They are just saying hes cutting the budget of the environmental agency by 31%

Looks like massive cuts being announced.

Trump's 2018 budget proposal analysed, department-by-department. Worth a look at the article to see the detailed breakdown.

Reminds me of when Cecil fucked Rafa over on the transfer budget.  "We've not cut the transfer money, or lied to Rafa about how much he was getting.  We just streamlined the definition so it included wages as well."

GCHQ's made a formal statement, after being accused of being a surrogate for US intelligence to spy on Trump Tower:

Question I have is whether this is because Trump and co. genuinely, genuinely do not have a fucking clue what they're talking about other than half-heard pieces of reporting triggering their confirmation bias. Or they are throwing up a lot of shit because there are some really serious questions about just what their campaign was up to during the election. The two things aren't mutually exclusive, of course, but this is some far out shit if the problem is just a couple of random associates of the Trump campaign having some dubious links back to agents of the Russian state.

Trump heard it in the New York Times and Briebart. He admitted that.

Problem is that those stories are not what he's claiming they are. Spicer stood there for an age reading shit out which was either very much not the same thing as what Trump tweeted or was from the shallowest end of the gene pool's conspiracy theory purveyors of preference. It could just be all about Trump's absolute ignorance and faulty intellectual faculties, which was the first option I suggested.

In Mike Flynn news

Quote
Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was paid by several Russian companies before becoming an adviser to Donald Trump, according to new documents obtained and published by the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, including $11,250 by Russia's top cybersecurity firm, Kaspersky, in 2015. Flynn was also paid $11,250 by the Russian charter cargo airline Volga-Dnepr Airlines, according to the documents.

Flynn was paid for his work with both companies while he still had top-secret level security clearance, a year after he was fired as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Wall Street Journal's Shane Harris reported.

Flynn was forced to resign as national security adviser in early February for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his phone calls with the Russian ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak. He was also paid $33,750 to speak at gala celebrating the 10th anniversary of Russia's state-sponsored news agency, RT, in December 2015, the documents showed.

The Oversight Committee received the documents earlier this month, after top Democratic lawmakers called on the Defense Department to investigate whether Flynn ran afoul of the US Constitution by being paid to speak at the RT gala.

Flynn told The Washington Post that he had been paid to speak at the gala, but had not previously disclosed his work for either Kaspersky or Volga-Dnepr Airlines.

"I cannot recall any time in our nation’s history when the President selected as his National Security Advisor someone who violated the Constitution by accepting tens of thousands of dollars from an agent of a global adversary that attacked our democracy," Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the ranking Democratic member of the committee, wrote in a letter to Trump on Thursday.

He added: "I also cannot recall a time when the President and his top advisers seemed so disinterested in the truth about that individual’s work on behalf of foreign nations—whether due to willful ignorance or knowing indifference."

Failing NYT opinion piece on Jesus and Paul Ryan is brilliant

https://nyti.ms/2nuAhRk

Quote
Jesus turned to the 10 lepers. “Rise and go,” he told them. “Your faith has made you well.” Then he turned back to Pious Paul, saying, “Let me tell you the story of the good Samaritan.

“A man was attacked by robbers who stripped him of clothes, beat him and left him half dead. A minister passed down this same road, and when he saw the injured man, he crossed to the other side and hurried on. So did a rich man who claimed to serve God. But then a despised Samaritan came by and took pity on the injured man. He bandaged his wounds and put the man on his own donkey and paid an innkeeper to nurse him to health. So which of these three should we follow?”

“Those who had mercy on him,” Pious Paul said promptly.

Jesus nodded. “So go ——”

“I mean the first two,” Pious Paul interjected. “For the Samaritan’s work is unsustainable and sends the wrong message. It teaches travelers to take dangerous roads, knowing that others will rescue them from self-destructive behaviors. This Samaritan also seems to think it right to redistribute money from those who are successful and give it to losers. That’s socialism! Meanwhile, if the rich man keeps his money, he can invest it and create jobs. So it’s an act of mercy for the rich man to hurry on and ignore the robbery victim.”

Both. An ex friend of mine was a schoolteacher, middle of the road leaning slightly left politically. He inherited a huge swathe of prime development land worth ~ $200M, spent a few years developing it and is now worth about $400M. Suddenly all low income households are slackers and should work harder, anyone at the bottom doesn't deserve to be given free schooling and healthcare, they should educate themselves and get a better job etc, he's now a typical rich right wing c*nt.
We were at a barbie and he was educating a group of people whom he didn't know about how if they worked hard they could have a ferrari just like his, I said take no notice of him, you don't need to work hard, you just need to inherit $200M, he hasn't spoken to me since. Fuckin gobshite.

Sorry but that's typical conspiracy post-hoc rationalisation. Work from the evidence not a neat and tidy narrative that provides one controller of all events. This is a massive shit show and it's safe to say that based on all the evidence we have, that no one is 'in charge of' or 'behind' this.

The democrats don't want to impeach him. They want to run against his record in the midterms in 2018 (1/3 of Senators, all of Congress, Governorships and State legislatures...) and later in 2020.

If they impeach him, they'd have to run against that slimey VP, who is charting out his own presidential run if Trump decides not to run in 2020 (by embracing Trump yet contradicting him...on the record for future use). They'd also fire up Trump's supporters that see a conspiracy behind every corner.

So they'd be more than happy to see him struggle to put forward coherent policy and grope for personal popularity.

What is the deal with Lawrence O'Donnell? He seems to hate Trump more than anyone. Did the Orange One run over his dog or something like that? It's not that I don't enjoy someone making it pretty obvious that he hates the president, I just find it a bit odd that there seems to be that much hate...

NYPD Says President Trump's Budget Cuts Leave New York Vulnerable to Terror

The NYPD said Thursday that President Donald Trump’s enormous slate of proposed budget cuts would take away “critical” funding the department uses to fight terrorism in New York.

The cuts could impact everything from active-shooter training to intelligence analysis to bomb squad equipment, police said at a briefing with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday.

“Under the president’s proposal, nearly all federal funding to the NYPD would be eradicated,” James P. O’Neill, the New York City police commissioner, said during the briefing. “This funding is absolutely critical. It is the backbone of our entire counter-terrorism apparatus.”

As the nation’s largest city, New York has long been a target for terror attacks. Law enforcement officers have also had to work to protect First Lady Melania Trump and her son Barron, who still live at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

The Trump administration has defended its budget cuts as getting rid of unnecessary programs to accomplish his campaign promises. But O’Neill says the proposed changes would make the president’s home town less safe.

“It is the cornerstone of effective preparedness and prevention against terrorist threats, and enables us to do all we can do to keep this city secure,” O’Neill said. “Everyone who lives in, works in, and visits New York City — this money’s critical to keeping everybody safe.”

O'Neill said the proposed federal budget would cost the NYPD about $110 million, which it receives annually through the Homeland Security Grant Program, according to the Washington Post.

He added that New York City continues to be a top terror target, and said: “Simply put, we cannot afford to cut corners in fighting terrorism.”

They wouldn't be so crass as to be doing surveillance on Trump Tower though (and would they even need to?!). Trump and his supporters are shifting the discussion. What has been reliably reported was that several allied intelligence agencies across Europe picked up odd shit involving Russia, Trump's campaign, and criminal activity. This was passed on to the US agencies and then triggered further investigation as the Americans tried to piece together what had happened. This is obviously going to involve information picked up in surveillance (whether broad and routine or specifically targeted on people already of interest to Western intelligence agencies) but Trump Tower itself was not the target of any surveillance - nor would Obama have been involved in any way. Still not sure whether this is Trump flinging poop because that is what Trump does or whether it's preparing his defence for much more significant allegations (even if only of willful negligence in vetting his campaign) to come.

They should have announced that they only taped the calls to the Russians.
