OK Human is easily the best Weezer album since The White Album and might be even better than that.

Ooh...looking forward to this even more then!  Ordered it from Resident Music in Brighton, but it looks as though the physical versions aren't actually released until 12th February.  Wish more places did an instant digital download, like Bandcamp does, but I guess there's no value in that for such retailers.

It looks as though it's all available to listen to on YouTube, so I'll likely take that liberty (given the order is in) when I find the right hour for it!

Been a good couple of days for releases.

Really digging the new Goat Girl and Divide and Dissolve records (the latter defo one for Filler and Chip).

Liverpool's best kept secret, Claire Welles, released her new one today, too, called "Dazed".

Managed to get an interview with her for those interested. http://sun-13.com/2021/02/01/claire-welles-interview-i-enjoy-being-liverpools-best-kept-secret/

Great to hear from you after ages mate. Hope you're well. Great interview that too. I'm going to have to give it a listen just on the basis of that interview.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Some great recommendations in here as usual.

I am really digging Sleaford Mods, Goat Girl, Shame, Viagra Boys and latest Osees release that came this week.

I have been on a massive Sparklehorse vibe too.

One for Sam - did you see that Ryley Walker + Kikagaku Moyo release?

No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

Enjoyed hearing these on Six from time to time a few years ago, and I saw them perform a fantastically energetic set supporting Ezra Furman at Manchester's Albert Hall back in the autumn of '19 - I'll be ordering this record at the end of the month; looking forward to giving it a go.

Their set supporting Furman really made an impression, and I've no idea why I didn't get their debut album straight away - I ordered both that & the new one after this post and have given the first one a few plays since: wow...this is brilliant!  Haven't even played the new record yet because I'm enjoying the first so much.

Love My Work is Full of Art and Day Tripper in particular.

Although I haven't really enjoyed their music for a while, I felt compelled to listen to the new Foo Fighters album. Ehhhhhhh. It's probably their best album since 2011's Wasting Light, but that doesn't really say much because they've had a stinker of a decade. It's still a perfectly pleasant listen, but the spark they had in the late 90s and early 00s is long gone imo.

The new Hayley Williams album is a massive improvement for me on Petals for Armor. Can't say I was particularly a fan of her debut effort last year, nor was I a huge fan of After Laughter, but I was a huge fan of peak pop-punk Paramore so I'll always have time to listen to whatever she puts out regardless of the direction Hayley decides to take her music in. I enjoy this pivot she's made towards a more chilled, melancholic acoustic record. In many ways, it reminds me a lot of Folklore last year from Taylor Swift. Will find myself re-listening to this a couple of times I think

It really is great. Saw her at the Central Library when she toured Liverpool in 2017. So glad she's kept the backing band with this album. Will Kidman from the Constantines and Ian Daniel Kehoe (Julia Jacklin's drummer) are involved here, too, I think. It really works.

Yasmin Williams' new LP Urban Driftwood.

It's really beautiful, have listened to it lots over past couple of weeks.

I heard a couple of tracks unaware who they where and liked.. then I read they are flavour of the month....appears that flavour is marmite...then again think if you read the hype first theres a natural resistance.. well for me there is...anyhoo...think I will get the Lp from what I've heard

OK Human is easily the best Weezer album since The White Album and might be even better than that.

Found the writing a little cheesy on first listen (I think Cuomo's enthusiasm for contemporary references can make me cringe a little, for reasons I'm unsure of), but it's grown on me massively after a third spin.

Really enjoying Du Blonde (feat. Ezra Furman) with I'm Glad That We Broke Up from the upcoming album, 'Homecoming' (which also features Shirley Manson, Andy Bell, and others):

It's Sunday so I'm relaxing (or trying to)

Following his scooping of top spot in my RAOTY 2020 with his ambient banjo and lap steel lullaby 'Alexandra', Andrew Tuttle has a new collaboration with Padang Tigers, out recently.

https://andrewtuttle.bandcamp.com/album/a-cassowary-apart

It's v similar to 'Alexandra' which suits me perfectly.

To celebrate its release, he did a lovely livestreamed gig:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/2Qtm30EeE_I" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/2Qtm30EeE_I</a>

Ideal to drift away to.

Of course, 'Alexandra' was mixed and blessed with the sounds of ambient pedal steel player Chuck Johnson, who also has a beautiful new record out to follow up his majestic 'Balsams' LP.

Is Slowthai the fella that let himself down a hit at an awards show a couple of years ago, with some comments that Katherine Ryan handled very well?

So did his last album I think (which may also be his first, not sure), but I couldn't really get into it. Versatile rapper but not in any way a great one, as far as I can see, and his voice really grates on me. Like yous said said, bit of a dick at that awards thing too. I like his affordable ticket ethos mind, and I saw an interview where he came across as a decent bloke actually, so Christ knows. I don't feel any great desire to rush out and buy his new one though. Maybe I'll give it a listen if it makes the next AOTY top ten or summat. So never, hopefully.

Dug into the new album by The Pretty Reckless, "Death by Rock and Roll" earlier in the week. This for me was very much an album with a number of impressive highlights but also a fair amount of fairly boring, generic tracks that failed to grip me one way or the other. For every My Bones or Standing At The Wall (the 2 standout tracks for me), there were songs like Witches Burn and Turning Gold that did nothing for me. That said, it was still very good. I have my favourites that I'll add to various playlists. Instrumentation was impressive throughout; borrowing musicians from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine was an impressive flex.

Anyone else got Julien Baker's upcoming album, Little Oblivions (released Friday), on their radar?  I'm a big fan of Baker's first two albums (though I've inexplicably not yet listened to her work with Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus as the collective boygenius), and the singles/promos suggest that the quality remains but the sound is somewhat different.  Some really good reviews coming in too.
