I see what you mean. I've seen lots of people who have been technically great on the guitar, even lots of buskers etc. But for creativity he's brilliant. And then his improvisation on stage, and the emotion that you mentioned, for me is unsurpassed. Best live act touring right now is Neil for me. I'm biased, but still. And as he's touring with Crazy Horse for the first time in a while, he should be sure to play the likes of Rockin In The Free World, Like A Hurricane, Powderfinger, Cowgirl In The Sand, Down By The River, hopefully Cortez The Killer too. Most of all I'm hoping he plays the Ragged Glory/Weld grungy stuff. If he plays Love and Only Love I'll be in my apple cart!

Gotta agree with Neil as well, 'Welfare mother make better lovers'  ;D

Philedelphia for me is the most haunting and heart tugging song ever.Just an absolutely fantastic song,  my favourite of all of his as is Springsteens Philidelphia , which brings a lump to my throat too for personal reasons.

Yes, an absolutely brilliant, moving song that.

Also a very ambitious musical setting from Mr. Young, who can often rely on tricks he already knows, with that one he hit it out of the park. Tried to learn to play it myself and failed miserably - how does he sing so bloody high?

Finally managed to get hold of some tickets to see Shakey - there must have been some returns after the initial sell out.

Got my brother a ticket - don't know how deeply he's explored Neil Young's back-catalogue but he'll have two months two get in there after his birthday.  Sorted his mate a ticket as well so it should be a cracking weekend.

Absolutely cannot wait.

It's with a heavy heart(of gold) I post this. I so so wanted to enjoy this gig, but it just didn't do it for me - whether it was the arena, Birmingham, the slightly excessive endings, the national anthem bit - it just didn't rock my rocks.

I say this after seeing him 4 times previous and each time I've bathed in his extensive endings and feedback and loved every second of his eternal scrap to fight another tune out of his guitar, but this time, this time I think I missed the boat. *epic woe is me*

Maybe I have been spoiled too much in the past, which now, has left me feeling bad about myself, about not liking it as much as I should of. :(

Roll on the Echo Arena and for me to improve my! performance.... I guess?

Well, I saw him last night in Glasgow, for the first time, and I thought the show was excellent. I man his age shouldn't be able to play that kind of set for two hours without a break. The 10 minute solo bit at the end of Walk Like A Giant did feel a bit uncomfortable though, but if he needed a wee break, fair play to him.

Los Lobos were the support band by the way. They played a slower version of La Bamba that was sensational I thought.

I went on a liitle tour of my own, to see Neils shows at  Glasgow , Dublin & London.

The setlist was slightly fluid across the three shows...eg Heart of Gold played at Glasgow , Cortez the Killer the encore at Dublin.

Of the three shows , the crowd at the O2 London (millenium dome) really got into it, no noticeable clapping or signs of discontent during the 10mins  or so of feedback that climaxes "Walk Like a Giant", and participated durning the extended "F*%Kin Up!".  Maybe that was why their reward was 'Like a Hurricane' as part of the three song encore there.

I enjoyed all 3 shows, yes I am a fan , but you have to bear in mind when going to see Neil ,he can play anything from his vast catalogue of songs which spans so many genres of music.

Crazy Horse were ace btw, and I am certainly looking forwrad to seeing the Show at the Arena in August

Most acts would kill their own grandmothers for the chance to encore with any one of those three songs in fairness.

Did they start of with the god Save the Queen  in Glasgae? like in Brum ( audable booing!)

If I'm honest I don't enjoy songs being dragged out, false endings etc, dont mind long songs and I found the feed back a drag when it hit the 15 minute mark( but it had been a long day!)...but the Brum gig was lots of drawn out endings which Im not  a fan of, NY or whoever...saying that he is fucking awsome and this may be the last chance we get to see him live, for his age he cant half rock out, but he is sixty odd....Cant wait for Liverpool...and if your reading this Neil, Powder Finger, Cinnamon Girl and Hurricane to start with then its up to you for the rest of the set

Zuma is getting a lot of love in Casa Elbow at the moment. "Don't Cry Me No Tears", "Barstool Blues" and of course, the mighty "Cortez". Mind you, "Through My Sails" is probably my favourite Neil song at the moment, along with "See The Sky About To Rain" from On The Beach.

What a performer.

He actually starts with the PA playing 'A Day in the Life' , and then plays the natiional anthem/song of the host country, so Flower of Scotland in glasgow (I asked the couple next to me what the name of that song was , just for a laugh like. Got killer looks back!!!...)

Dublin , being an outdoor gig , he didnt do that.

He may just want to review playing god save the queen at Liverpool, and go straight into the set following Day in the Life.

and perhaps the 'new' song , Hole in the Sky , with its 'I love the sun' chorus , may be wise to drop that.

Hope those going to the Echo enjoy it , he and Crazy Horse certainly do rock
.

Cortez the Killer the encore at Dublin.

I was at the O2 too, was absolutely brilliant. Gutted that he didn't play Cortez the Killer though. That really would have been the cherry on top of the cake!

I saw him in Melbourne and I think he did come out straight after 'A day in the life', may be wrong though.  He went straight into Powderfinger, it was amazing. Played Cortez as well.  Would love to find the setlist somewhere.

I have two standing tickets for Neil Young at the Echo next week and can't make it. Selling at bang on face value (£107 for the pair), so just PM me if interested.
