It is interesting. Had the first leg been at the Emirates and we'd managed to heroically keep it 0-0 despite having a player sent off and having our backs against the wall for most of the game I'd imagine virtually everyone on here would expect us to go back to Anfield and win.
But it's the other way round and they're just unable to use that energy in a positive way at all. Quality is a big part of it of course. Mentality too. But maybe something else? I'm not entirely sure how to put it. Motivation? "Game intelligence?"
I might be totally wrong with this, but I wonder if they were just a little complacent too?
Coming to Anfield for a second leg terrifies most clubs. As it transpired, the legs ended up getting switched and they got an unexpected draw up here. Maybe they then believed the fates were on their side and they'd see us off in front of their own fans?
On the other hand, we had been slagged off by all and sundry because of the first leg postponement. We had all sorts of people casting aspersions our way. We drew the Anfield leg we were expected to win, so our backs were up against the wall a bit, and that's how we like it.
I think they possibly thought last night would have been easier for them and that they'd already done the hard bit after holding us with ten men at Anfield.
