Get a kinetic one. Saves all the sodding about with batteries. Last watch I bought was from Argos, but I have stopped wearing a watch. It's far more relaxing just to be late.

I love watches. Could spend all day in watch shops.

Recommendations depend on what style you like and how much you have to spend. I like Breitlings but could never afford one.

You can get some nice chronograph-style watches by Sekonda or Citizen in Argos for between £50 and £150

What's the limit, then? Obviously you don't want to overspend, but to someone £50's a lot, to others it might be £100 or more. An idea of price might help with some recommendations.

ideally around the £100 mark but max £300 (tis only a watch after all :P)

I bought my brother a broken watch for £5, and had it repaired for £40 for his 18th. No idea how much its properly worth, but it certainly looks more than £45.

I really liked the look of it, no idea what model but its brand was Avia. If I had it with me I would take a photo, but he is wearing it.

Its mechanical, so he has to wind it. Does anyone have any tips on making sure it doesn't break again.

If it's mechanical it might have been overwound, so tell him to make sure not to do that. I think you can take them to be checked out regularly by a good watchmaker to make sure everything is ok.

I got mine for £25 from M&M a few years ago, best watch I've had and still works fine :)

I have £250 to spend on a watch.

Someone find me a watch, although I might be able to stretch higher if I can get it from a Tax Haven, which I can.

Think the Tag Heuer Carrera is the nicest watch I've seen but they're more than £1500. Don't think I'll ever be flush enough to spend that much on a watch but if I ever win the lottery going to get me one of these bad boys, prefer a leather strap myself but the metal also looks fantastic.

Until then this Accurist one will do, they have some nice watches for around the £100 mark. It's not a great photo, looks better up close but you can see where they get their design ideas from  ;)
