Was it the Escape ?

Paradiso is a great venue . It is a converted church and has a lovely sound to it .

It's not, but Amsterdam is just not going to stick to it. Called it straightaway. Whether you like it or not, it's one of our unique selling points.

It never was legal . Only "tolerated" .

Booked to go for my first time for  a birthday weekend at the end of this month with a few of the lads.

Just looking for accomodation now and have come across the Flying Pig or The Bulldog.

Anyone had any experience of these?

stay at Flying Pig before. the place is ok for a backpacking holiday. we were staying in a 8 beds doom.

very central and there is a "coffee shop" just opposite the hostel if you into that sort of thing.

The Bulldog is right in the Red Light District, IIRC.
It is not impossible, its just improbable

I've been about 14 times, and rarely drink.
I've usually gone in the week when there aren't crowds; and proceeded to get insanely caned and full of chocolate.

The Cheese in Homegrown Fantasy was always in demand when I went.

I always stayed in Budget Inn Hostel - cheap and cheerful, and 2 minds from centre.

I've stayed in both flying pigs and the bulldog.

The bulldog was was pretty horrible and sleazy.  Both flying pigs were awesome, couldn't recommend them more, really friendly, good bar and both have good (but different) locations.  the downtown one is very close to station and red light district, the uptown one is in a quieter area next to a huge park near leidseplein.

Jimmy Woo is boss. It really is. Great place to be. It's quite easy to get in since I'm not allowed to go in there yet I've been a couple of times.

A lad from Londonderry fell into a canal in the Dam at the weekend and died, very sad. Im heading there on my stag do and thats the one thing my bird is fearful of. Any of the locals know if this happens often? When I was there last year the two things that struck me that could happen on a stag do is falling into the canal and getting hit by a tram

If you are walking adjacent to the canals, its better to be safe anytime - winter or not especially if you cant swim.

But I wouldnt say its unsafe.

You should be more afraid of the bikes than the trams.

Yes I've been there, pretty decent, loved the aquarium after a few bifters...

I want to go back.
I used to have an annual tradition of going on my birthday, but the missus kiboshed it last year, she was sick of sitting in coffee shops like, fair enough. Next year though, I'm off. Shame it was my birthday this week so it'll be 12 month until I get there...

The zoo is good but the conditions of some of the animals are scandalous.

The penguin enclosure is fucking awful. It was 30 degree weather last time I went and they were stuck in a concrete pool all huddled in the shade.

And the bear pit..fucking hell.

Well we bought a lot of weed and I had money left over from £120's worth. I ate McNasty's for most of the weekend and didn't do much touristy stuff. I'll be taking £150 this time and trying to be more careful with it. Won't be smoking as much (he says) but plan to go to a club one night (which we didn't do last time) and can see that costing a fair amount.

Cheap food is Maoz for falafel , one of the wok places for noodles/rice , boss chips from Mannekin Pis or go to Albert Hijn (supermarket) for sandwiches or sausage rolls. Do not buy from around Warmoesstraat as it will be around 5 euro for a slice of pizza.

Go to the Last Waterhole on Leidseplein and you'll get 10 Jaegers for 10 euros ;)
Sounds boss. Is there anywhere where the weed is baked into edibles? Me and a few mates are big runners so wouldn't be too keen on any potential lung damage. I'm not too arsed either way honestly, but our coach heard we were going and gave us a right lecture on lung damage. Not that I think three days would do anything, but my mates are a bit more paranoid. Tips?

£90 in 3 days?

Da fuck?

I suppose if you don't drink or smoke then it's doable. But if you drink or smoke then you'll blitz through 100 euros a day easily. A gram of weed is around 15 euros and a beer is never less than 5.

I went for 3 days last week and spent 400 quid.

Hmm, actually don't know mate, usually (when I eat it, which is rare) I bake it myself as its more cost-efficient that way but I'll ask around mate.

As for lung damage from a 3 day trip... meh.. only if you and your mates have the virginest of lungs. Well.. actually depends on how much weed you want to consume. Myself, If i were a tourist, ;D Id go for the magic truffles (shrooms are outlawed nowadays, darn tourists cant handle their stuff) to be honest. Now that's a trip worth taking! There's an OKay smart shop near Leidseplein where you can get that kind of stuff (I'm not sure but I think you could even get some peyote or mescaline there if you are so inclined, sir). Just don't mix it with alcohol or weed or other drugs is my advice (or do, if you are a pro and/or can handle it all the more fun!)
Ah nice one lad. I suppose sorting it ourselves shouldn't be too much of a problem. Although we would be using a communal kitchen! I agree, three days shouldn't do too much, but the other guys are far more serious athletes than myself, and we even delayed going on this trip until the track season is over, so it coincides with a rest period we have every year after the final race. I'm far from hardcore myself, so don't want to be diving in at the deep end.

Wow, man, those are some crazy tourist prices. You should never ever buy in the red light district mate. You can get beers for under 3 euros, even in the Irish pubs (allthough a pint might be like 4,50). 1 gram of weed should be about 8-10 euros. Or you can go nuts and go to the Dampkring and get a gram of isolator for 25-50 euros*.

* isolator is not for rookies  ;D
I only buy my weed from 3 places when I go. Barneys, Amensia & Grey Area. Where the hell are you finding good weed at 8 euros? The isolator is some magic stuff!

As for the beer - I have to admit we do not venture too far looking for a beer!

My bird finishes Uni this week and as a surprise I'm thinking of taking her to Amsterdam, and keep it a massive surprise til she visits me next week.

Looking at doing the usual stuff like the coffee shops etc, then out for dinner then out on the ale etc.

Never been before so any idea what the prices are like etc? I imagine it'd be more expensive round the main bits, bit cheaper further out etc.

Any info would be good. :wave
