If we bombed out players after a single poor season, Firmino would have been nowhere near the first team.

Firmino never had a poor season. Poor first few months maybe, but that's it.

Firmino was only poor for a couple of months, had a bigger reputation and was 29million. Don't get me wrong I thought Aspas did alright in his first few games for us as a foil for Sturridge but I think beyond Celta Vigo he's a bit of a nomad and he's definitely worse than Sturridge, Origi and Ings.

Sometimes a move just doesn't work out and there's no point overanalysing it, I think this is one of those occasions. It was a good move for all parties; we got rid of an unwanted player, Aspas returned to an environment he's more familiar with and Celta got themselves a good deal.

Where was this player?

Unfortunately for him, he didn't get much of a chance. He had two better players in front of him for one and didn't (and to be fair to him may be couldn't in the limited time he got) to force his way ahead of them. Rodgers didn't look like he fancied him either. A shame it didn't work out. It'd be nice if people could over him taking a bad corner though.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

Rodgers just didn't know how to use Aspas properly (the same way rodgers screwed up firmino). I am glad he is doing well for his club and country. He seems to be the 2nd choice striker for spain (deputizing for costa).

As with Luis Alberto. We signed good players that summer but sometimes they just don't fit what you are doing at that time. Similar to Forlan, who proved to be awesome, as soon as he left England.

It is funny that he would have been a decent successor to Suarez and would have saved us from signing Mario. But, life...

One goal behind Griezmann in la liga goals as well. 16 goals 5 assists in 28 games. I think we just gave up on him too early. He would have been very useful the following seasons.

You mean the Firmino he only had 8 league games with? :lmao

Aspas couldn't handle the league, physically, positionally, or in terms of speed. It happens. Morientes was the same, as was DiMaria and Falcao. All three better players than Aspas. It happens. Rodgers' issue in transfers is that he needs players to excel in 1v1 and physical play at the same time. It's a tough combination to find without paying for it. So if Aspas was a Rodgers choice, then it was never going to work. If he was a transfer committee choice, then it was still never going to work, because it still wouldn't have fit Rodgers' needs.

He's a decent player, but he's hardly a world beater. 12 open play goals in 28 games. It's a good record. But if we were to move back to England, it would probably be halved, or worse.

It is funny that he would have been a decent successor to Suarez and would have saved us from signing Mario. But, life...

He was quite unlucky in that we had Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling all playing well and us challenging for the league so he was never going to get much of a look in that season and unless he was absolutely extraordinary in his limited appearances and that was never going to happen. Seems to be a joke figure for some for some reason but he's proved to be a good player before and after his time here and could go to the World Cup this summer. Scored a great goal against England too.

To be fair he didn't play that many games to prove whether or not he could. I think he'd do alright for a side like Newcastle
