From the BBC - "Danny Ings, who has missed of the season with a knee injury, is now training with the ball now and "in a good way", according to Klopp."

Good. There's someone for whom the pre-season German Car and Betting Company Cup matches can't come quick enough...

Anybody know Ing's injury record for burnley and before?
was ok the 2 years before he joined us.

going back 3 years he missed about a dozen games in the league. 2011-12 he had a bad injury and missed a large chunk of the season. 2012-3 he must have been still recovering. 3 goals all season in about 33 games.

According to the internet:

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) surgery is a common knee injury procedure, but the overall incidence rate of having to go through it again within 24 months is 6 times greater than someone who has never had an ACL tear

Let's hope Ingsy's nightmare is over. But I reckon he'll need a loan next season.

I thought Danny Ings was one of the few bright spots at the club during the beginning of last season, it would be a shame if his chances with us are ruined because of injury. Wouldn't surprise me to see him out on loan next season to prove his form and fitness to the manager if we get some form of assurance regarding regular first team football.

That's a bit of a blinkered statement. We play as a team and as a team we are 2nd highest scorers so it doesn't matter much who is scoring and who isn't. Bring in a 20 goal per year player and that doesn't mean that our total goals scored will go up.

Our biggest problem is conceding goals and a new striker won't change that.
So are we a team or not can you make your mind up?

Because if we score as a team don't we also defend as a team and therefore a new striker would have an impact?

He's going to be slowly eased back.

Serious injury, I expect him to be with the U23s the majority of the season

Just hope we don't rush him.

Feared we did that last time.  Ings pushes himself so hard, he needs to be patient this time and not get another set back.

Gomez played a whole season in the U23s.  Might not be a bad thing for Ings to do the same.  Less games and he can really get fit and firing for the season after.

He probably won't like the sound of that though and will push himself, but I just hope he doesn't push himself too hard.

They could play in a two.  Solanke can play as an AM or wide.

Can see them playing together.

In relation to your other post I Dont think we rushed him. He played a bit part in a game in may 2016, from there a full pre season, some league cup games and friendlies and he didn't get injured it til October.

we have top medical personnel looking after him.

Lets all just be patient and hope he gains his fitness and form back with the u23s

Shite luck is exactly what it is

He was the one Rogers trusted more than Balotelli and Lambert.

2 years out of football and it is going to hurt anyone. Dings has pretty similar career with Jay Rodriguez who didn't come back as the same player after a long injury. Both were scoring consistently scoring goals and finally got called up by England. Although Jay was a slightly more stylish player.

Very unfortunate for them indeed.

Maybe not now.

But I think last season Klopp was prepared to give Ings a real chance.

I don't think anyone meant to rush him back.  But he came back pretty early and Ings does push himself so hard, maybe too hard at times.

Compare him to Gomez, he's had a full season in the U23s and now he's looking so strong as a result of that patience.

Maybe Ings was ready, who knows.  But I just hope Ings himself isn't too hard on himself.  He needs to be very careful this time, as another set back for him would be a disaster.  But patience seems tough for someone like Ings as he's so driven and hungry to do well.

Keeping Ings at u23 means less game time for young players like Solanke, Woodburn, and Brewster... and is Ings realistically ever going to force his way into the first team? He was already up against it before his injuries. There's 3-4 strikers ahead of him, 2 of whom are younger than him and only going to get better. Best thing for him would be to get a loan somewhere, perhaps at the top of the Championship where he can rediscover the scoring form he had for Burnley. Either that or a permanent move.

Yeah, guess it depends how highly Klopp rates him.

Could see him going on loan.

Burnley?

IF he goes on loan at any point, I'd hope it's to a team who play slightly better football.

Huddersfield would be a better shout. But I honestly dont' see him going anywhere yet, he'll be a way off fitness.

Not sure you've seen Huddersfield play in that case...

He's more likely to thrive in an environment he's used to and players and staff he'll still remember!

Good player with a good attitude and I hope he can resurrect his career this season given his age and potential.

this guy is not world class but then again 90% of the squad isnt

because of injuries he hasnt had a chance. he deserves one, for all the bad luck he has had and all the work he has put in

he looked very promising prior to the first injury. the game at Old trafford where Benteke scored the overhead he was the only one that played well (yet was taken off for some reason)

still very young too. the year he had in the premier with burnley shows the guy has some ability and dont forget just before his first injury he had just gotten in the england squad.

it might not work for him here but he deserves a chance, its pretty shit that in two years he hasnt had a proper fair crack of the whip

It would be madness to sell him now, he's actually a really good player. Was speaking to a Burnley fan the other day said he's still the best player he's personally seen at the club in his time supporting. Just was injury prone there too.

I think he should start off season here and then if hasn't played much loan him out in Jan.
