Just watched it again. That 2nd half defensive performance amazing. Most impressive thing in the whole game. I knew we could blitz them because I have seen us blitz many teas before.  However, to shut down one of the best attacks in Europe after giving them the ball for 45 minutes is something I have never seen from this team before.

Think it speaks volumes about the media that we've got more attention over a few thrown cans than the England fans did for their behaviour a few weeks back  ::)

Let's be clear - anyone throwing cans or bottles at the coaches are fucking dickheads and make the club look bad. No place for their antics at all, it's stupid, dangerous and they need to be called out on it. But the overreaction by some in the media and other fans is laughable.

City fans reaction to a small minority of biffs acting like c*nts seems to be that it's proof that both club and they city are full violent degenerates that can't control themselves - in stark comparison to their good-natured and well-behaved selves. No City fans would ever behave in such a way, right?

I'll just leave this here:

People are going to talk about Klopp, but I think that game has Buvac all over it. It was a very precise tactical game. Rafa-esque, almost.

Perfect first half! And a proper defensive performance in the second that Rafa would be proud of! Well done lads! And well done to Anfield for being the 12th man ! YNWA

With the bus welcome, I'd say they were up to the 19th man. Heroic stuff.

Close to a day later and the thing that stands out to me was the performances of Milner and Henderson, which is saying something based on how well everyone played. I vividly remember the absolute hell they got during the tail-end of the Rodgers regime when we first tried the Milner-Henderson center midfield combo.

The vast amount of criticism could be boiled down to three sentences: "The pair create the worst sort of headless chicken dynamic. All running with no real grit, no technique, no tactical positioning, no positive forward thinking of any quality. Who's genius idea was it to pair them in CM after Gerrard left?"

And here we are, making the all world team of Fernandinho, Gundogan, De Bruyne and Silva look like Rooney and Schneiderlin in there, all while helping shut down the threats of Sane and eventually Sterling on the wings, and being directly involved in 2 of the three goals in a massive CL Quarter Final. An absolute mind-boggling turn around especially consdering their age and injury history.

Finally a quick shout out to Gini, who I thought played excellent when coming off the bench for the last defensive half an hour. He should be rested for the derby as I think he will be vital for the 2nd leg, especially if Can can't play.

Great game yesterday.  What a feeling this is to be a witness to this kind of European night(s) at Anfield revival.

Two things for me to make clear:

1.  Liverpool are in a good way - but key similarity for both teams is their ability to overwhelm their opposition (irregardless of opponent)
**** Its not over by a long shot

2.  Let's stop talking about en masse issues like the bus or irrelevant issues that distract from the fact that we crocked those fuckers
--- the more they sit with that feeling, the more desperate they will become.

*********   Lets allow nature to take its course and talk about one of the historic moments where a Liverpool team in total rendered a Man City team impotent

and because the league doesn't have players like we do going forward, they aren't tested to the level that we test them at.

I think it’s equally to do with the cowards that manage in this league.  Klopp and Poch are the only ones willing to have a go at a quality team the rest cower.

Yeah, that always seems to be one of the issues with Galacticos-type teams. Winning is too easy for most of the season, until it is suddenly too hard.

The BBC coverage is driving me insane, to the point of registering a complaint. Looking forward also to Garth Crooks finding a way of bringing it up when one of our lads is in his team of the week and he gets another opportunity to stick a cheap shot at us. No doubt Danny Mills, Shearer and Murphy will want to get their tuppence worth in as well. Anything to distract from the fact we tore the Manc blueshite a new one eh?

This is why I was upset we drew City, I just thought it was the most boring draw possible. Who wants to be hearing that small time petty English shite in a CL quarter final. Was embarrassing for the occasion, hearing Gerrard songs from them before they shut up on ten minutes

Exactly!

The state of their forums saying the ground was like a cult last night. They just don't get it. They think they're some massive European power-house because they've won a few things over the past few years.
What exactly did they expect us to do? Just sit there silently for 90 minutes and bow down to the might of Pep, the Arabs and all their riches on and off the pitch? Letting them win 8-0 in the process. Same as in January in the PL game their players absolutely shit it in the noise and Atmosphere. They did exactly the same last night despite what they said in the post match interviews.

Couldn't agree more - all 4 of their back line looked close to incompetent every time they were attacked.
They're an elite team going forward but not much evidence their defence is close to that level

Their defence is not rubbish. There are no other English teams that can attack like we do. Our attack is an irresistible force. We took the game to them and walloped them. We need to be up for it in the 2nd leg as they will be hard to keep out........we'll need to score one or two.

What happened last night was pure poetry. So many people wanted to try to belittle the Anfield support and the effect it can have, driven by banter pages run by virgins who've never been to a game in their lives. All the talk of how Pep has played and managed in clasico's, Jesus was brought up in the favela's, they've seen far worse, as if Anfield can scare them. But it was obvious that the people who mattered realised what a difference it could make. Klopp knew, the players knew, just as importantly Guardiola and Man City knew it too. From the whining about the bus which finally lead to it being re-routed, to Sterling inexplicably being dropped, they were fucking shitting it last night and we were all vindicated. It will be forgotten by those banter pages and the soccer am generation by the semi finals but then that probably suits us.

It all reminded me of that headline in Marca in the build up to the visit of Madrid in 2009. Esto es Anfield...y que? Another team that fucked off home with their tails between their legs.

City sang in the first ten minutes "just like United, you live in the past." Well, last night I suppose we were living in the past, it was a throwback but not necessarily all the way back to Saint Etienne, or even Olympiakos and Chelsea. Dortmund was only a couple of years ago. Every time we play these big european fixtures we will live in the past and that's because we've got a fucking glorious past that we can use to our advantage in the present. Just like Juve used theirs to get past a younger, fitter and more fancied Tottenham side. Just like how a Real Madrid team struggling all season in the league rolled the other petrodollar club over with ease. It's called prestige and opposition fans want to discredit it as much as they can but last night was proof again of what prestige can help you achieve.

Of course, massive credit has to go to Jurgen and the players too. The fans didn't press City out of existence or smash one in the top corner from 25 yards out. But we were 1 nil up as soon as they began cry-arsing about the coach and they changed their shape to protect Sterling from the cauldron.

There is still a long way to go in this tie and it's too early to celebrate a place in the semi finals but there was a lot to celebrate last night. I've got a mate who hates Liverpool and even he said to me this morning that once the game was on he couldn't help but enjoy the passion and witnessing a genuine footballing institution tear apart a plastic, oil rich nothing club. Just another in a long list of special nights at Anfield, now we've got the small matter of a merseyside derby to look forward to before grounding ourselves and getting ready to do it again next week.
