What a horrible little man he has become. An arrogant, diving, conceited little snide. City are welcome to him.

Embarassment

Dived 3 times tonight alone. Screams for the referee at every opportunity, that second dive was ridiculous, just flopped to the floor and looked for the ref.  Tried to kick off with Van Dijk because he tried to get up and carry on with the game, kicked Virgil in the face/head in the process

It made me laugh to see him looking pissed off and kissing his teeth late in the game

Probably the player that gave us the most trouble tonight. Easily his best game against us since leaving. Seems to maintain his acceleration over a further distance than when he was with us and his close control is just excellent.

300 club and international appearances at 23 sounds ridiculous though.

Haha poetic justice.

At the end of the game his face was priceless stood with Sane,he looked well gutted.

He's got muscle injuries written all over him. Reckon he'll start to experience abit of wear & tear in coming seasons. He is a good technical player coupled with his natural speed & acceleration but his game intelligence and general IQ won't support him when his body feels the strain of playing so much football so young.

But mainly......... fuck him! A whiney twat who is clearly showing he was never a Liverpool player.

City's Ashley Young. He wouldn't get near our first eleven and I expect he'll be pushed out of theirs in the next year once Bernardo Silva starts really staking a claim.

Fair play to him. Think he's been on the brink of this kind of form for a while and deserves his league medal. Stepping into the modern day peak 24-28 years now. Him, De Brunye, Sane, Jesus against a lot of our key players coming into the similar age range. Think Liverpool and City are going to have quite the rivalry over the next 5 years.

I would personally be amazed if Pep doesn't see Sterling's position as one he can enhance given the resources available to him...

Maybe I'm bitter.

He's improved since he joined, he's 23, he's most likely going to keep improving. Would be premature for them to upgrade him already.

Come on now. How many players by age 23 are better right wingers than Sterling? 22 goals in 42 games in all competitions is excellent for someone who's finishing is still slightly erratic, the rest of his game however is almost completely top class.

Exactly right.

And Sane with better finishing and understanding of offside and dribbling will be Messi so again absolute bargain. And Joe Hart with better handling and reflexes and agility will be David De Gea, which is annoying.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Very funny. However, Sterling is still only 23, and the only reason I bring up the Salah comparison is because Salah was a very erratic finisher and very wasteful before coming to us before and even earlier in the season and he fixed that problem and is arguably the best player in the world right now.

Sterling will reach that level if he sorts out his finishing because every other part of his game is world class.

According to WhoScored.com and just using premier league stats....

Sterling averages 2.7 shots per game compared to Salah at 4 shots per game.

25 appearances by Sterling with 17 goals.  2.7 x 25 = 67.5 shots to get 17 goals (not sure what half a shot looks like!).  That's 4 (3.97) shots per goal.
Salah - 30 goals in 30 appearances. 4 x 30 = 120 shots for 30 goals.  That's 4 shots per goal.

That'd suggest his shooting isn't that erratic or Salah's is.

A major part of Salah's quality is he gets into positions to score more often.  Sterling has to improve that aspect of his game or be more clinical.

He's got some qualities, like the pace and movement that gets him to good positions where he can slip easy balls to tap in for other players or have a go himself, but when you see Mané or Leroy Sané play you immediately think "oh something extra in those lockers", you don't do that with Sterling. He's a solid winger, but is flattered by having an extremely attacking team with players that are insanely good on the ball like the Silvas, De Bruyne, Sané and Agüero around him. In a Mourinho team I don't think he'd be of greater use than Martial or Rashford this season.

speculative and hyberbolic

he's an excellent player who is now perceived as shit by large sections of our fanbase still bitter about his departure, but lets not go overboard in the other direction. he relies very much on pace so he could just as easily burn very brightly for a few years before his body lets him down and you're left with a slightly better Aaron Lennon. i'm really not arsed either way as we've got two of the best wingers i've had the pleasure of seeing in a red shirt

When compared to Leroy Sane technically he is a better player, only thing Sane does better is shoot, and even then he doesn't have the intelligence or movement to get into the positions to shoot more, Sterling does.

They really aren't.

Sterling is a clever player with a lot of pace. An unusual combination which normally indicates the presence of a world class player. The problem with Sterling is that he isn't that good at actually kicking a football. In fact he's fairly shite at it imo. I was very much against selling him but given the market at the time, as against the market now, we got a good deal - especially when we consider that the money, with a fair bit of change left over, was spent on Firminho.
