Follow up to my post about playing COD for the first time. Just started and I'm loving it. Looking for a few basic tips though. Whenever I kill someone I pretty much always get killed myself right after. Maybe that's a sign that I should be closer to my teammates or something? In general I'm pretty clueless as to the most effective way to move around the map is.
Stick to the map edges so you know that at least one side if you will always be enemy free - avoid the middle of the map.
Don't sprint as much, and definitely dont sprint around corners, you will get wrecked every time.
When going around corners, you dont necessarily need to aim down sights, but at least make sure your cross hairs are pointing at the furthest point around the corner you can see all the time, i.e. the first place you will see an enemy.
Listen for footsteps (especially in this game)
Use the minimap - even though it currently doesnt show enemies when firing their weapon, the location of the rest of your team will give you a good idea where the enemy will be spawning.
Take the time to learn the maps - this can come from experience.
Find a gun you are comfortable with and stick with it to start with, all guns behave differently, recoil patterns are different, so get used to one whilst you learn how to play.
Find a sensitivity you are comfortable with that allows you to compete - COD is a game based on reflexes and ability to react quickly, if your sensitivity is too low you wont be able to respond to threats quickly enough.
Don't reload until you are safe to do so - it can be tempting to reload after every kill.
Watch your kill cams when you die, good info on how others are winning the gunfight.
Aim for the core of the enemy player, dont aim for the head until you get more comfortable.
Thats off the top of my head - theres a lot to think about.
