Does this need to be written to a CD?

Yes I got mine from Microsoft when I downloaded it off their site.

They put it on screen just before you download.
The key they give you when you download will apparently let you activate 3 installs according to the FAQ's

I just unpack the file and ran it from there.

I didn't burn it to DVD.

You could use Daemon Tools to set up a virtual DVD drive then just mount the iso image.

I guess it must copy all the files it needs before it reboots.

After a few niggly things that happen at first it seems to be all running smoothly now.

got this on dual boot on my pc now (I bust my spare pc :P ) and I'm liking it so far.  Only a minor issue in that it doesn't like my sound card, but I've also got onboard sound so can use that.  Running very well on a core 2 quad with 6gb ram (although obviously only recognises 4gb tops).

Will see how various things work on it now, but will keep using vista for the bulk of my usage, especially media streaming.

This fucking navigation pane in explorer needs some work. Its retarded the way they have it now. You double click to open a folder, but the navigation pane doesn't follow you to where you've clicked. Which considerably slows down the whole process of moving files.

Found my first problem with Windows 7, when working in Flash I have no problems with .fla files I create on this machine. But if i download .fla files or transfer them via Flash Drive I get a Docfile error.

Very frustrating Grrrrrrr

I have network issues still. Specifically very poor transfer speeds from a 500GB external drive plugged in via USB 2.0 on my server to the rest of my network.  My PS3 still plays streamed files perfectly but my other windows 7 machines lag so much movies are unwatchable.

Even opening the drive using windows explorer has a frustrating lag through the network.

For those wanting to know (or those that may not know?) - Windows 7 RC is now available to the general public. Some links;

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

New keys are available there too - although the beta keys do still work.

Have been running Windows 7 as my main OS on my laptop and PC since build 7077 - and I am just so impressed; no issues at all with installation, drivers etc.   No crashes at all, and application support is nearly spot on.

Re: Windows 7 - a themepack
« Reply #156 on: May 26, 2009, 05:03:26 pm »
Guys,

I thought I would share a themepack that I created recently, containing the best hires images from the 2008/09 pictures thread!  It took a while to do, but I have ended up with about 150 images which I have made into a themepack for use with Windows 7.  Obviously the themepack has been configured to my tastes, but once you install it you can play and configure.

Obviously big thanks has to go out to the regular image posters in the pictures 08/09 thread for their efforts in getting them there first.

The torrent also just contains a directory with the images if that is all you want.

Well, I hope you like - here is the link; http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1935961/?rel=1243351939

Someone should do the right thing - go back in time to 1992 and destroy the codes to Championship Manager before it is ever released

Am running a newer build than the RC presently; just gotta agree - ever since I started using it, I have never had a crash or anything.  Works really well!

I just installed it as a virtual machine.

Can't see any major differences that would justify spending on it.
