Got my ticket for the Friday at Portrush this morning. Pity its a year away but it'll be fantastic for Northern Ireland to hold an event of that size.

Would love to fly in for Portrush. However I bet all the hotels etc are booked already in a 100sq mile radius. Looks a fabulous place. But the whole of Ireland is magical. This includes both :)

where? preferably rooms that arent charging 1000s

i was leaving a hospital as one of my cousins was born the day before and we went to see them.

we listened to some of it on the radio and got back to a house to watch the rest, when we got back to the house he was in the water with his shoes and socks off.

reaction the whole time "what is he doing?"

Harrington won at Carnoustie in 2007, Garcia lipped out to win it

As for hotels for Portrush 2019, have a look at The Lodge hotel or Premier Inn..  both in Coleraine.  But both are very near the 'park and ride' venue. The roads will be closed approaching Portrush to traffic, but they bus the spectators to the course each day. Both those hotels are right beside the bus park, 10 minutes to Portrush.

might be worth a look alright

though most places dont allow a booking more than a year in advance. most are going to charge 1000s but im sure one or two will slip through the net

i have some offers of accomodation but trying to find a place for the wife and kid to come up.

Will be a glorious return to one of the island of Ireland's great courses for the greatest tournament in golf. Carnoustie ain't bad either btw.

Well only a few days away. This is one of my favourite weekends of the sporting calendar, tinged with disappointment that we won`t have the usual full BBC coverage and will be subjected to thousands of betting and golf adverts.

The weather forecast doesn`t look too bad but there will be a steady breeze. Many of us will remember how murderously difficult this course is if the wind blows. In my view it will really favour those golfers who have plenty of links experience. It should be an exciting test of golf and I cannot wait.

Lack of rain is going to make this year really interesting. No outlandish rough and balls rolling 100yards on the fairway.

Lots of old school 1 irons used and make 400yards off the tee with an iron a possibility

Love this course, brutal if the wind blows, no idea who will win. Would love a Brit to win, maybe Fleetwood, but have no idea.

No one waste their money on Rory. Watch that bite me in the arse

I have had a dabble on Rose, Fowler & Fleetwood at similar odds and also a cheeky one on Stenson at 30-1. I think he has the temperament and iron game for a course like this. I do think it will be wide open though and we could get a real surprise as the winner. All seem to be paying out on 10 places so was worth having a few bets.

I saw a lovely story towards the end of northwest tonight last week about a club pro called James Robinson (1500-1 by the way !) who had played for a few years on the challenger tour but wasn`t earning enough to sustain a living. Anyway, he has been working the last few years as a club pro and he decided to play in qualifying after only having played a few competitive rounds. Anyway, he qualified ! A great story and I hope the lad does well. He loves links golf but I just hope the occasion and reality doesn`t hit him too hard.Good luck to him.

I don't think Rory has the patience to plot his way round Carnoustie. He's also out on Thursday afternoon / Friday morning when the wind is supposed to be at its strongest. I've just had a look at the odds and I might be tempted to take the 7/2 on him missing the cut.

Sergio Garcia to put the disappointment of Carnoustie 2007 behind him.

Finally a Major winner, Sergio now has a massive monkey off his back.  It also helps being one of the best Links players in the world.

I've taken 28/1 with Betway who payout as a winner if your golfer leads the tournement after ANY round.

Watch for Brooks Keopka, has a Major and playing well enough to win.

Also for a long shot Michael Kim who just won the John Deere Classic, has been touted for sometime as going to be the next great youngster coming up.  Now that's he won a tournament, he's a decent dark hourse pick for The Open.

Great weekend of golf ahead as love the Open and god knows who will win it. Maybe its time for Fowler to win his major and cant see too far beyond the big guns like Johnson, Spieth and co.

Was at Carnoustie in 1999 a few months after the Open as we were given a tour of the hotel there and drove around the course. There was a camera crew out on the back nine and found out afterwards BBC (I think) were there shooting a documentary on Lawrie and he played the last four holes again for them to film. Was in the main clubhouse after when I saw Lawrie come in through the door and a man behind him was carrying the Claret Jug. Pretty much put the damn thing down in the table in front of me as he greeted a few members. Shook his hand and was about to touch the jug but said I better not. Regretted it from that day to now as closest I have ever been to anything like that.
