Hertha Berlin team bus shot at in Germany

Hertha Berlin's team bus has been shot at on the eve of a German Cup match.

The Bundesliga club say  the bus was fired at by a motorcyclist in Bielefeld in north-west Germany but added that no-one was injured.

Hertha are staying near Bielefeld before their first-round tie with German second division side Arminia Bielefeld on Monday night.

Only the driver was on board at the time of the shooting and police are now investigating.

The vehicle was travelling from the team hotel to pick the players up from Bielefeld Central Station.

Hertha say the motorcyclist had overtaken the bus and threatened the driver "with his fist", before turning and pointing a gun at the bus and the driver.

Pictures from the club show the windscreen of the bus with a bullet hole.

Hertha chief executive Michael Preetz said: "We are deeply shocked and hope that the perpetrators will be caught. Luckily our bus driver got off with a fright."

Arminia Bielefeld tweeted:  "We are shocked by the attack on the team bus from HerthaBSC."

That's horrible.

If this happened in England you'd have a Thatcherite response to it from Cameron and everyone would say football is the devil.

If this happened in America they'd call it international terrorism and find the guy and shoot him dead on sight and say they thought he had a gun in his hand.

Bundesliga returns this evening with Bayern against HSV. The latter was knocked out of the Pokal by Carl-Zeiss Jena last week and have been thrashed in this fixture in recent years

7.30pm. Hard to see this ending up in anything other than a rugby score. Dortmund v Gladbach tomorrow should be closer.

Conceded 31 in their last 5 visits! Last 3 have been 9-2, 3-1 and 8-0, don't fancy a Hamburg win in this one.

What a pass on the free kick by Alonso. Bayern lead.
Still majestic, Alonso. How I miss him for Liverpool.
Hats off to Bill on his throne,
He set the club's standards in stone.

Is the Liverpool norm,

I watched the freaking Ligue 1 game instead of Bayern's cause I knew what was coming. Worst league purely in terms of who's coming first.

The state of Hamburg the last years. Oh man.
Messi in fact doesn't have a recognizable trait.

I seem to remember hearing last year that they're upto their eyeballs in debt. Some expensive and awful signings haven't helped, Van Der Vaart springs to mind.

There's people on here who don't rate Aubameyang. Strange individuals.
"I was pleased also with Peter Crouch. We have been talking to him, before and after his nose operation, to show more confidence with his heading.

"Now it seems to have worked. Lets say that if he has a few games without scoring again, maybe we should arrange to break his nose again."

Dortmund showing mid-season form in game one. Hard to believe they can be sharper than this. Impressive.

I don't think Mochengladbach played that badly. Just wasn't their day.

Dortmund's performance was superb. One game and all but it was like a training match where they use half the pitch. Amazing really, Gladbach barely went past the mid of the pitch in the 1st half. Hummels with some key passes from the back, players excellently placed between Gladbach's lines. Good stuff.
Messi in fact doesn't have a recognizable trait.

Will be interesting to see if any of them can keep up with Bayern or not.

He's definitely kicked on over the summer. His stats may have been impressive last season but his overall play wasn't always so great. Dortmund fans were commenting in pre-season on how much his touch, decision making and positioning had improved, and he's carried that on into the league. It's great to see. Mkhitaryan also looks transformed under Tuchel.

I seem to remember hearing last year that they're upto their eyeballs in debt. Some expensive and awful signings haven't helped, Van Der Vaart springs to mind.

They denied that there is huge debt and I think their problem is that they've had the wrong people making the decisions in recent years and they're signing the wrong players. I'm not that clued up on what's going on in detail, but I just have the feeling that every now and again they're changing the people in the boardroom or even their manager, but they always replace them with guys who are just as bad or even worse. At the moment, Hamburger Morgenpost and other news-outlets are going with a story about Emir Spahic (a player they've just signed in the summer after Leverkusen cancelled his contract because he was fighting with stewards) behaving like a complete twat in the dressing room. The initial story is that he told Lewis Holtby to shut up or he'll punch him in the face after Holtby fired them up during half-time against Bayern. There are also stories that he was involved in a dispute during pre-season and that he told Holtby and two other players "Get out of my way, you pussys". For a club that's successful none of those stories would be a big deal in my view. For Hamburg it's a disaster as they've just gotten rid of Behrami who apparantly was seen as a disrupting influence in the dressing room. At least, according to one guy from Hamburg I know.

Add to that, that only a week or so ago, there was a story that their sporting director had a backpack full of internal documents that went missing. Apparantly it was stolen and some lady found it lying around in a park. The stuff that was in there included documents with player-contract-details.

http://www.goal.com/de/news/827/bundesliga/2014/01/09/4532336/schuldenberg-beim-hamburger-sv-eine-gro%C3%9Fe-gefahr That's where my thoughts about the debt came from.

I remember reading about Emir Spahic, to say he's a headcase would be an understatement, apparently he started fighting with stewards because his friends weren't allowed in the dressing room after a cup defeat to Bayern. So it wouldn't surprise me if he has said those things in the dressing room. They've changed their head coach 12 times since 2010 and that's obviously way too many to build anything lasting.
