess you'd be right, but I would argue that, for the most part, The Elephant Man is his best know film due to it's successes at the Academy Awards.

However, above all, I'd take a stab at saying, overall, the work David Lynch is best known for, would be Twin Peaks. (The difference being, obviously being in the semantics).

Mate, they're kind of the same film. Both films follow Monomyth; even the character dynamics are the same. Some even go as far to say that Lucas' inspiration was Dune.

Oh my sweet fucking Jesus, I might just sleep until 2016.

I knew something was afoot on Friday.  David Lynch tweeted the following -

DAVID_LYNCH David Lynch
Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style! #damngoodcoffee

At the exact same time Mark Frost tweeted this -

mfrost11 Mark Frost
Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style. #damngoodcoffee

Both at 11.30am, the time Cooper arrives in Twin Peaks, Cooper also said this -

"When two separate events occur simultaneously pertaining to the same object of inquiry we must always pay strict attention."

I wonder how they'll get around Bob.

If you ask me, they jumped the shark or revealed to early. Whilst this isn't exactly the right phrase (Rob might be able to summon the right phrase), essentially I think we can all mostly agree when the series began it's downward trajectory.

I've been a big fan of Twin Peaks and may be going to the this coming festival. But in all honesty, I'm a little apprehensive about the plans for a new show. TV has changed so much since it's time, and the 4:3 aspect ratio, the dull looking lighting and that grainy picture only added to the allure. A new generation of audience is out there and they are spoiled. It probably won't have the same affect on viewers that the show did in it's original run, that much is obvious; but the show itself has inspired so many other shows and with the breadth and width of choices out there, it takes something special to stand out from the crowd.

I think that the beauty of Twin Peaks was in it's naivety. It didn't follow TV tropes at the time and it weren't really like anything on TV at the time. This time around it will have finite objectives, clauses, releases, aims, targets, production gegs, financiers and more important; a hell of a lot of expectation. These are added elements that could possibly constrain the original creative foundations of the original run.

One can only hope that Lynch/Frost have total showrunning right; but not only that, one can only hope that Lynch/Frost work independently on scripts/direction and production standards. Too long have projects been tagged to a Director/Producer with a large fanbase, only to be diluted as each passing episode airs. It more or less could be said (others may disagree) with the original run. I think Rob may have more of a quantitative knowledge on the circumstances of the second series, I most certainly have mine, but to put it simply, the second series dipped in quality because the characters became caricatures of themselves. The story by enlarge had potential, but some of the situations and storylines severely limited the shows direction. It started to resemble a joke, about a joke about, a joke about Soap operas, which at first, may have been it's premise, but near the end, it became it's gospel; and with that, I feel, it lost it's charm.

Mark Frost is to write all nine with Lynch directing them. The fact that Frost is writing would indicate that the new episodes are closer in tone to the show than Fire Walk With Me, but it's on Showtime so it could be much darker than what ABC would allow.

The casting could be problematic.  Obviously Frank Silva died and his Bob was an iconic image, then there's Lara Flynn Boyle who didn't return for Fire Walk With Me, it was rumoured she fell out with Lynch over what she considered a lack of commitment, apparently others felt likewise.  Sherilyn Fenn cited a scheduling conflict and McLachlan didn't want to be type cast when approached about the film (the latter had a small part).  These are all people that need to be involved for it to be a success (obviously minus Silva).

I loved Twin Peaks in it's entirety, for me it wasn't about who killed Laura Palmer, it was about the town and the lodge mythology, the murder was just a way to get Coop to Twin Peaks.

That said, I'm glad its nine episodes, hopefully it means there will be no filler and I won't have to witness James singing that fuck awful song.

It may sound ridiculous, but this was the TV version of Kenny coming back as manager when I heard this afternoon!

I am so, so excited, even with a bit of trepidation. It's eased my mind that Lynch and Frost seem to have full creative control and that Lynch will direct every episode. It's their baby, they should dictate what happens. And hopefully Showtime will know better than to interfere.

The casting will be interesting. Most of the cast (with the exception of Frank Silva, Don S Davis and Jack Nance) are still alive, and none are really overloaded with work these days (Madchen Amick shows up in the odd show, and I saw Sherilyn Fenn in the new season of Ray Donovan but that's about it really). MacLachlan tweeted a photo of himself with Lynch last month which seems to indicate that he's on board.

Can't wait to find out how they continue the story. Is Dale still stuck in the Lodge? Who did BOB kill when he was inhabiting the Cooper doppleganger? Will we get to see Diane? Will James still be having doomed affair with rich bored housewives? (I really hope that latter storyline doesn't come up again).

Roll on 2016!
