Any way of bringing back to life a hedge?

Try using a weed and feed on the grass, Evergreen is very good. Another possible problem is you're cutting it too short and its scorched.

It is possible the part that is bear is shaded and out of natural light?

I've just started growing a few things this year, some of them are looking good, though I'm a bit unsure of when to start transplanting things like the lettuce and cucumbers into the garden with canes, also the rosemary plant seems to be having issues, any help would be great.

Salad bowl Lettuce, Tomatoes seads we bought from gran canaria, Rosemary, Alicante tomatoes, sweet basil, cucumbers.

Transplant the tomato plants from the pots and plant them into grow bags at about 18 inches apart. When they are about 8 inches tall gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions and plant out 18 inches apart with about 30 inches between the rows in a warm sheltered sunny spot in moist, fertile well drained soil and keep well watered.

Cucumbers look here mate,

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/easygardening/cucumber/cucumber.html

The basil same as the Rosmary, the lettuce just move to bigger pots mate.

Hope this helps.

Haha yeah the Garden's good, tho the neighbours are a bit shabby, one's a fat manc who's sky cable is just asking to be cut next tuesday night (or is that a bit harsh)

Yeah finding it really relaxing (it's good to get away from reading the take over threads and 4pools posts lol)

No this is our first year doing it (we've even got gardiners world on series link and ordered some free dig in seads)

We're thinking of doing potatoes and carrots at some point (Ideally for xmas lunch) but not not sure when to start them so they'll be ready in time.

Amateur problem - planted some carrots and some lettuce seeds in two different bags. One has loads that have sprouted and no signs of anything in the other bag. I don't have a clue which bag holds which seeds ;D

If you're having trouble with slugs lay some salt near their path or pour over them (& snails) then watch them suffer.

My present mission is to destroy the moss in my back garden. I understand those that think it provides an all year round green look and lessons the need to mow, but I just hate it. The usual granules can burn the grass and leave patches and soapy water seems not to work. Extensive raking is not an option as the garden is 100 foot long and an electric scarifyer is also not an option coz I'm a mingebag.

Suggestions welcome.

Ok Moss comes with water so if you have bad drainage this could be a problem but if not palnt some water loving plants that will drink it all up. Another thing is a weed and feed (i Know your garden is large) this really helps kill the moss and feed the grass.

Alcohol again for the slugs.

Ta Sarge, its a weird garden. There's patches that used to dry up really quick once it got warm as if the water drained easy and the sun zapped the grass and made it like a desert in a few places. I did some drilling to air it (which will be well filled now) and repaired the grass, watered it like fuck over a full year and now its OK. The moss appears every winter irrespective how I treat it and this year its prevalent. I'm getting on top of it despite my can't be arsed quip.

I was thinking about that, I was helping weed at this Monastery one day. It was all about getting rid of the weeds, but I was thinking they have a right to exist as well. The weeds would have been doing something beneficial to the eco-system.

A weed is any plant growing where it isn't wanted. For example, there are many weeds in other countries that we class as desirable plants here.

An interesting thread. It's nice that so many people are into gardening. We got the back garden landscaped,  and then I went on the waiting list for an allotment. After 3 years I finally got a plot.
It was overgrown, but with lots of work, and no chemicals or sprays, I got a bumper crop of potatoes, red onions, spinach, lettuce, mint, rocket, leeks and beetroot.
Only problem was that there was so much that I didn't know what to  do with it all, so I gave lots away. This year I've amassed lots of recipes for soups, churneys, etc, so, in theory I should be better prepared.
I've never had any luck with chillis:(
