I'm gonna start this myself tomorrow :)

Arsenal to beat Wigan and Man Utd to beat West Ham in tomorrows carling cup at 1.2/1 sound like a good start? Or you think West Hams win coupled with the fact Utd will play kids means its a booby trap?

Probably jumped in a little too quick. After 20 minutes I was thinking happy days. Ah well. Mess wincast?Ive a winning betslip here and im contemplating whether to go to the bookies and just throw it on messi. However the snow is putting me off and Im tempted to just enjoy the game tonight without anything on it.

Isn't the point of the thread for people to research a bet and post there findings, supporting why a bet is value at evens?

Is anyone really interested in people's bets without explanation?

To be honest mate no.

The thread is here to report on progress made on gambling a tenner up to a grand.  Or im my case gambling it up to 40 or 80 quid then blowing the lot on Arsenal and Martin Kaymer etc but it seemed the right thing to do at the time.

Bets like backing Federer to win in straight sets doesnt really need much explanation.

Pedro and Barca advance me to Stage 3.  I'm off to the NHL tonight for this bet.

£43.33 on the Dallas Stars to win away at the Carolina Hurricanes.  59/50 - Money line bet so OverTime counts.

Stars with a 5-5-1 away record and currently on a 3 win streak.  Carolina dont look much kop at home.

Sure some USA/Canadian reds will come in here and ask me "what the fuck are you doing tard?"

My answer will be "I don't know"  ;D

NHL - £82 on Tampa to beat Toronto (incl Overtime) at 20/21

Taken me to £160. I had to draw £80. couldnt bear to lose the lot again.

Using the remaining £80 tonight and from any winnings I am going for it big tomorrow. If it loses so be it.

Bet 1: United -1.5 @ 2.1         Returns £21.00

Bet 2: Juventus @ 2.2          Returns £46.20

A win or out situation for Juve who have Man City at home in their final group game whilst Lech Poznan travel to bottom club Salzburg.

The problem with Juve's season so far has been too many draws, but they know in this game it won't be enough. They have had a very impressive defense so far this season only losing twice, the last over two months ago and sitting 3rd in Serie A with recent away wins aganist Genoa and AC Milan.
Lech Poznan have been on and off all season only sitting 10/16 in the Polish league.
Risky bet possibly,  :D

Quite a few possibilities for Arsenal v Fulham today.

Fulham have only scored once in their last 5 meetings with Arsenal and never beaten them away from home in 24 attempts.
Arsenal have beaten Fulham by two or more goals 3 out of the last 5 times they've played them at home.

Arsenal -1.5  @ 21/20
Arsenal win to nil  @ 11/10
Arsenal clean sheet  @ evens.

Bet 1: Arsenal -1.5          returns £21

Bet 1 - £10 on Mario Gomez AGS at Evens.

Bet 2 - £20 on Arsenal/Real Madrid at 1.86.

Fulham gash away from home and no strikers, Nasri/Chamakh in great form.

Madrid/Mourinho want to fight back after their 5-0 humiliation. Valencia only taken a point from trips to Barcelona, Villarreal and Sevilla. Can't turn down 2/5 for Real. Hinged on Ronaldo playing, from reports I think he is.

Bet 1 Fiorentina @ evens

Cagliari have a new manager in Donadoni and beaten Brecia and Lecce in his two first league but these two sides are in the bottom 3 of Serie A whilst in the middle of these games they lost to Bologna in the Copia Italia 3-0.
They also have a dreadful record in Florence with Fiorentina winning the last 15 meetings in Serie A.

Bet 3 - £37.20 on Arsenal/Liverpool at 11/10.

Think Arsenal are value at 1/3 given the talent in their squad. Beat Stoke 4-1 and 2-0 in their two previous meetings at the Emirates, and since the Potters have been promoted they've lost 8 out of 9 at the old 'big 4' (the exception being their 0-0 draw at Anfield).

As for us at 4/7, again think it's value even though it's Roy. He's won his last 4 home league games with relative ease against similar cannon fodder as Fulham, given their lack of firepower without Zamora and Dembele. Haven't conceded in 3 at home and Fulham have only managed 3 goals in their last 6.

Someone convince me otherwise?

Depertivo at home to a shite Gijon side is a the same odds. Depertivo have been impressive lately, and especially decent at home. Gijon are notoriously shite on the road. 1-5-15 is there last 21 away games in La Liga. Also Villareal at home to mallorca.

Time to get involved with this I think.

Due to doing quite well recently, I'm going to take this as an opportunity to try something new.

Instead of backing things based on my opinion (what do I know?!) or impulse, I'm going to have a go based strictly on statistics. I've knocked up a little spreadsheet for deciding what games to back overs in. It's nothing groundbreaking, just takes the stats from the last 5 respective home/away games for each team in terms of goals scored/conceded to give an average number of goals in recent games. I'll be backing over 1.5 goals, so I'll look to get involved with games where the sides have averaged over 2.5 goals per game as extra 'security'.

Once that criteria is satisfied, I'll look at the number of the last 5 games from each side that have had over 1.5 goals and turn this into two percentages, which, when added together and divided by 2, give an average percentage. This is converted to a decimal price which is what the price 'should be'. Obviously, the figures aren't 'true' because I'm only looking at the last 5 games, but I feel they're more relevant - strikers in form, injuries, defence having trouble etc - so that'll do. This will then be compared to the real price and only those that are bigger than the price they 'should be' will be included.

It won't be much fun to watch, but hopefully me writing about it on here will give me some discipline so you can put up with it. With the reasoning behind the bets being entirely statistical, all I'll put up are the stats, not an explanation as such.

Anyway, enough of the shite. I'll look to get bets put on as quickly as possible, 1 a day would be great (an extra £52k a year would be nice, eh? ;)) but where it isn't possible I'll span bets over a few days.

Here's to me winning a grand!

Wed 19th Jan 2011 - Bet 1 - £10

17:45 - Dutch Eredivisie - Twente v Heracles - Av. Goals 3.8, 100% over 1.5 goals, projected price 1.01 (it's actually 1.00, but I'll refer to that as 1.01 as it's the smallest price that can be found), actual price 1.1. WON
