Are we away first leg and home second leg in the playoff round? or does it depend on the draw?

Depends on the draw. We'll not know until August 4th

I haven't watched a Champions League game since our game with Basel. And the same before that season with Fiorentina in 2009.

The Champions League without Liverpool is like going to a concert, only to watch the backing singers.

So glad our presence makes this competition a big deal again.

Unless there has been a rule change I can't find, then it is drawn on the same day as the play off draw. Last season, 3 of the seeded teams were drawn at home first. Ajax, Villareal, and Porto

So let me get this right,

If but for a different set of results in Russia/Germany not only would we have been unseeded but we would have had to play 2 extra games to qualify?

If so, Sweet.

Also can someone explain what the second set of numbers in the seeded coefficients in the OP are? My guess was initially highest coeff rating attained in the past but that can't be right as surely we would have been higher than Sevilla?? Is it maybe one o the other England possible entries  (ie Arsenal/Man City)

No, the amount of preliminary matches would've been the same, just one round, but being seeded we should be able to avoid the more difficult ties, on paper at least.

The unseeded teams are a bit of a mixed bag but none that should have us seriously worried. If we can't beat any of those over 2 legs then we wouldn't last long in the actual competition.

I back us to do the business in the qualifiers.

Cheers, It's just there are 5 seeded teams and 10 unseeded. I assumed the unseeded played each other first and the winners then played the seeded. Now I'm even more confused :o

A reminder we cannot face Celtic in the qualifiers as they have their own League Champions qualification playoffs

How does this work?  I'm sure they enter in the second round. So they play a bunch of champions from more obscure leagues to qualify in both second and third round?

This is all very confusing  ;D

The non-champions from lesser nations have an extra stage before us, Spain, Germany, Italy etc

How does this work?  I'm sure they enter in the second round. So they play a bunch of champions from more obscure leagues to qualify in both second and third round?

This is all very confusing  ;D

Champions from lesser nations are separate to the non-champions from bigger nations and lesser nations. Platini introduced this in order to get more Champions in the Champions League group stage.

I think it's one of the better things he did - it is the Champions League after all, as nice as it is for ourselves to have four guaranteed group stage spots from next season.

Looks like someone's put a lot of effort into updating the Wikipedia page on this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017–18_UEFA_Champions_League

Is it correct that if Ajax don't win tomorrow night then they're in the previous qualifying round and only become a seed if they get through it?

That was pretty normal in the communist countries. The Army would get several thousand tickets for some interesting game, and the best solders would get those tickets as a reward. I watched Red Star Belgrade - AC Milan back in the autumn of 1988 that way.

You would say that ;)

Also the 2 legs will be around the time we have 3-4 league games under our belt.

Draw a good team or not,we'll be firing on all cylinders by then playing a heavy metal football tempo with the intense high pressing game included, the unseeded teams will be praying not to draw us. ;D

Nothing to worry about here.

Very fortunate not to be able to draw Sevilla. Not only are they devastating at times  :butt and also just imagine a 20:45 local time kick off still under the sun coming from a 40C day in Seville. The place is scary hot during summer and it's not at all impossible that it could be 37C at kick off. It was around 34C underneath the night sky when they kicked off the 2013-14 season at 11 pm (!) local time  :o

Whoever it is from the unseeded pool there can be no excuses not to win. Sporting would be the one I'd fancy the least to meet though. Portuguese sides are bloody difficult at home.

Most likely unseeded. The next unseeded club to move to seeded after us would be Roma (if they finish third), then Brugge, then Lisbon.

If I'm not mistaken, their only chance would be if Ajax win tomorrow and Dynamo Kiev lose in the previous preliminary round.

Are Lisbon seeded or unseeded?

The short answer is very very likely to be unseeded.  They are currently the 4th best seeded team in the final round ( worse than Liverpool, Sevilla, Napoli/Roma better than Hoffenheim). They can only be passed by one more team and they are like 5 teams that could pass them. If Ajax wins the EL they would get a boost because that would give Nice a bye to the final round and it would be one less team that can pass them. They will still need 3 out of the 4 unseeded teams to win in the 3rd round though. Its not looking good for them.

We cant play Ajax, if they advance to the final qualfying round they are locked to be seeded. The only teams we are sure we are not playing are Sevilla, Napoli/Roma, Dynamo Kiev and Ajax. We could play anybody else.

EDIT: With regards to the EL seeding in the group stage, we should be seeded for that if we end up there. However if we end up on the EL via the 3rd place in our CL group it depends on our point tally compared to the other third teams.
