I'd rather have Enrique, Robinson and Fabio Aurelio than Insua, Dossena and Konchesky.

What a bizarre and pointless comparison.

For starters, Aurelio and Robinson were both at the club when Insua was. And Dossena and Konchesky were never at the club at the same time.
You may as well argue that we were right to sell Arbeloa because Josemi and Kromkamp were rubbish.

What's Aurelio doing in the list? And why are Dossena and Konchesky in the same list?

coz its to prove an argument, of course!

He is a good player, but no way better than Enrique. I'd rather have Enrique, Robinson and Fabio Aurelio than Insua, Dossena and Konchesky. Insua moved forward, so did the LFC.

Aurelio is medically challenged ... I rate the fella, borderline love him ...Class player...  Gutted with his medical issues but he makes Lesley King look indestructible.... There was a reason rafa let him go.... What value is having a back up player who inevitably needs a back up cause he's injured or recovering....

Anyway how does a thread which I would term a little insua remembrance thread turn into I still wouldn't have insua in our squad ... To the extent injured players are a better option than a functioning insua ...

It was ridiculous what happened in summer 2010 with him and he probably wasted a year in Turkey with the wrong loan move (should have gone to an English club to see how he did if he was going anywhere).

Kenny did the get the chance to look at him in pre-season, but mustn't have fancied him. I think the potential of Jack Robinson might have swayed the decision to move him on.

No, well, and yes respectively.

Don't think he was ever that bad a player though, just over-played in an underperforming defensive unit at the time.

Enrique, Insua and Robinson would have been a decent set of options, but that train has sailed.
I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Wait what? If we own majority of his rights, does that mean he's out on loan to Sporting?  ???

Not a loan in the classic sense of the word. When we've sent Insua there, he's had 12 months left on his LFC contract, but Sporting were not in position to pay any fee due to their financial troubles. It was agreed for LFC to keep 50% of Insua's rights, and for Sporting to pay us the other 50% at a later date. Their debt was settled when we have signed Joao Carlos in January. Since Sporting were still struggling financially, they have sold a certain percentage of the rights of several of their players, including Insua, to some sports management companies, under the names of "Sporting Portugal Fund" and "Quality Sports Investments". You can see some of the transactions here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sporting_Portugal_Fund
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_Sports_Investments

In mu humble opinion, these are some sort of money laundering vehicles.

It's a pretty accurate response though.

Lucas is our best midfielder, it's been obvious to see what he brings since he's been injured, we've missed him enormously.

I don't see how any of that is disputable.

Ok... Do you still agree getting rid of him and replacing him with konchesky still makes it the right decision? Or maybe insua was so poor we as a club would rather have an empty space at lb than insua? I can understand wanting to get better, what I can't understand is getting a far worse player on all levels replacing a player who wasn't apparently good enough.... And people still saying that outcome as a positive....Is this a definition of insanity?

I don't think it was worth keeping him as a second choice LB when we already have Aurelio and Robinson. I don't know why people have to bring Konchesky into it.

Because Aurelio wasn't fit enough to be offered a new contract, & Konchesky was clearly Insua's replacement (or would you have just had Robinson playing the majority of the season on his own?)

The point is aurelio is injured ... He's kind of a luxury player a side wishes it could afford to keep.... He cannot be relied on however as sad as that is ..... As we have seen over the last 3 years...

The only reason konchesky came into the equation is that insua was sold, and konchesky was bought... He was insuas replacement...

So because our other midfielders aren't currently performing, it means our best midfielder, someone who plays regularly for the Brazil national team, who's played at an outstanding level for us for a very long time now, "isn't all that?"

He doesn't think a full back who liked getting forward & putting in crosses would have been any use to us this season(considering our back up for Enrique has basically been our RB, Insua may have given him some competition).

With Lucas
P12 W6 D4 L2 Pts22
Extrapolated to 30 games, that's 55 points, level with Tottenham (4th).

Without Lucas
P18 W5 D5 L8 Pts20
Extrapolated to 30 games, that's 33 points, 1 point behind Aston Villa (15th).

Assuming our current goal difference, our form with Lucas would put us 5th, level with Tottenham, while our form without Lucas would put us 15th, 7 points above the relegation places. Oh, and those 12 games with Lucas includes 5 games against the top 5, a majority of them away, while the 18 games without Lucas only includes 4 games against the top 5, with half of them away, so the minitables above are actually disproportionately kinder on our form without Lucas. We still have an away game against a top 5 team to come, and our form against the top 5 is abysmal without Lucas (P4 W0 D1 L3).

Insua has also been playing LW on occasion this season, sometimes outshining the specialist (Spanish international) winger on the other flank.
