Labour thread - binned for the time being.
« on: November 30, 2020, 07:42:23 am »
As has been said many times this is a football website. Politics threads are an add-on for enjoyment and pleasure.

In recent years, threads about Labour have been difficult to moderate and the source of conflict because although we are all left-wing for the most part, there have been sharp divisions about the direction of the party.

I binned it early this morning and will discuss with the rest of the moderating team.

Personally, I don’t think there is much chance of things changing.

I didn't think it has been that bad recently.  It has certainly been much worse, that's for sure.

It was fine for ages until the Geoff thing happened. That's not to put all the blame on Geoff.

Why can't people just have a bit of self restraint and not ruin it for everyone.

It's a shame but there were a load of moderator reports overnight and we're going to end up banning decent posters.

As you say, it would be great if people could show restraint but it seems it's just too poisonous.

I was looking for something and didn't realise that the thing had been locked, let alone binned. Any chance of getting the thread back? It seems a shame to make it completely inaccessible.

It's a lather, rinse, repeat scenario, which is a fuckin ballache to mod, so it's unlikely it'll be back any time soon. There are looooooooooads of other places on t'interwebz to argue about politics.......

Understood. But it was more about what had already been written. No one could complain if RAWK decided to stop all future threads on politics and declared itself to be a politics-free site. It'd be a shame, as the football threads on RAWK are no longer very interesting. But throwing stuff away as if it has never been written is worthy of complaint. Can't you restore and lock?

I'll leave that decision to the mod wot binned it ;) One potential issue that could still arise from making it visible again is that it's still possible to quote posts and then cut/paste into a PM and the handbagging continues in the background. Whilst we have ways to deal with that (when it's brought to our attention), it's also a ballache - and yeah, in reality we're a footie site - but if the footie threads are no longer interesting, it's either cos perspectives/priorities change or people are feeling fed up with political threads taking too much space/energy so they drift away/stop writing - there are ways to change this - creating imaginative and interesting content is the responsibility of the collective, so anything you can do to contribute there will be appreciated.
