Had a fiver on Chosen Mate @ 6/1 which saved me from a totally disastrous day, but still a bad day overall.

The second last race of all 4 days has been a good one nearly every day for me.

Conclusion

1:30: Asterion Forlonge 0.8 points win, 0.2 points win Abacadabras
2:10: Notebook 0.8 point win, 0.2 point win Cash Back
3:30: Epatante (NAP) 1 point win
5:30: Carefully Selected 1 point win

Double: 1 point Epatante & Carefully Selected (pays 10.5 on betfair at the moment).

That's 5 points staked. Not too bad. Hopefully I can have a few winners to go into day 2 with.

LOSS -1
LOSS -1
WIN 2/1
LOSS -1

Conclusion

2:10 Minella Indo (NAP), 1 point win

4:10 Easyland 1 point win

That's my only bets for day 2. Good luck !

LOSS -1
WIN 3/1

A juicy 65/1.

I'm not going to bet a single on Faugheen so if he loses I don't take a double hit. That would be foolish.

However I will back Min and Colreevy near the off.

I will also back Penhill in the place market.  I've got half my stake on NOW and the rest near the off. 3.5 is a nice price :)

Well that's me done.  Good luck everyone and God bless Willie Mullins!

LOSS (treble) -1
WON 2/1
LOSS (place bet) -1
LOSS -1

Really fancy Al Bourn Photo as well.  Mullins says it has a great chance and there is good money for it this morning now into 3/1 on betfair.

Mullins:

'Al Boum Photo (Paul) has a lot going for him here and we are hoping he can land this prestigious race for the second time.'

My only bet today ...

WON: 10/3

Got there in the end. Not a bad profit especially since I got better prices on Betfair.

I'll post some selections tomorrow as I intend to reinvest some of the profits.  Look out for them!

That 11/4-5/2 we could get about Goshen will be the last time for a very long time. He’d got that field smashed to bits, he’d have won by 20 lengths if he’d stood up. One of the most talented horses we’ve seen for a long time.

I have done a short priced double: 13:40 Fontwell. Trainer Gary Moore was unlucky yesterday in the Triumph Hurdle and today it looks like he's going to have a winner in the shape of Hit The Rocks.  Moore is the top trainer at this track so well worth an interest.

The second horse in my short priced double is the 15:30 at Navan (IRE). Willie Mullins is in great form and it looks like he is going to take this race with a short priced favourite. Paul Townend booked so we know they mean business here.

The double pays 3.6 on Betfair.

My only other bet today is in the 15:10 @ Newcastle.

Really like the look of Thor De Cerisy for Michael Scudamore and Brendan Powell. They have a decent strike rate at the course and the horse is in good form. Also there has been good money for it this morning and is currently available at 3/1 on Betfair. (I have put half my stake on now).

Good luck today!

Well not the week I was hoping for, retirement plans on hold for another year!

Still there was some great races and cracking finishes this week (usually with the horse I backed coming off worse!)

Some of the standouts (feel free to add your own highlights)

Ride of the week - Barry Gerraghty, Champ. I believe it was as high as 700/1 in running and I’m surprised it wasn’t higher. Was reminiscent of McCoy the way he coaxed and rousted him home. Must say BG gave a few decent rides last week.

Finish of the week - A few contenders for this. The RSA certainly a contender for this but the Albert Bartlett had the front 4 in the market fighting it out over the final hurdle with a neck and a nose separating three of them at the line. Obviously I’d backed Latest Exhibition and Fury Road....

Performance of the week - The first horse to retain the Gold Cup since Best Mate is difficult to overlook but I was really impressed by Envoi Allen. Never a moments doubt, seemed to cruise through the race and came away without any trouble. Could question the strength of the opposition but it was won with ease. The most likely winner of next years Champion Hurdle.

Can't argue with much of this. Thought Al Boum Photo was game as you like and his jumping wasn't the best throughout and he still won. Would say Envoi Allen was definitely the performance of the week. Proper proper classy sort. Spent most of my week at the Parade Ring, Envoi is beautiful, second only to Samcro on the best looking horse of the week for me. But the two I'm taking moving forward are firstly The Big Getaway, he is HUGE. How he came third in a Ballymore I'll never know, proper Gold Cup horse in the making, cannot wait to see him over a fence. The second is Fiddlerontheroof, another proper Gold Cup type who will really improve for a fence.

There are no spectators and massively reduced stable staff. There will barely be a few hundred people spread across a vast space. No issues for me. Big chance to get new people into the sport too with the footy being cancelled!

16:20 Hereford

Really like the look of Jurys Out in this 2m5f chase. Venetia Williams is the top trainer at the course. Jockey is OK and it should go off favourite.

The horse unseated its rider last time out when going well so hopefully he's had a bit more schooling before being brought here.

Currently available @ 2.56 on Betfair. I've got half my stake on and will monitor the prices. If it drifts over 3.75 i won't have the rest of my stake on but I think its going to crash in price nearer the off because its such a obvious well handicapped horse in a poor race. He just needs to be able to get round.

That is my only bet today.

Good luck

Correction: it's a 2m5f chase not  3 miler.

I know plenty who do. I bet on the sport but also happily sit and watch a full days racing without a penny on if I haven't found a bet. It's actually such a great sport beyond the betting element, the trainers, jockeys, horses themselves. I think racing needs a Netflix type documentary to highlight the intricacies of it, its a properly fascinating global sport.

I also don't know any lads who don't bet on footy. Footy betting completely dwarfs horse betting every weekend. It's only the major festivals that can compete. I know racing and betting are intrinsically linked, however I think football betting is pretty much the norm for most lads once they hit the age of 18 which would be more concerning to me than betting on racing.

I think it's internet betting that's created it. It's just too easy and everyone has a proper opinion on the footy. I think the coupon culture is dangers and Skybet being so intrinsically linked with Soccer Saturday is dangerous too. There's no thought to it just a get rich quick attitude trying to land muggy multiples. I think if racing could engage and help people learn how to read form it would be a big help, great feeling cracking

They weren't told to call it off so why should they? It's peoples choice to go as The Jockey Club aren't health experts. The can only follow advice. My point earlier was that racing going ahead this week is a good thing and there won't be spectators so no issues moving forward.

Not surprising. As Lee Mottershead said yesterday even if you have absolute skeleton attendance you're looking at 160 people associated with the 40 horses. This will hit horse racing hard, bookies rely enormously on it and a lot of the levy has just gone the pan I'd say.
