There is a precedent...

She began on the left of the political spectrum, writing for The Guardian and New Statesman. During the 1990s, she came to identify with ideas more associated with the right and currently writes for The Times, The Jerusalem Post, and The Jewish Chronicle, covering political and social issues from a social conservative perspective. Phillips, quoting Irving Kristol, defines herself as a liberal who has "been mugged by reality"

There are many traits about Jones that remind me of her, such as a fondness for the sound of their own voice, an assertiveness of their own correctness of argument but with an inability to handle criticism gracefully, all combined with a constant desire to be relevant and even provocative within the populist mileu of the Political zietgiest.

Yep. I find it simply amazing that she is being defended by the usual suspects.

If she was a Tory, she'd be getting ripped to pieces, and rightly, it's awful behaviour from anyone in such a position of public trust.

... I don’t think these people realise what damage they’re doing to Labour.

It would seem to have little effect on the faithful, as here...

Hopefully Kate Osamor will be back on the front bench at some point.

I imagine if she carries on behaving in public office the way she has, it will more likely she'll be seen in front of a bench, rather than sitting on one.

I don't do polite so fuck yoursalf with your stupid accusations...

Right you fuckwit I will show you why you are talking out of your fat arse...

Its just a report they commissioned and it came with lots of different ideals doesn't mean it will be poilcy.

The Tories have commissioned a report on how to end the train chaos maybe one of the many ideals it comes back with might be to renationalise the railways dosn't mean thats what they will do.

The report was written by Prem Sikka who is contributing editor for Left Foot Forward.

The stupid thing is there are important issues to be dealt with and some of them are raised in the report. The published headline proposals do fuck all to address the structural problems with British Industry.

A mayor has apologised after underestimating his administration's running costs by £6.75m.

James Palmer, Conservative, pledged to keep costs to £850,000 a year when running for the new office of Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough in 2017.

It has emerged the cost of the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority will be £7.6m this year.

At a meeting of the combined authority's overview and scrutiny committee, Mr Palmer said: "I can only apologise.

"I think, realistically, we were never going to be able to function on £850,000 a year."

Your bang on about employing family members. I don't pay much attention to Tories but I find it disheartening when Labour MPs seem to think politics is like a small family business when it comes to employing their children, and is it just me or does it seem to be just sons that benefit, Kinnock, Corbyn, McDonnell, Osamor.

And I get Isamor writing to a court to help her son out. However if I had used my position at the time to do the same and then lied to my employers about doing so I would not only have lost my job and professional respect I would not have worked in the same field again. But politicians gave different rules than voters so we'll see hey.

Baroness Osamor joins the House of Lords

Quote
Baroness Osamor has been introduced to the House of Lords, just down the corridor from where her daughter is an MP.

The former Labour councillor was nominated for the peerage by Jeremy Corbyn, and is now Baroness Osamor, of Tottenham in the London Borough of Haringey and of Asaba in the Republic of Nigeria.

Edmonton MP Kate Osamor stepped down from the Labour front bench last week to support her family. She had been reported to Parliament's standards watchdog after continuing to employ her son following his conviction for having £2,500-worth of drugs at a festival.

This seems consistent with several other policy areas where evidence was ignored as politicians attempted to boost their own personal standing within the Conservative party. With disastrous consequences for those on the receiving end.

Quote
Home Office officials were aware of immigration problems facing the Windrush generation four years ago but failed to act, a report says.

The department had credible information about the potential adverse impact on such migrants of Theresa May’s policy to create a “hostile environment” for illegal immigrants, the National Audit Office (NAO) said.

Ministers from the Caribbean had also raised some Windrush cases with the government in April 2016 but it was not clear whether the Home Office was aware of them, according to the report.

The NAO concluded that processes in the department contributed to the risk of wrongful detentions and removals. Sir Amyas Morse, head of the NAO, said: “The treatment of people who had a legitimate right to remain in the UK raises grave questions about how the Home Office discharged its duty of care towards people made vulnerable because of a lack of documentation.

“It failed to protect their rights to live, work and access services in the UK, and many have suffered distress and material loss as a result.” Amber Rudd resigned as home secretary in April as a result of the controversy.

Commonwealth citizens who arrived before 1973 were automatically granted indefinite leave to remain but many were not issued with documents confirming their status.

There was an outcry when it emerged that legal Windrush migrants had been denied access to services, lost their jobs, had been held in detention or removed from the UK.

The NAO report said the Home Office “did not act on credible information about issues that may have contributed to the Windrush situation”. It said that a 2014 report by the Legal Action Group charity had raised the potential adverse impact of immigration policy on certain groups, including Jamaicans who arrived before 1973.

The NAO said: “There were warning signs from enough different sources over a long enough period to collectively indicate a potential problem that merited further investigation.”

A recommendation in 2016 to “cleanse” a database of individuals wrongly flagged as being in the UK illegally was ignored, the watchdog added. An official review of 11,800 cases of Caribbean Commonwealth individuals identified 164 people who were removed or detained and might have been resident in the UK before 1973.

The department has apologised to 18 people in whose cases it is most likely to have acted wrongfully. But the NAO said there were no plans to review about 160,000 files relating to non-Caribbean Commonwealth citizens because this would be “disproportionate”. The report added: “In the circumstances, we find this surprising.”

Meg Hillier, chairwoman of the Commons public accounts committee, said: “It is shocking that the Home Office is not proactively reviewing other Commonwealth nationals’ cases.”

Sajid Javid, the home secretary, has apologised to those affected. A Home Office spokesman said: “Our task force has helped over 2,400 people of any nationality prove their status in the UK.” Applications under the Windrush scheme were accepted from those of any nationality who arrived in Britain before the end of 1988 and were settled here, the spokesman added.

The Times

If May were still Home Secretary it's hard to imagine how she could still be within the cabinet. She either knew and didn't care, or wasn't in command of her brief and was incompetent.
"And the voices of the standing Kop still whispering in the wind will salute the wee Scots redman and he will still walk on.

As this country bangs on about Brexit, Oxbridge continues to ignire vast swathes of younger people in this country.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/m.huffingtonpost.co.uk/amp/entry/sutton-trust-oxbridge_uk_5c0990a6e4b0b6cdaf5d52ad/

Elite Schools Send More Students To Oxbridge Than 2,900 Schools Combined

Sutton Trust study reveals the dominance of eight top schools and colleges.

A new analysis of UCAS data published by the Sutton Trust shows eight top schools and colleges sent as many pupils to Oxford or Cambridge over three years as three-quarters of all schools and colleges.

It found that the elite institutions with the highest number of Oxbridge acceptances had 1,310 between them.

By contrast, around 2,900 schools and colleges with two or fewer acceptances sent just 1,220 pupils to either university in the same time period.

The report also found that pupils from independent schools are more than twice as likely to attend a Russell Group university than their peers at comprehensives. The gap is even greater at Oxbridge where they are seven times as likely.

Students from independent schools who apply to Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities are also more likely to win a place than applicants from comprehensive schools.

The analysis of university acceptance rates for 2015-2017 also reveals more than a third (34%) of applications to Oxbridge come from pupils at independent schools, but a larger proportion (42%) of places go to those students.

However, while 32% of applications to Oxbridge are from comprehensively educated students, only 25% of those who gain a place are from these schools.

The analysis also finds big regional differences in the proportion of teenagers who gain a place at Oxbridge.

Several parts of the country had two or fewer acceptances to Oxbridge from comprehensive schools, including Halton, Knowsley, Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, Portsmouth, Rochdale, Rutland, Salford, Southampton and Thurrock.

The Sutton Trust, which runs summer schools to give Year 12 students from less-privileged backgrounds the opportunity to experience life at university,  is calling for universities to make greater use of data to recognise the different circumstances faced by applicants.

It also wants all pupils to receive a guaranteed level of careers advice from professional advisers and calls for university access agreements to focus on marginalised geographical areas that are underrepresented.

Sir Peter Lampl, founder of the Sutton Trust and chairman of the Education Endowment Foundation, said: “If we are to ensure that all young people, regardless of their background, have a fair chance of getting in to our top universities, we need to address the patchwork of higher education guidance and support.

“All young people, regardless of what area they grow up in, or what school they go to, should have access to high quality personal guidance that allows them to make the best informed choices about their future.

“The admissions process also needs to change. We have made the case for giving poorer students a break through contextual admissions, but we also need universities to make it clear what grades these students need to access courses.”

As this country bangs on about Brexit, Oxbridge continues to ignire vast swathes of younger people in this country.

By the time kids get to school it’s already too late.

However, the issue here isn’t quality of education.  It’s an inherent bias in the system.

Oh look its the devil himself, more than likely removing goods

Boggles the mind that anybody (least of all a Tory MP) would use charitable food donations as a photo op.

Caroline Lucas trolling Davis to his face was fun. Angela Rayner saying can't ask people same question again while demanding a general election not so much.

David Davies has had a free ride tonight. He's only been challenged twice so far, once by Nicky Morgan and once by the bloke in the audience with the pink shirt. On both occasions he shook his head is disagreement while he took notes - notes which I thought he'd use to enlighten us with about his remarkable insight on Brexit. It didn't happen, he's hardly said a fucking peep considering he should be the most informed about the whole subject.
He's a fucking gobshite.

:)   Corbyns compromising many MPs. I thought Labour said they would start supporting another referendum if there was a big shift in public opinion. only have to watch QT to see public opinion has shifted massively towards another referendum. some of the audience really getting pissed off with Corbyns attitude now.
It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.
