--- Quote ---Liverpool have been dealt a double injury blow after Steven Gerrard and John Arne Riise picked up knocks in the dramatic 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Gerrard limped off midway through the first half with a recurrence of a groin injury and is expected to be sidelined for up to two weeks. That means he will miss England's friendly with Italy as well as Liverpool's Champions League quarter final with Bayer Leverkusen.

Riise has already had an x-ray on a foot injury he picked up during the match and the Reds will discover how long he is likely to be out of action tomorrow.

Assistant boss Phil Thompson said: "Unfortunately the downside of today was the two injuries.

"Stevie felt his groin and couldn't continue and John Arne Riise has had x-rays on a foot injury after the game. Both will have to get further scans and Stevie is out of the England game midweek.

"Stevie is a quick healer so we'll know more in the next 48 hours. It will probably be 10 days to two weeks out for Stevie but hopefully sooner. We'll wait and see."

John Arne Riise could be fit for Saturday's crcial home clash against Charlton after x-ray results of a scan on his foot came back with no problems.

Riise completed the full 90 minutes against Chelsea but he was in considerable pain after the game having taken a knock on his foot but the results from the Anfield medical team are better than first expected.

"John Arne Riise had an X-ray and he's okay," claimed Phil Thompson today. "We hope he'll be fit for Saturday."

This is good news as we don't have much cover at the back with certain players injured or coming back from injuries. He is a half decent player also. ;D
