Was behind one of these for about 10 miles on the M1 this weekend. What a beauty. Really rare to see them these days, was in absolutely gorgeous knick too.

And before some smart arse mentions it, I'm aware that this is a picture of a model car, rather than an actual Delta ;D

My 10 yr old wants a Boxster when he is old enough. The annoying thing is, he has more than enough money in the bank to buy one now while they are relatively cheap, but the missus won't let me get him one, keeps saying the money is for a deposit on a house.

He'll probably end up with getting a Cayman when he is old enough.

how tall is he, because if he ends up over 6 feet I wouldn’t get a boxster!

He's about 5ft 4 already. I used to be 6ft 2 (shrunk 2 inches over the years), his Mum is 5ft 11, her Dad is 6ft 5, so I think he will be well over 6ft. I sat in a Cayman yesterday while I was getting my car serviced and I fit OK once I was in, then again I have stumpy legs

You want to buy a 10 year old a Porsche? What do you mean by relatively cheap? Are we talking £150-200?

About 6k. Obviously I'd have to drive him around in it til he is old enough  ;)

It sounds nuts, but I keep thinking back to my youth and when I lusted after stuff like the Capri Tickford and Brooklands, Escort  RS2000, Escort Mexico, Audi Quattro. They could all be picked up for what was a decent price back then, now it's north of £35k to get one of them. A 1980's 911 will set you back anything from £34k upwards, they were £10k not that long ago. It's just an idea I've got knocking about in my head at the minute, one of those investment type things, get him one now, store it securely and then when he gets old enough he can either keep it or sell it.

A Boxter isn’t going to appreciate in value though.

Even the original Bugatti Veyron's are depreciating and there was only a few hundred of them made.

They made tens of thousands of boxsters and there is zero scarcity of either the models or the parts. You would literally be losing him money and you'd also have to maintain it for 7 years.

Cheers lads. It was only an idea I had kicking about, but I wouldn't have spent anything until I had discussed it with someone who knew the markets. I'm more into my bikes and I know which ones will become collectable and which ones won't. Just had a quick look and apparently the Anniversary 550 Spyder is the one to go for.

Even better if they do keep losing money, then he can get a nice Cayman when it is time   :)  His current ambition is to be a pilot, so a Porsche will suit him.

To be honest, never mind the cost, you'd struggle to find a company even willing to insure him.

Air cooled 911's went through the roof and I thought I'd missed the boat on 911 ownership but the 996 first water cooled flat 6 911 that effectively saved Porsche from extinction, can be picked up anywhere from £9k - £18k in C2 or C4 format. C4S coming in at £16k - £28k then the Mezger engine Turbos and GT3s going for £30k upwards. Not necessarily an investment but a clean manual 996 C2 coupe with FSH won't lose money and probably make a few quid.

I remember being the talk of the playground for weeks after my tenth birthday, when I was the first in my class to get a Tamagotchi. It died in a mountain of its own shit a few days later and since then I’ve always regretted not asking for a Porsche Boxster instead.

The 996 isn't held in high regard by Porsche fanatics because of the headlights, the (mostly) shared interior with the cheaper Boxster and it going against tradition by being water-cooled. Not to mention IMS issues on some of them. That said, they are still nice cars. A little pricy to repair if you need to rely on a dealership. You need to find a moderately priced independent shop and/or learn to do oil changes and other routine work yourself.

If it's a Cayman or Boxster he wants, surely he needs guiding towards being a hairdresser?

A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

Can I give the very opposite of car lust?

The Bentley SUV (based on an Audi Q7 chassis I believe) is the single most hideous and unnecessary car ever built. It surpasses the Porsche Cayenne even..

First time I saw one I almost puked.

I hate SUV's anyway, Bentley, BMW X series, Cayenne, Audi Q series etc, nothing but hulking boxes that do nothing but block your vision.

Worst though has got to be the Lamborghini Urus, Lambo started off making tractors, but who the fuck wants to drive one on the road? Ferrucio Lamborghini must be soinning in his grave, as will Enzo Ferrari, because Ferrari are making one now. Ferraris are for racing for fucks sake.

Love mine, the fanatics most of who have never owned one, don't know what they're missing. Those headlights won Le Mans btw. What the haters have done is keep the prices down but people will stop cutting their nose off to spite their face eventually and prices will rise.

I know a guy who had a Boxter in silver. He traded that in for a Carrera which he still has today.

Your lad must have some paper round if he can afford a Porsche at 10.   ;)

This fella was telling me how he gets so much hate driving the Porsche. It regularly gets spat on. Coppers pull him up. His insurance company said the Porsche is the car that gets keyed more than any other, too.

Jealousy is a nasty thing, eh.  :-\

Not a bad gift...think its a 67 Corvette
Could be a 67. Heavily modified. Aftermarket wider wheels, wider tires, seats from a 1984 -? model. Different hood, even the front fender (maybe?, too lazy to check) and rear bumper look modified. Aftermarket exhaust too. I'm guessing he probably has some serious engine work in there as well. The car's probably a rocket in a straight line. Nice.

Chris Harris review on the new Porsche "992".

I hate to say i hate the rear lights.

The new rear end hasn't gone down well in the Porsche lovers circle. It's just too uninspiring and bland for my taste.
