2019 in Music

Time for the best thread on RAWK.

Another year almost over - it's been a blast musically (and also on the pitch  :)).

Some big releases out in January / February - Steve Gunn, Cass McCombs, Deerhunter, Lambchop and Julia Jacklin.

I'm looking forward to the new albums by Scottish band, The Twilight Sad, and Icelandic band, Vok.
Also hoping God is an Astronaut put something new out too.

Good to see this up and running.

As mentioned last month, I'm starting the year with upcoming records by Sharon van Etten (Remind Me Tomorrow, 18th January) and Julia Jacklin (Crushing, 22nd February) on my radar - also keeping an eye out for any news from Conor Oberst.

Julia Jacklin releases her second LP, Crushing, in February (a follow up to 2016's fantastic Don't Let the Kids Win) - a couple of tracks have been released to promote this...

Conor Oberst has also returned to the studio, following the 2016/17 'double' of stripped-back Ruminations and Salutations

Like Jacklin, Sharon Van Etten also has a new record out early next year - Remind Me Tomorrow sounds like a significant departure from the sound of 2014's Are We There

Gigs wise, I'm seeing the two above during successive Fridays at the event of March (both in Manchester) and I've tickets for a pair of Manics gigs at the end of May.

Visitors from the 90s Thread will likely already know that Sleeper have an album due out on March 22nd too...

Ryan Adams looking set for a triple-release 2019 (he released a trio of double-album Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights, and 29 back in 2005), with Big Colours and Wednesdays apparently revealed during the last 24 hours.  One to follow!

That is right man.

Willy Vlautin was the driving force behind them and writes a lot of the songs for The Delines.

Amy Boone is the lead singer and has a beautiful voice - she was involved in a car crash in 2016 that delayed the writing / recording of this.

Picked it up from Probe this afternoon, along with The Twilight Sad's It Won/t Be Like This All The Time - ended up in the pub after work but I'm looking forward to giving both of these some headphones time over the weekend.

The Twilight Sad have never really previously been on my radar (literally until this morning) - saw a recommendation I was happy to place my faith in and, based on this record's three singles that I've just listened to via YouTube, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

New Deerhunter is just ridiculous. Fading Frontier was good but I think this is levels above.

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.
