You'll soon be back to pounds shilling and pence, feet and inches, pounds and ounces and gallons.

Well all those trendy bars selling ale in schooners have certainly devalued the pint.

...and an American gallon is bigger than an imperial gallon.

It's the opposite, which is surprising given their penchant for having the 'biggest' everything.
1 US gallon is 3.78l
1 G imperial is 4.54l

Im 52 now, lived in Asia for 18 years, 7 years ago I was driving past a field with my wife when I saw plants growing, I asked what they are, she said they are pineapples, I said "Bollocks, Pineapples grow on trees, everyone knows that".

Anyway, Pineapples grow in the ground like carrots. Who'd a thunk it??

Not like carrots, the pineapple is above the ground.

LOL

I have just realised the Washington DC is a City on the east coast of the US, and isn't the state on the west coat.

Literally blown my mind.

Hang on, did you think the capital of the US, the White House, that big triangle thing and all the rest were over on the West Coast?

Although back when I was little and heard County Durham mentioned one the news I assumed it was in Ireland!

Something I only learned a couple of years ago, the Midwest United States are nowhere near the midwest of the country, the name being a holdover from the 1800s

A girl in work was having a laugh at herself the other week for causing mayhem at a petrol station in her new car.

She pulled up on the wrong side of the pump [thinking she was in her old car] and then proceeded to do a 74 point turn to get her car turned round so she could fill it up.

She's convinced she'll do the same thing for weeks to come, until it sinks in that she's changed her car.

She and all of our other colleagues looked at me like I had 5 heads when I pointed out that every car has an arrow on the petrol gauge which points to the side of the car that the filler cap is on. Literally every one of them thought I was winding them up. A couple even went out to their cars at dinner time and came back incredulous that I was telling the truth.

Please restore my faith in humanity and confirm that this little factoid is common knowledge, and I just happen to work with idiots.

I learnt about the petrol gauge on here. It was only after reading it on here that I noticed the small arrow on my own car...

They don’t grow in the soil like carrots. They’re above ground but in a smaller plant rather than a tree.

Haha fair enough. My American history knowledge is a bit crap and I think Philadelphia was the original capital but by the time they had settled there and won independence I think they’d barely discovered or settled the west coast.

DC United are on the East Coast - DC is district of Columbia, which is where Washington the Capital and not Washington the Pacfic North West state is.

I used to work part time as a delivery driver. Delivering urgent computer parts to engineers. One evening they asked if I wanted to do a delivery to Chepstow. I said yes thinking it must be close to Walthamstow.

It was a 300 mile round trip.

Is the "big triangle thing" the Washington monument? If so, it's actually an obelisk.
