I've been, have family out there, and would highly recommend it.

Quite expensive. Loads to do, and a shoppers paradise, and very favourable exchange rate at the moment.

Been there a few times, the latest was in 2005 and I watched our 0-0 against Juventus in a bar. I'd like to actually go there when it was warm though.

You've got to go, very busy but a great city.

Great place - I wouldn't go in June-August though as it can get really hot and humid. You're best way of seeing things is by walking around loads so Spring/Autumn times are probably best.

Yep, several times - last was a few months ago and lived in Greenwich Village for a while a few years back. If you've never been, you've really got to do the whole tourist thing. I know it might not seem cool to do the stuff that all tourists do, but trust me - there's nothing like watching a film a few months later and going 'I've walked down that bloody street!'  It is expensive (and the 'touristy' stuff even more so) but if you're not likely to go back there for a good while, you've really got to splash out and do everything you can possibly think of.

It's weird in some ways, though.  I remember the first time I went - I was thinking t it was a bit like being in London (only in as much as it's a big city with a lot going on), but once it started getting dark and you're in Times Square or Broadway or you look up and see the Empire State & Chrysler Buildings lit up it's truly mind-blowing. Just don't be soft about the common sense things - stay out of Central Park at night, you know - things like that. But on the whole the people are great. And of course, being Irish or a Scouser tends to get you Brownie points in a lot of places, but especially New York City.

It's good. I've been several times - last time was for a Valentine's weekend. It snowed, had a wind chill of -30 and it was touch and go whether our return flights would be cancelled. I would not recommend a winter break, it does get really cold.

I felt safe walking along Broadway at midnight. That said, NYC taxi drivers are certifiable, especially in snow, and the Empire State was worth the queue and the frostbite at the top. My missus got obsessed with Macy's. As a Brit, NYC is spectacular, but it does not feel as alien as other US cities do.

Likewise the winter, can be f'ing freezing in Manhattan due to the winds being tunnelled down between the tall buildings.

Great place to go though, highly recommended. It has just about everything.

As Quentin Crisp once said 'Pack tonight, leave tomorrow'.  You must see it. Fantastic place. You'll get a sore neck though from looking up at the buildings.

Absolutely awesome mate. I went over on a work freebie a week back. Its the most amazing place on earth. Want to go back later in the year actually - the place is cool as funk.

There are expensive places but there are reasonable areas too. We stayed in the New York Palace hotel which is mid-town manhattan. Everything costs a bomb round there and everyone wants a tip. We went on a night out to the meat packing district (all the birds knew where it was because aparently it was made famous by sex in the city) and it was ok there price wise. Went to a bar called Hogs and Heifers (the one made famous in Coyote Ugly) - $10 in and $25 for 4 buds and 2 sambuca's. I'd say that's pretty good value even compared to over here.

Next day we went out round Grenwich Village and f*ck me it was pricey. Full of R & B types, posing with their $15 pints. No ta.

I can also recommend the East Village. Went to the 11th St Bar to watch the Derby the other week. We were sat up at 8am with a pie and a pint of brown ale. Cant whack it. We were still there at 4.30 in the morning actually.

Proper mad night. Say hello to Kenny the Barman from me if you go....

That district has more of a 'local' feel to it, whereas mid-town is just mad.

Walking from our hotel, past the Rockerfeller centre down to Time sq and Broadway was just awesome. Every building must have been 50 floors high at least. You'll deffo have a creak in your neck if you go there, from staring up all the time.

Roy. Shut up. Just shut up.

Been twice for long weekends...

First time in February 03, when it had snowed the week before & was freezing (it also rained a fair bit).  Fantastic to see all the sights you've only ever seen on TV or in films & there was a real 'wow' factor everytime you saw a famous landmark!  My wife was able to go iceskating in Central Park, which was something she'd always wanted to do.  We stayed in the Novotel & had a room overlooking Times Square, and the room rate was fairly cheap.

Second time was in September 05 and the weather was the complete opposite with glorious sunshine the order of the day!  It was completely different going for a 2nd time as you've already seen the majority of the sights the 1st time.  We also found the hotels to be unbelievably expensive and ended up staying in the Red Roof Inn which was located in Korea Town, round the corner from Maceys.

I'm glad we've been at different times of the year, as the city is completely different & it is still my favourite destination & I can't wait to return!

In for a week, Out for a month....Duncan is a Tampon!

I'm 20, I'm planning on at least graduating at the age of 25/26 (so that still gives me some time), and then I'd fuck off out of Belgium. Hopefully my girlfriend will join me then, if not (because of her work, for example, she's 2 year older than me) I'd still go to be honest. If the girlfriend-not-coming-along would be a case, I'd move and stay there, but not permanent.

Either way, I'd welcome you mate. NY can't have enough Jews and Irishmen ... ;)
