It's ok, but there are plenty of other watches I'd rather have for the money. IWC make some very highly regarded watches, but I'm yet to see one I would fall for.

Considered a Panerai Marina?

https://chronexttime.imgix.net/C/5/C58830/C58830_5950b3360c08f.jpg?w=800&auto=format&fm=jpg&q=75&usm=30&usmrad=1&h=800&fit=clamp

Each to their own I suppose
Much prefer the IWC

However for 4K it would be a Navitimer for me, or maybe a classic datejust
Breitling have just released a stunning special edition only available in their boutiques

Love this watch

I'm with you to be honest, although that particular Breitling is a bit "footballer" for my taste. Think classic. I like the look of the Panerais, but if I had four grand to spend and I didn't have a Navitimer 806, Speedmaster moon watch or a Submariner, I'd be splashing the cash in that direction. Datejusts and Air Kings fall into the same category - there will always be a market for them and they are never going to go in and out of fashion. I think that's important when spending a lot of money.

Footballer, I don't see it. Just love the look and colour. And, that's a fine collection you have there, very fine. Pretty much all the watches anyone would be lucky to have in a collection.

Me, if I had the funds and I didn't have to drop over 100k on colleges for the kids, pretty much what I'd pick, maybe switch the sub for a deep sea and add the IWC navy pilot watch. All understated and instant classics.  If funds were not an issue then I'd have a patek aquanaut

Me, my Navitimer and tag will have to do at them moment :)

But sir, congrats on your collection, excellent choices

Ta, I like it. Ruled most Rolex's as being too large/blingy, but like the size & style of this one a lot. Still have an old Seamaster Cosmic like this one:

Can't bring myself to sell it yet, but we'll see how much it comes back out of the box in the next few months.

I've got your entry level Tag Heuer 2000 nearly 20 years ago on the condition that I would only ever need one watch for the rest of my life. It's got some nice nicks and scratches from saving me in a quad bike accident so will always have a special place on my wrist considering it saved it from being carved off.

If I was ever to replace it there would be only one choice and that would be a Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch 1969 from the year I was born.

And all the world is football shaped, It's just for me to kick in space. And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

For a Rolex that doesn't look too bad. If you're not going to wear it leave in box and get a valuation.

Rolex's especially Submariners and Sea Dwellers, where designed for professional divers rather than as a fashion accessory, as a tool of their trade so they are not that expensive.
These watches last for decades rather years and once professionally serviced are as good as new, they are beautifully engineered timepieces.  :)

Thanks. I live in Luton, there's no way I'm walking around with something on my wrist i could buy a car with!

Incidentally, does anyone know how you change the time on vintage pocket watches? There's a key to wind it on the back but nothing else, and the hands are too thin to be moved manually.

How much are you looking at spending on the TAG watch? If you give us a price perhaps we could recommend something else? My personal view is that I would only go for a vintage Heuer piece and wouldn't touch anything modern TAG branded.

I'd be willing to pay up to £800 I think. I have always liked the sport look but I actually agree that something smarter would be better.

My wrists are quite thin so would be looking for something below or around 40mm

If you don't mind my asking, how many kids is that? And is that a normal cost to put kids through college? Would make our tuition fees look laughable!

Sadly they wouldn't. Average university debt in this country is now around £44,000 per person, the highest in the English speaking world.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-36150276

It's a massive problem. I remember how sick my £7000 debt made me feel when I graduated in 2000. I feel so bad for these poor kids these days.

I may end up sending my kids back home to LSE, oxford or Cambridge

TCU or SMU where my daughter wants to go is $60k a year without any kind of scholarship. My youngest, he doesn't give a shit, so community college.

I think my daughter will get some scholarships, but I'm still looking at $150k for 4 years

In hindsight was that £7k well spent? £44k is staggering. You could buy ask the watches you ever want for that sort of money!

I wear a Kirium CL5110, they can be picked up for around £600, nothing fancy but I like it. Its about 15 years old and does me. I was going to get a Rolex Submariner as a treat to myself last year, but once i tried one on I didn't like size.
