If he is to play there, he is going to have to reinvent his game, on our time.

Maureen didn't use him because he felt he was too slow and not strong enough for La Liga, sending him here is to fix that. On out time, while we pay him. we see time and time again that players need a season to adjust, we are taking the pain, maureen is laughing his hole off at us, get deal for him.

Got any quotes from Maureen regarding the bolded part?

I don't really give a shit about fees or terms. We have a quality player in a season where we need to get back into the Champions League- good enough for me.

For a man of such repute, I've never seen him in action. Hope he lives up to the high expectations many have of him.

Those 5M are the wages as far as I understand. Don't shoot me though.

Seen on Twitter (yeah, I know) that there is a £5 million loan fee as well

5m isn't really very much money for a player of Sahin's quality for a year.  We'll pay Joe Cole and Jamie Carragher more than that except they will struggle to impact the first team.

That's of course if we really are paying 70% of his wages and if he really does earn £115k per week.  I'd be a bit surprised if the latter wasn't exaggerated.  Google list his salary as 4m euros per year.

United have just signed a 29 year old who has barely played a full season without injury who will cost them £66m including wages.  Football players are expensive.

arsenal didn't take him because they are in a better position than us. they don't need him as badly, we did so we paid more. They also wanted the option to buy, we didn't care as much because we need a short term solution whilst our long term solutions develop, such as shelvey and henderson.
How do players develop without proper game time? For years we hope players will suddenly just get better. They have to play, learn their bloody trade. I can live with a season of mistakes from shelvey and henderson, others can't. They are the guys who refused to allow Insua and Lucas their learning time.

Anyway, I'm leaving this one go, we can return to it in a few months time.

Right, so mugs Liverpool will do as they told, and babysit Sahin for maureen.

Go on then .... who would you have bought (and paid every week) for £5M that could be adequate cover for Lucas ?

this. he costs what a top player costs, even if it is for a season, and he improves our ability to counter attack 10 fold.

Not so. Why didn't Arsenal take him eh?

4 short years ago we were twatting Madrid, now we are just a fucking crèche for maureen.

Arsenal didn't take him because they wouldn't spend Christmas.
They'll probably be having an open-top bus celebration today for the money they've saved.

Wenger's been after him for years, them not getting him is another bonus for us.
Maybe you'd rather see him run rings around us for them, when we play them?

fuckin hell so people are now complaining because we paid 5million for him? would you rather we signed a shit player for 5million and paid his 2.5million wages a year and probably subsidised  the remaining three years of his contract like mugs because he was crap? Some people are never happy. If he helps us get in the CL, he will be worth all the money we paid for him. we need quality players and if it means we only get them for a season, than so be it. im fed up of average players on long deals just cause we need to file a hole in the team and we cant afford to throw big money at it.

I hope he will be a big success. Good luck Nuri  :wave

Fuck off moaners. If Sahin is the difference between us scraping into the CL positions(which he very well could be) then any loan fee will be irrelevant. Some of you lot will want to have a moan no matter what, its fucking pathetic. If he ended up at Arsenal ye'd be all bitching that we didn't go the extra yard to get him. Still need a good finisher to lead the line IMO but this is a fantastic signing.

Jaffod, I know you are cynical as they come and usually I'm in almost complete agreement with you mate but I think we've done well on this one.  I'm not going overboard yet but I'm happy we got this player.  We'll never know but its a good move on the whole and contrary to what Fordy has insisted without the slightest hint of evidence, we are going to pay 70% of his wages for a year.  Not a bad deal I would think.

I mean, how dare brendan rodgers try and improve the team in his image by adding a quality loan signing who will cost us less this year than carragher or cole and about the same as andy carroll. Who the fuck does he think he is, the manager or something charged with rebuilding a mid-table squad to challenge for top four on the same budget as sunderland?

I for one am outraged.

5 million, 6 million, 7 million, 8 million............

Why do people care about it so much when Brendan and club have no problems with it? People complain when we don't sign world-class players and now that we have...... it's not a good deal because we paid too much? If he helps us get into top four, 5 million is nothing. Even if we don't get top 4, the deal can't be as bad as ANY of our deals last years when we wasted much more. Henderson, Jonjo, Suso and all our young midfielders will surely benefit a lot working with players like Sahin week in week out as well. This is a very good signing in my opinion and I thank club for all the hard work they put into this. Kudos to FSG, Ayre, Brendan and everyone at the club involved in this.  :scarf

The upside of this transfer is Arsenal don't get him, the downside is we lose him in a year. If Sahin becomes integrel to our style of play then losing him is going to hurt unless he is replaced by someone of equal or better quality (Alonso, hopefully).

I do hope his injury problems are behind him, he'll have to be sharp to play in this league. No doubting the man has talent, great players should and can adapt so let us hope that he is one of them. Five million is a bit excessive for a loan fee but I can tell you that will be quickly forgotten if he comes here and shows us he's the player we all hope he is and if he does that, we need to show him where his future lies.

Who gives a toss about the cost?  Some of us spunk 000's each season watching the team, so let FSG fork out a bit.  It's only wages cost anyway - I'd have thought after offloading Maxi,Aquilini and Kuyt FSG will be well in the black wages wise even with this outlay.

You'd think it was coming directly out of some posters pockets reading some of the crap in different threads about 'wages' etc.

Is he the answer to our probs?  No, not on his own.  But maybe another piece in the jigsaw

On his own, yes it does seem like madness but he was the best player in a team that was built up on a shoestring budget compared to Bayern and they stormed the league.  There is quite a bit to be excited by this lad.  He is by all accounts one of the most talented midfielders going around.  Whether he'll translate that here remains to be seen but I'm happy with this bit of business.  And like everything else on the internet, it becomes easier when you treat hyperbole like what it is !

Like jooney, I nearly always agree with your posts jaffod but you've just said yourself that you don't have a clue about him, yet before this you just posted:

It's because we're LFC mate, pay top dollar and get peanuts in return.

Why don't you wait until the end of the season before seeing if you still feel we're only getting peanuts? The guy is absoloutely top class and as over the top and dramatic the ''won the Bundesliga on his own'' comment is, he was comfortably the best player in the league that year and the standout performer in a fantastic Dortmund side. If he is the difference between us pushing on into the CL places then he'll be more than worth what is ironically essentially peanuts in comparison to qualifying for the European Cup.
