I remember how much we were all raving about his performance at Arsenal at LB very, very early in his Liverpool career.

He looked like a superstar in the making, it was just beautiful watching him completely fulfill his potential by becoming one of the best CBs around - and if he's not recognized at such yet it's only a matter of time before that happens.

He gets more and more aware every game he plays. It's obvious the lad has natural ability but surely being alongside Virgil has helped him step up a notch (or three).

Best CB pairing in Europe? Got to be top 3 at least.

He has been one of our best players for a few weeks now.

If he can stay injury free it will be very difficult for Matip or Lovren to come again in the side.

I know that Klopp has never really played with a back 3 but it would be interesting to see a team like that in some games :

Ali - Gomez, Matip, van Dijk - AA, Hendo, Gini, Robbo - Bobby - Mane, Salah

Just incredible stats everywhere you look with Gomez.

He's featured in 15 Premier League matches this season and we've only conceded two goals when he's been on the pitch (against Norwich and Wolves). That's in over 900 minutes of football.

Last season he featured in 16 Premier League matches and we conceded four goals. So basically, for two seasons running now, he averages a goal conceded every eight matches.

Why play 3 CBs when we can make do with 2? It's not as if our FBs are hindered by their defensive duties, as they're probably the most attacking pair in the world.

There would literally be no difference in how much freedom they would have because Fab plays the role of the 3rd CB in covering anyway.

Would you rather Matip play instead of Fab, or would you rather Fab play as a CB? Doesn't seem necessary.

Will admit that I didn't rate him as a first 11 player at the beginning of the season. He has proved me wrong in a big way. Absolutely outstanding for the last couple of months. Didn't he cost like 1 million or something from Charlton? Unreal.

Had a mad 10 minutes before half time which could have cost us a couple of goals but responded well. Didnt like the way Danny Ings beat him a couple of times in one to one's and was also beat over the top a couple of times saying that Southampton might have been the best a team has played at Anfield this season and they still got walloped 4-0.

He's comfortably better, it's not even up for debate. Anyone disagreeing with you will have never watched De Ligt play properly and will just be going off the media hype he had last season. They certainly wouldn't have watched him play this season!

You’re not. De Ligt is massively overrated. Trent should’ve been the Golden Boy both years he won it. Just another “marketable” face that Uefa and FIFA are desperate to promote as the heir apparent to players of the Baresi, Maldini, Canavaro ilk. Frenkie de Jong and Juao Felix are in the same category for me. Don’t get me wrong: they’re all very good players, but not the Ronaldo/Messi heirs they’ve been touted to be.

Gomez is a far superior player to de Ligt in my opinion, although there were probably people on this site who would have disagreed last summer let alone on Twitter.

There probably are real and reasonable supporters on Twitter but that platform is drowning in “fans” who criticise anything. Doesn’t matter if the players are from their own club, these “fans” know best.

No player no matter how good is allowed even a slightly off performance, or if a player is selected they don’t agree with - the manager is clueless. Or if as alluded to above the player isn’t the current social media darling that they need to be seen to like to fit in.

That’s how it generally seems to work these days at least that’s how it seems to me anyway.
