Naby Keita Watch
« on: August 29, 2017, 08:05:52 am »
Liverpool Football Club can confirm they have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for the future transfer of Naby Keita.

The Reds have agreed a deal with the German club and the midfielder that will see the 22-year-old move to Anfield on July 1, 2018 following the conclusion of the current season.

Keita, a Guinea international, joined Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in 2016 and scored eight goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances last term to help them to a second-place finish.

“I am delighted that an agreement has been reached which will allow me to join Liverpool Football Club next summer, when I will become part of a project that excites me greatly,” he said.

“My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. I have given my all every time I have worn the shirt – that will be the case until the final whistle, in my final appearance.

“Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. Until I join my new club, next summer, I will remain an interested supporter from a distance.”

Fantastic bit of business

So the club actually were working behind the scenes, and seemingly do know what they're doing. Who knew?!

Could easily be the most important signing we've made since Suarez. Attacking beast. Defensive beast. Think he'll be widely considered the world's best midfielder fairly soon.
Balotelli, Falcao, Cavani...

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

In fact, I'll do you all a favor and ban myself from the January transfer window forum if we get anyone other than Etoo.

Absolutely shocking they would do this shrouded in secrecy.  >:( ;D

Think this is great news, shows we are willing to splash the cash, implies another lovely year of Klopp and his plans coming together, and a great new player to look forward to :)

I may have to get BT Sport to watch some Bundesliga this season!

So, so happy with this signing- both in terms of us having signed such a good footballer but also that we are acting with a strong long term plan to build a squad that can challenge over a number of years. This is the sort of deal that the shrewd teams who have built their way to the top like Atletico and Juventus make- lets hope we can get a few more quality additions in now for this season.

Interesting player, but the nature of football, you live in the moment. One innocuous twist away from a permanent loss in your level. Will breathe a sigh of relief and welcome the fella when he actually turns up fit and fine with us, he should have enough nous to reign himself in meanwhile on the pitch, words aside.

Overall though, what a promising window it would be if we can close Van Dijk and Lemar. Better than an Anna Kournikova playboy spread.

Completely outta nowhere!

I haven't seen the lad play......but I'm glad Klopp has got the man he wants in the end (tho it will be next season).

Not sure I've ever seen a deal like this. He's not in his last year of contract so it's not any kind of pre-agreement...the clause isn't active now...but we have paid them a little over it as a "premium" to ensure he's ours.

But its not that we've bought him and loaned him back either  ???

Weird. Especially cos they rejected £66mil for him! Atleast they keep him for another season

He's ours tho, just hope he stays fit....and is successful.

They agreed to the deal specifically because they could then keep him for another season.

If he reigns himself in, he'll get injured. He won't reign himself in of course and why would he?

Well, what a bolt from the blue this was in the end. It was very early on in the window when BabaYagu came in for the first time (I think) since being away from here, and said something over the top about him ... it was a longish post, but it ended with a line like 'would be the most exciting signing we'll have made for the last god knows how long'. I was glad someone else said that - as I was nodding in total agreement. I think I've waited for a midfielder like Keita for about oooh... 30 years, but I'll keep that to myself I think.

Great move by the club... he will give the midfield wings (groan).

2) We can follow it up with some more signings to help us this year
3) Actually get CL footie next year.

Any chance we could get him on loan if things get a bit rough at RBL? Can't imagine the fans are too happy, might lead to a moral issue with them. I guess we had a similar experience with Suarez and we were happy to keep him as long as we could.

Brilliant! Once is became apparent that RBL weren't going to sign him, it was so important to get him signed up for next season. Another good season and we risked competing with some massive Clubs for him, which could have ended in disappointment.

Hope to see him at Anfield during the winter break cheering on the Reds!
