The reds March on to Glory
« on: May 31, 2023, 12:47:24 pm »
Was thinking about the Europa final  in Dublin and I started to think of the link between Ireland and Liverpool. It made me think about all the controversy about the anthem etc and I thought I would write a Scouse sort of rebel song for us reds.

The tune to this is Oro se do bheatha bhaile which is a very old traditional Irish song. It was originally about Bonnie Prince Charley but was later adapted to be about Grace O’Malley.  Lots of version on the internet including one from Sinead O’Connor which is quite reggae influenced. It was the marching song in the film the wind that shakes the barley.

The reds March on to Glory

We are the famous sons of Shankly
One true king and his name is Kenny
Jurgen, Rafa, Fagan, Paisley
They marched us on to glory

Oh no we will not be beaten
Oh no you will not defeat us
Oh no we will not be mastered
The reds March on to Glory

Our captains are the bravest of men,
Jordan, Thompson,Souness, Emlyn
Stevie G oh Steven Gerrard
They marched us on to Glory

Oh no we will not be beaten
Oh no you will not defeat us
Oh no we will not be mastered
The reds March on to glory

We won’t back down and we are not frightened
We fought for truth exposed your lies,
The Liverbird flies free and high as
We March onwards to glory

Oh no we will not be beaten …
