Impressed with that Larouci lad. Never heard of him before. How old is he?
18. Same age as Trent when he broke through. Bit about him from the Echo.

Thought it would be about Sepp, but it was the opening line that was intriguing. I'm guessing he was being asked if he's going to play in the first team?

"It depends. I open the door but the boys have to go through still."  was generally for the young players playing this pre-season rather than Sepp specifically.

He be throwing down the gauntlet to some youngsters, cos there really is chances for 2 or 3 of them to become first team squad players this season I suspect! Brewster obviously, but Hoever too maybe, and there is a left-back spot to be had if one of them is good enough to take his challenge.

I cant remember a better crop of youngsters starting a first pre season game EVER. Meantime, we are out there buying the best youngsters we can find.

Interesting that Larouci has been converted to left back since coming here, a sign perhaps that the club view him as a genuine option/back up there soon? Similar to Trent being told his quickest path the the first team was at right back.

It could be a really good battle between him and Lewis this pre-season, one of them is going to get the nod as Robertson's understudy. There's absolutely no point buying a run of the mill left back to sit on the bench, and we're not going to get one better than Robbo, so it makes total sense to promote from within for backup.

Same goes for Hoever on the other side. There's the opportunity for these lads to get 10-15 games when TAA and Robbo are rested, and I'd much rather give it to some talented youngsters if ready than buy players as back up who aren't up to it.

Would be hugely surprised if any of them got 10-15 games. They'll likely get the LC games. Maybe the FA cup. Both will depend on the draw and then how far we progress. They may potentially get any CL dead rubber. Maybe one or two against bottom of the league clubs at home in the league.

Primary FB cover will come from first team squad I think. Milner at LB, Gomez at RB. Even if those two couldn't cover I think you'd see first team players - Ox, Fab, Henderson - used for the vast majority of games.

I doubt we'll be putting any specialist left backs on the bench, youth or otherwise. There's a reason Klopp likes to use Gomez/Milner there, both are utility players that can cover a few positions in a pinch.

That makes sense then.

There are definitely more than one or two of the youngsters who are seriously knocking on that door. Exciting times!

Lazy armchair analysis:  huge value in Klopp and the club not signing any established stars this summer.  Everyone of the kids looks raring to go, pushing, and we're beginning to reap the rewards of all the youth teams playing as the seniors do.  Shock twist Klopp knows what he's doing.

Not sure about that. He'd learn more football, but he'd become more of a player playing against full professionals on a weekly basis.

I mean more about how Klopp wants the team to play.

Managed to get tickets in the Liverpool end. Cant wait as its rare that I can get to a game.

Judging by Klopps comments itll be the same team as against Tranmere...maybe with added Degsy.

I'd still give it a watch over all those, despite getting in to cricket more the last year or so. Unfortunately the GAA is on and Donegal are playing, so I will likely have to watch the highlights of this, as I done the last game. In saying that, Donegal V Meath throw in is at 2pm, so Ill be able to swap the games around at half time and full time.
