hi nerds, geeks, techies or gods (delete as appropriate)

i'm just waiting for my first iphone to be delivered today and i remember seeing a while back somewhere on RAWK that someone had posted a pic of an iphone screen with all the buttons changes to Liverpool theme ones. can this be done and if so how? do i have to jailbreak first?

also can anybody recommend any good apps for it, got a £15 voucher as a present ages ago which i've not used as i don't buy my music from itunes but figure i may as well use it here. clean ones are better due to the wife but i may try and hide the playboy one somewhere!

Yes you need to jailbreak, then you can do loads to it, it really improves the phone and makes it what it should have been in the first place

then you wont need to pay for apps either and can spend the itunes money on music, films, tv programmes or audiobooks

As for recommendations look in the itunes top 100's both free and paid, there are plenty of lists in the apps thread too

What is blackra1n, is it something to do with global warming?

You are way off. blackra1n is a 1989 American action-thriller film starring Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, Ken Takakura, Kate Capshaw and Yusaku Matsuda. The film was directed by Ridley Scott.

The story is centered on two New York City police officers who arrest a member of the Yakuza and must escort him back to Japan. Once there, he escapes, and the two police officers find themselves dragged deeper and deeper into the Japanese underworld. This film illustrates the stereotypes of American and Japanese cops and gangsters. The film was nominated for Oscars in Best Sound and Best Sound Effects Editing.

rumours about 4.0

● There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide.
● “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
● Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient.
● The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
● The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

Cheers for that Smiff, was about to ask if I'd be able to run the new OS on the 3GS.

I've just jumped on the iPhone bandwagon and am loving the phone, and all that it entails.

Decided against waiting for April/July on the basis that there is always something new around the corner and if I kept on waiting I'd never get anything!

At least being able to update to the new OS means it'll keep up with the standard! Hopefully it won't slow things down beyond the current OS. Although I trust Apple not to do what MS do and progressively bog down the hardware with ever more intrusive software.

i would think they'll have a new phoneout, it just won't be anything more than more memory and better camera so it's not worth bragging about

personally i think it will be about the OS4.0 and how it runs both the iphone and the islate and has some mad sharing capability between the two etc

they'll be wanting everyone to have both after all

Wifi syncing perhaps? If they insist on the syncing being only over 802.11n I'll be pissed off though.

Heard that the iSlate won't have a camera.

Tried my best both in store and over the phone but they wouldn't budge at all, kept offering me the blackberry and other phones.  I had a loyalty discount with my previous contract of £15 off my tariff every month but they would not renew it.  Really didn't want a 24 month!

it's a design fault, they'll replace it regardless of warranty for this reason, if they didn't it would end up with a class action suit against them
Would Apple still have to replace the phone if the screen is cracked and the handset has not been looked after very well?

Apparently I then need to hook it up to itunes and "unbrick" it. Anyone know how to do that?

If its just the glass screen thats shattered (the touch screen still works fine) then you can do one of 3 things

If its still in warrenty then You could try and talk your local apple store into doing a repair. Definatly the more expensive option if the store wont cover it under their warrenty. But it'll look brand new

If your pretty handy with a screwdriver and doing the fiddly stuff then you can pick up a replacement off ebay for £30

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Digitizer-iPhone-3G-LCD-Glass-Touch-Screen-Replacement_W0QQitemZ170435198721QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item27aebabf01

Cheaper. But it means you have to replace it yourself and thats a fiddly job and you really need to know what your doing

Or you can see if your local market has a phone shop and see if they can do it. That might cost you around £40-50 though but you get a quality job because if they mess up you dont pay.
