--- Quote ---Danny Murphy has been called into Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad as a replacement for injured Anfield colleague Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard has been forced to pull out of the squad for Wednesday's friendly with Italy after injuring his groin against Chelsea.

Murphy was left out of Eriksson's original squad but will now join up with his England colleagues on Monday to prepare for Wednesday night's clash at Elland Road.

Good luck to him! This is just an observation starting to form in my mind but does anybody else think he plays better when either Stevie or Didi are not in the team??

KFC:
I think he did play OK -- good on defensive end but then did not do a lot in the offense.  I actually thought that when Jari came on it is him who will make way instead of Anelka.

Maybe the Roma game took away too much from him?

Anyway good to hear that he is selected and hope he does well on Wednesday -- just don't pick up a 4-week-off injury :-)

I think he plays better when moved inside to the centre, rather than down the flanks.

dan17:
Why he wasn't there in the 1st place ahead of fat lampard i will never know. lets hope he takes his chance.

Barrettski:
Danny is a confidence player, so his call up (even as a replacement for Stevie G) could do Liverpool a world of good...

Get in there Danny.
