My dad and bro went to Antalya back in June and enjoyed it, said there were less English than your usual places but that was a positive. My dad said he would go back with my mum possibly in the next couple of months.
Mostly Germans and Russians isn't it? Noticed 95% of hotel reviews on Tripadvisor complain about them saying they're quite inconsiderate. Thankfully I'm staying in the city centre and not any of the resorts so will get to take in a lot of Turkish culture and cuisine.

Me and my Mrs went to Antalya in June, and we were the only English people there. Full of German's and Russians.

The weather was incredible, 47 degrees it got to in the middle of the week according to the clock around the pool, but you don't get treated very well being English, the staff were tolerable, but the other guests were bastards. The only people who treat you well are the market traders, but that's just because they all want to get their hands on your "English money".

We enjoyed ourselves, but wouldn't be in any hurry to go back. There's a reason Brits can get cheap deals for Antalya.

Edit: Also if you are going to Antalya, take Euro's not Lira. Everything is priced in Euro's and it is a pain in the arse taking Lira as everybody makes up their own exchange rate, and a few shops won't accept it. Failing that, take British Sterling, you'll live like a king for the week.

Can someone explain Dubai to me?

What are the main areas and where is best to stay in terms of area?

There seems to be so many luxury hotels at good value but not sure if there are areas to avoid. Wouldn’t spend much time on a beach but would like to be in the heart of it.

Currently looking at Dubai for September time but still not sure on it. I think the luxurious side of it appeals to me. But not really sure what you do there... think you have the option to do everything, a bit like the US. Shopping, good food, drinks, nice hotels, a beach If you want it.

We did Vegas last summer for the second time. Want something as varied but a bit more chilled out.

Kids or without?

With can’t go wrong with something like the Atlantis although you can do as just adults

When we go as a couple we go to jumeirah creekside which is a business hotel but comes with what you’d expect from jumeirah

Travel around by taxi cheap enough and tram is very good

Loads to do!!

Will pop some stuff down when on computer not on phone

Dubai isn’t a bad place for two or three days. Plenty of unique things to keep you occupied but overall it is hard to get away from the fact it is a weird place. Not sure on your planned length of holiday but I would only really go there as a transit point to somewhere else / better. Oman is an amazing place if stunning natural scenery and road trips are your thing. Or an easy two or three day trip from Dubai is the Musandam peninsula.

You wouldn’t recognise the place now if you haven’t been for 15 years

As jovajova says above 4-5 day breaks are very good there

I’d go every year if money allowed but anything longer than 5 days is too long

Booked Budapest with the missus for our birthdays (2 days apart). Anyone got anything they particularly enjoyed when they went there? Looking for a few ideas that aren’t the sort of thing you get on tripadvisor. Late April.
I'm sure it will be on TripAdvisor, but if you're at all interested in the communist era history then don't miss Memento Park. It's a bit out of the city, but easy to get to by bus - it's where they've gathered a whole load of the communist era statues from various different countries, and I found it totally fascinating. There's also a video room showing some of the communist era propaganda stuff.

Went to Dubai for my wife's 50th, stayed at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, amazing hotel but the place is as plastic as they come. The staff come around your (private) beach giving you lolly ices, drinks (nice) and spraying your feet to keep you cool (weird shit). If you like a drink then its probably not for you as it is very expensive and you need to keep yourself in order as the police (and religions police or whatever they are called) can and do act with total impunity.

One of them places were I am glad I experienced it first hand but would never go again.

yes i am surprised about the mixed reviews

Things to do: (not knowing what you're into of course!)

Burj Khalifa
The fountains outside burj Khalifa
Burj Al Arab - boom the chepaest afternoon tea to get in the place. well worth it
Dubai Mall - Indoor ski slope - three runs including a black run
Penguin experience - conservation of penguins but you can do an experience where you go and meet them and all that stuff
Dune buggies
Golf
Wadi Wadi Water park (stay at a Jumeriah and youll get comp access)
Shopping of course - Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates
Atlantis Hotel - go and see the aquarium
Creekside - by the tennis stadium - nice bars and restaurant

The place is ostentatious theres no doubt about that and strict in some ways (never had an issue myself. If you drink in the restaurants and hotel there is no issue) but for a 4-5 night break you have plenty to do, get looked after very well and you are guaranteed the weather.

Enjoy!

Don't be put off by the malcontents. It's perfectly fine if you like that sort of holiday. There's nothing really very old and it's clearly created to be a tourist destination, rather than naturally evolving into one over centuries, but I'd say it's certainly worth experiencing.

Off to Egypt soon - Hurghada resort.  Booked a trip to the pyramids and possibly the scuba diving.  Anyone got ideas on how much things are over there - we are going all inclusive but i'm thinking more of knock off goods like footie shirts / Boss Polo shirts etc (got some good deals in Turkey) so am thinking of buying most of my holiday clobber when i'm there.

We are taking the kids in October as the missus promised them, staying at the JA Palm, 15 restaurants, I think 3 pools, shooting range, watersports, playstations for the kids. We will probably do the Burj Khalifa but mostly will stay on the resort.

Went 10 years ago in the middle of summer, far too hot, 48c air temperture. We stayed at Le Meridein near the airport and there is an area with bars and restaurants to cater for Westerners and locals, there is even a brothel there. Did the Dubai mall, but you get funny looks off the locals, so not arsed about going there again - also did an open top bus tour, like sticking your head in an oven in July.

I was going to knock some pissed up Irish c*nt out in a bar until I was strongly advised not to.

Exactly this. I know people who go regularly; I can't see any reason to do that myself, but they seem to love it.

As you say, we're all different. I've never been on a typical resort package holiday in my life. Just doesn't interest me. Done lots of odd little places and lots of self-catering and camping and expeditions. Suits me better

My brother in law goes all the time to Dubai, I don't get it myself, if it was up to me I wouldn't be going in October, Dubai just didn't do a thing for me when we went 10 years ago - thought the Burj Al Arab was tacky, money doesn't impress me, taste does, but the missus wants to take the kids so I'm not staying home.

I love blobbing about on holiday, mainly cos life for me is so hectic I just want to switch off.

None of them are into Disney, even when they were younger. Your are right, the kids are older, they are 8, 2 are 10 and 13, so it will be roller coasters and water parks. We went with our 2 in 2017, 7 and 9 then, we did Lego land which they loved, Universal, Sea World,Discovery Cove and Volcano Bay (opened the week we were there). Discovery Cove is brilliant, swimming in the big lake with massive rays and loads of fish.

As for knackering, we walked the legs off them - my missus prefers to walk everywhere, so they were done in.

I've heard mixed reports on Lego Land but we're still doing it, my son will be nearly seven when we're there and he loves Lego.
We've got our discovery cove tickets, that's probably what I am most looking forward to, we're booked in for the dolphin swim and a sloth encounter  ;D

Lego was really good and the coach transfer from International Drive was dead easy, he should love it there. We ended up buying an X Wing and a Tie fighter from the shop though.

You have to use the Discovery Cove sunscreen, so lather your son in your own factor 50 before you set out, their stuff washed off our two and they got burnt shoulders. Also get there early as the queue for breakfast is big. We couldn't do the dolphin swim as it was fully booked sadly. Swimming in the lagoon is brilliant, you can touch the rays and swim along with the massive ones and there is a bit where there are sharks behind glass, I spent ages in their and on the lazy river.

Going to Vegas in few weeks and need a new suitcase since my parents broke mine when they borrowed it, so any recommendations? a light one with 4 wheels would be handy, and warranty would be a bonus!

My missus just bought a couple from either B&M or Home and Bargain, about £25 each, nice and light. You don't want anything too expensive, as the groundcrew will just lash the fuck out of it anyway.

Standard behaviour this, I've seen how they launch them down the hold at Manchester.
