Danny Blanchett
« on: March 5, 2007, 12:56:50 pm »
LIVERPOOL are poised to sign Cambridge City sensation Danny Blanchett after the 19-year-old impressed boss Rafa Benitez.
The left-back was handed a 14-day trial last month and has made such an impact that the Reds have asked him to stay on.
The former QPR trainee said: "I am chuffed to bits."

Wooooo!
Balotelli, Falcao, Cavani...

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

In fact, I'll do you all a favor and ban myself from the January transfer window forum if we get anyone other than Etoo.

From 23rd February:

CAMBRIDGE City star Danny Blanchett could be on the verge of a move to Premiership Liverpool.

The 19-year-old Lilywhites left-back has been invited for a 14-day trial with the Merseyside club. He started training with the Liverpool reserves today (Friday, 23 February) at their headquarters at Melwood and will get a couple of run outs for the B team next week.

The FA Cup holders have scouted Blanchett four or five times so far this season before deciding to get left-footer in for a closer look.

A delighted Blanchett, who watched the Reds reserves at Wrexham last night, said: "I am chuffed to bits, but it is all a bit hard to take in .

"I am a bit nervous, but I will just let my football do the talking. Liverpool obviously like the way I play otherwise they wouldn't have brought me over."

Blanchett also paid tribute to his current manager Gary Roberts, adding: "Gary Roberts is one of the best managers I have played under. He has helped me with my game and has given me the chance to play at a decent level at a young age."

Meanwhile Roberts is happy for the youngster and former QPR trainee, who moved to Milton Road from Harrow Borough in March 2006.

The City boss said: "He has missed a large part of the season with injuries but he has been a good player for us. Liverpool have sent their southern scouts to watch him five times, so he'll go and train with them.

"He has played most of the season at left-back, but he can play all over. It is great for the club to attract that sort of attention.

"We never want to hold any of the lads back.

A lot of our players from last season moved up to Conference level and Danny will get his chance with Liverpool."

He is rated very highly at Cambridge City. Of course they are only a small club.
No-one is confirming that he is signing, but he has impressed.

last time we trialled a Cambridge City player we didn't end up signing him

I think he may now be Millwall's all-time top scorer ??

Reds role for Blanchett?

By Chris Stanton -  Created on 5 Mar 2007

Liverpool are expected to make a decision on trialist Danny Blanchett later this week.

The 18-year-old has returned to Cambridge City after undergoing a two-week trial at Anfield.

The player's manager at Cambridge, Gary Roberts, believes Blanchett, who would likely cost The Reds between £25,000 and £50,000, is capable of making the grade.

"I believe Liverpool will make a decision as to where they go with it this week and obviously we've had interest from other clubs," said Roberts.

"He enjoyed his trial tremendously and the set up there was so professional.

"Everyone was nice to him and the players were especially friendly, so he's only got good things to say about it.

"In terms of technique, he's as good as a pro now and there are aspects he would improve on if he went professional anyway."

This is part of our scouting set up, bringing in talented young British players who might have the skill to succeed,  and if they don't  players fom the UK seem to be vastly overpriced we might make a profit.
I doubt these youth investments affect our budget and scouting for first team players.

Goodbye & thank you Rafa. You've given us more than we ever had a right to expect from you and you stayed loyal and fought for us even when some of our own turned on you. I truly hope that you find somewhere with the support that you deserve & win everything in sight.

Danny Balnchett is now definitely not signing for us. There is a quote from Cambridge City saying he impressed LFC but the club are ''well covered in his position'' (left back)

So we shouldn't be looking to get Europe's top players before everyone realises they're that? It's a damn sight cheaper to pick up players before they're established. Ask Arsenal about Cesc Fabregas. They could get 10 useless kids but every time they find a Fabregas they're laughing.

As an example, Emiliano Insua is the kind of young left-back who can become a world star. Probably why we didn't make a move for this Blanchett lad.
