Busquets has been really crap for a few years now. Should be a Milner type backup for Barca now at best.

Barca without Messi in their squad are on the same level as Aston Villa or West Ham.

This will be a long seasonfor Barca it seems but to be honest Real Madrid is not a very good team either.
Maybe a chance for those Atletico pricks.

Atletico would win it, if Simeone doesn't play his shit on a stick football.

Sevilla though might be in with a chance.

Took me around 30 minutes to notice Coutinho was playing, his form really fell of a cliff once he left us. Though it does say a lot about Griezmann and Dembele that he's starting over them...

Messi looked disinterested for much of that. Ramos’ tackle on him in the last minute summed up his game.

This game was a far cry from El Classico matches where you’d see Raul, Figo, Ronaldo, Zidane, Beckham, Carlos, Ronaldinho, Eto’o, Casillas, Puyol, Xavi et al.

He was brilliant last season for Bayern and been one of their best players this season - he wasn't great today, but nor was anyone else in the team - Fati was anonymous other than the tap in, Pedri was awful, both De Jong and Disco Biscuits were bad, Messi other than his 1 moment of genius looked poor, etc

Coutinho was getting pelters on the commentary I had on, I didn’t think he was that bad.

Should score the header but he’s hardly the only player in that game to miss a sitter. He kept trying to make something happen, albeit unsuccessfully. Think on a different day he scores that header and one of those runs he was making on the edge of the area comes off and we’re having a different conversation.

Yeah - the header as well needed to be *perfect* - Courtois was down so quickly that anything directed to the bottom corner he saves, so it almost needs either a fluke bounce or a header into the top corner - Understat had it as a 33% chance, and I think that's being a little generous. Messi missed an easier one and did eff all apart from that, and yet he is only ever mentioned as the GOAT

Betis official twitter expressed their surprise at Real Madrid getting a penalty for that shirt pull on Ramos via VAR... especially as just last week a very similar shirt pull on their player was deemed 'insufficient' for it to be a penalty by VAR... https://twitter.com/RealBetis/status/1320031725121118211

In what way? Much as I dislike Ramos, the only way you’re going to stop such blatant shirt pulling is by giving penalties. Once the ref is watching the VAR replay to ignore that shirt pulling would send all the wrong signals. Stupid from Barca as they’ve been on top the second half.

My threshold for penalties is fucking skyhigh, based on what has to happen to our players to be awarded one if you get my drift, anything less that gets awarded to other sides pisses me off

Really?  3 goals and 3 assists in 518 mins in the CL (so a G/A every 90 mins), and 8 goals and 6 assists in 1414 mins in the League (so a G/A every 101 min) isn't brilliant?  And that's with moving their on loan when out of form, and just as he was starting to really come good in the in the league when he had an injury that kept him out for 4-5 months.  That compares with Gnabrys GA every 100 mins in the league (22 in 2203 mins) very well, not as well in the Champo (GA every 78 mins) but is still outstanding for a CL campaign.  Compare that to the 2 players that played after Coutinho got injured - Perisic got 4 goals and 3 assists in 1200 mins (so GA  every 172 mins) in the league, and 3 goals and 3 assist in 424 mins in the CL (GA every 71 mins); Coman got 4 and 3 in 1507 (so a GA every 215 mins) in the league, and 3 goals and 1 assist in 552 mins in the CL (GA every 138 mins)

You must think Mane wasn't brilliant then last season, given his record is MUCH worse (18 goals and 7 assists in 2756 mins in the league, for a GA every 110 mins and 2 goals and 1 assist in 631 mins for a GA every 215 mins).  In fact, in the league, Mane has for us never got CLOSE to as good a record as that.

yeah, brilliant wouldnt be a word even the most ardent Bayern fan would use!

He was a nice enough loan signing, but the stats flatter him and don’t tell the whole story.

2 of his 3 CL goals where the last 2 goals of the 8-2 Barca drubbing. I don’t think he started any of the knockout games in the CL for them either, just coming on as an usually late-ish sub. Played a part sure, but certainly not a key one.

Same in the league, most of his goals came in 2 games - both drubbings, he was a squad player in a free-scoring scoring team.

Oh I agree that I’m fed up of Salah getting manhandled every time he goes in to the box, and Maguire getting away with his shit. That doesn’t take away for me though, the fact that such stupid and lazy shirt pulling like in the Barca Real game needs punishing by refs.

On a separate note, I’d be surprised if any of the Spanish sides make it into the Champions League semis this year.

Really?  3 goals and 3 assists in 518 mins in the CL (so a G/A every 90 mins),

Yes. Considering I've watched Bayern play a lot last year in the CL and Bundesliga. 2 out of those 3 goals came against Barca when the game was completely over and done with. [1 out of those 3 assists were also in that same game].

Quote
and 8 goals and 6 assists in 1414 mins in the League (so a G/A every 101 min)

He played in 23 matches in Germany, and in 16 of those he didn't score or have an assist. In a league where Bayern score a ridiculous amounts of goals, and trash pretty much every side on a consistent basis. No that doesn't equate to a brilliant season. Otherwise Bayern would have forked out 50 some million or so on him rather than getting Sane who missed most of the year with an ACL tear.

Anyone who watched them play doesn't need stats to tell you that Gnabry was the better player and had more impact on the game on a regular basis than Coutinho.

Quote

And why the fuck would you think that I would think such a ridiculous thing? Playing in England and playing in Germany is a massive difference for one. And second of all, anyone with half a brain knows that Mane brings so many things to us on the pitch that can't be measured by goal and assist statistics alone. It's absolutely stupid to use this as some kind of argument, and even dumber to suggest that I would think that.

It's nonsense. Numbers alone don't tell the entire story of how a player is performing. Coutinho was excellent when he played for us, particularly in his last season here. He was far from excellent at Bayern. Again anyone who watched them play and watched him play consistently can tell you this.

Exactly this. In five of the matches he scored/assisted in, Bayern won by 4/5 goals.

Extremely poor league this season if anyone of the big three we're their 2013-17 level they would probably win the league by Christmas.

Sevilla who I thought would do really well this season are struggling big time as well with 3 league defeats in a row. Then again Sevilla probably wanna go back to Europa League for next season and win number 7  ;D

Well, none of the big clubs have made an investment in the summer, but the big positive is that a lot of younger players are getting some serious playing time.
