Funny thing this thread, people saying San Andreas was the best/worst game ever and how GTA4 was boring/brilliant.

As a kid I had many Nintendo consoles so never really got the chance to play any other GTA till I bought an Xbox360 and got GTA4. I thought it was class but I couldn't compare it to any other.

Also what GI said above, maybe they could mix the development of RDR with this game.

Partly in prison would be good like Mafia II and when you come out its a new era and it's all changed. Also snow was missing from IV, new York with out snow?!

If it's a European city, it will be worth getting my PS3 fixed. Desperately hope it's something different from the usual American cities.

I highly doubt it'll be set outside the US. Satirising American culture is the foundation of the series, the radio stations in particular.

Eh, no it didn't. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to continue playing as him...

It was Packie that got on the plane. Highly doubt it will be him though. In fact, I doubt there will be any characters back from the IV era. This is a new era now and like the III era I think they'll use all new characters now.

Imagine how brilliant it would be if the trailer says at the end: Released 11.03.11, if they did do that it would still sell aswell because everybody loves it.

In other GTA games ive wanted characters to make a return from previous games, like in SA most of the ones I liked from previous games were in it. In the DLC for Gta 4 there was only two I wanted to be in it, Brucie (The Roid head) and Little Jacob. In this new one I dont think apart from them two, theres only Luis who I thought was good, that rich guy Yusif & maybe Gay Tony id like to come back. The main characters were shite, Niko was just boring to me, Roman was alright, but the rest were boring. I think Packie and his family will have something to do with this, wasnt there some rumour at the end of the 4th that Packie goes to SA?

By the way, you know all these people looking for clues in previous games? Has anyone ever went back and checked if these clues ever meant anything after we now knew what the game was going to be etc? Just curious as to how accurate any of them were.

Vice city was phenomenal. But I hope they don't just remake it and try to recreate it, because they will fail. I mean, I think I enjoyed gta3 far more than gta4 beven though the latter was such a better game technically.

They need to mix it up a bit.

Exactly. People who think it can ever be anywhere outside America completely misunderstand the entire series. (I know they did a London one but it was shite and inconsequential.)

 This , is right.

GTA 4 in particular was an examination of 'the American Dream' and what it means to have money and status in the US. I actually that R* pulled GTA 4 off brilliantly, despite it being less quirky than Vice City and San Andreas. I loved the character of Niko - I thought that seeing the game world through an outsider's eyes was a great touch and the way R* layered his past was really well done.

My second favourite character was Dimitri. I know he definitely won't be back for the next instalment (unless it's set pre-GTA 4) but I thought he was just an excellent character, really interesting. I was actually kind of sad about killing him.

Packie and his family were good, too. If we see him in the next game, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, there was a lot of potential to build on his family ties etc.

GTA London 1969 was a brilliant game. The humour was spot on.

1961 was shite but it was a free mission pack rather than a properly developed game

That would honestly be fucking awesome! I'd prefer 1984, simply because it was my favourite year for music and they could incorporate more of those songs into the radio that way. But if they did late 70s and it was all disco music and rock and such, I'd hardly be able to complain.

Can't believe there are people actually thinking this could be out this year. It'll be ages away. My guess is November 2012.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

I don't think it will be this year. But I could easily see May or April 2012.

For two reasons.

1. They've had the best part of three years to develop this. It should take them much less time than it did with IV considering they aren't starting from scratch.

2. The last time they announced a GTA it was months (I think 8) before we saw a trailer. This time it will be 8 days. That seems to indicate they are much further along than they were on IV at time of announcement.

and 3. (I know I said two reasons) I really want it to be.

Easter/Summer next year would be earliest I think. I think GTA4 came out in April/May a few years back, although I think it overran by a couple of months? I can't remember how long before that it was announced.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-10-25-grand-theft-auto-5-set-in-los-angeles-report

Grand Theft Auto 5 takes place in a version of Los Angeles, according to a Kotaku report.
Citing "a source familiar with the game", it claims the franchise will return to California for the first time since GTA: San Andreas back in 2004. Its moles also claim that the game will feature more than one playable character.
We'll know more when Rockstar unveils the game's debut trailer on 2nd November.

I think they'll release it next summer, between May-September. I know they haven't done that with GTA before but February/March is too soon, they won't wait a year I don't think. Even if they did, I can't see them going head to head with Call of Duty, no matter how big it is sales will be damaged by going head to head with it and they won't do that. They normally realease when nothing else big is, so that rules out October time for Fifa.
