With Italy failing to qualify for the World Cup I would caution people to be awfully hesitant in regarding them as easier ties than the more glamorous names in the bowl. Their national pride has been dented, I'm positive their teams will be out to restore some of that pride in European club competition. They are wounded animals. We do need to keep a weather-eye on them.
The problem we will encounter is our lack of experience. Teams like Porto, although beatable on paper, have a terrific resource of experience to draw upon. We don't have such experience at this level. Let's keep expectations moderate and, rejoice, in deeming this campaign a success regardless of outcome, we've picked up valuable experience at the elite level and we will surely be a formidable opponent in the coming years.
