Could be that old theory that they bought him to sell shirts? Clubs are seeming to get more shallow and commercial these days, no?

He's a handsome geezer for sure. Looks good in their catalogue stuff..

I doubt his shirt sales even comes close to covering his wages.

Says he owes Juve a lot (despite them effectively stalling his career). He's smart politically I suppose and I'd expect him to move clubs in the winter or next summer.

I liked him mostly because of his versatility. He could do a decent job in 3-4 positions (rb, cb, dm, cm, am??). He's born to be a very good squad player, but not a starter.

Tottenham?

Maybe! Although Man Utd seem to get linked with him, and of the bigger clubs they certainly need work on that dreadful midfield of theirs.  Arsenal maybe as well.

Just reckon from a money perspective, his options would be returing to the prem, or maybe Spain? I.E. Juventus won't let him go for nothing, can't see many teams stumping up decent money both in fees or wages that isn't a prem club.

I mean as a replacement for Milner, since he's probably the most versatile player on the market. Can play anywhere but striker.

Wait....re-sign Can?  :D Not sure there’s a more unlikely transfer.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. He has been fantastic professional for us, and gave massive contribution to our success, on and off the pitch. It's going to be impossible to replace such a versatile player, but also a true leader, especially in the training and in the dressing room.

Milner is consistent. Can isn't, ergo he can't be his replacement by any virtue. He's the same player he was when he signed for us in 2014. Hasn't made significant progress at all.

Tell us what you really think...

Really quite harsh, in my opinion, to say he shit on the club - he saw out his contract, never said a bad word whilst here, and always gave 100%. What more could really be asked of him? I don't agree about bringing him back; liked him as a player and and he suited the team at the time but he would be a utility player at best now. Just think the view needs tempering regarding what he did, or did not, do to the club

Apparently wanted by United and Arsenal. So he's basically come a full circle in 18 months. Still no idea what governed his decision to leave. Juve will make a tidy profit on him because they'll get over 20 million for him after signing him on free so I can see why they wanted the deal. But I still don't understand what the thinking behind Emre's decision was. He literally played in Kyiv for his last appearance (Most likely had already signed before then) but I can't imagine the thought process behind it.

Either way, he was never one of our proper starters and even though he had a MOTM game in him every once in a while, his inconsistency and lack of concentration at times has been repaired with more consistent midfielders now. Fabinho is far far superior a talent than Can will ever be so there's little to complain except for the fact that he was a decent player, if inconsistent, and his career should not nosedive like it has, but in the end if he goes to United, I hope he turns out to be the greatest flop they've seen since Veron.

He basically just lost 2 years of his career - I guess he played last year a decent amount.

He’s a decent squad player - and I’d love for Arsenal and United to rely on him as a midfield starter. Same mistakes as ever.

See where he ends up but maybe just didn't like the UK? If he goes to Spain or another Italian club I'd be thinking that.

Think it's his best position, if he's in a three. It's the easiest place to compensate for his lack of smarts and concentration, where his reasonable technique and passing range is above average compared to other defenders (which isn't the case in midfield)

Because he left on a free. I think it's a bit strong to say he 'shit on Liverpool' because of it.

At the end of the day, I wasn't bothered him leaving. Would've been nice to get a fee for him, but I can't imagine him getting many matches if he'd stayed.

I think at the time he saw it as a step up. He was moving to a team that was winning the title every year and competing in the CL. I suspect he was going to be on a wage that Liverpool were unwilling to match.

The problem is that some clubs see a free signing as an opportunity to 'mark 'em up and sell them on', which is the case here with Juve. Same happened with Michael Owen. They would know that English clubs would be interested in him again, and he might even take a pay cut to get some game time. It was a signing with plenty of upside for them. Shame Emre was too vain to see it.

Yeah.  Emre probably thought we had peaked, so he upped sticks.  Came out of it about as well as Coutinho though.

I admit it'll suck to see him playing for a different PL side, especially as he'll probably reserve his MotM performances for against us.  Other than that though he'll probably blow hot and cold.  There's not really a manager who can coax the best out of him on a consistent basis.  Certainly not Ole, Pep or Jose.  Would probably do a job for Chelsea as things stand. Or over with Brendan at Leicester where there's less pressure.
