I'd say the best option is to try and delegate most of what you find tedious to your backroom staff and just focus on tactics and transfers to try and get through the game quicker.

That's what I do. Not really bothered about the really in-depth stuff.

Do you think the full game will be released early(tomorrow)? It usually is.
Yeah, should be around 18:00 GMT, think that's been the case for the last couple of editions.

It still takes quite some time to get through a season. I basically never do training (except for making some manual changes every blue moon) and I almost never do press conferences. I also have my assistant do all the friendlies, but it still takes quite long to get through a season. I played the mobile or touch version (don't remember which one) two years ago, when I had no PC for a while and had to use my tablet and you could get through a season in an afternoon or so. It had a much more oldschool feeling, because that's what you could do in the earlier FM versions or even back when it was CM.

But as I've said in this thread, I think they've managed to make it less of clusterfuck, because there were some versions like FM18 or 19 where playing FM really was like having a second job as a football manager and looking at every detail before every match to even have some kind of success. Loads of useful functions now where you can have one of your employees manage certain tasks like individual instructions before matches and stuff. Really looking forward to the new version and find it a bit strange, because on Gamepass it says it's out tomorrow and on Steam it says it's on the 9th...

Something I always do if there is a break of more than 5 days between games, is take myself on holiday until the next fixture. That speeds the game up a little as well.

I do that and then come back to find some clusterfuck when someone has come to me in those 5 days to talk about playing time, I've brushed them off by being on holiday and then the squad is in uproar ;D

I do feel the game needs to reign it in with players wanting a new contract only a month or two after they've signed a new one. I simply don't believe that happens in real life. Gets a bit ridiculous at times on the game.

I think that part is still a bit broken. It's ridiculous how loyal some of the players are to their mates in the squad. I get that they might be up in arms, if I don't give some no mark any playing time. But I hate it when one of my star players wants to leave and half of the team is unhappy, because I'm not selling him. Also some of the answers you can give them in the meeting (or in player meetings) are a bit dodgy. Why can't I tell them "So, you guys want me to sell your mate? Well fine, but be prepared to be fighting against relegation instead of trying to win the league or get into the CL". I also think there are some issues with how the game "remembers" those discussions, because in my current FM21 save I'm in the year 2029 or something like that and have changed clubs quite a few times. And in every interview I get asked about my horrible handling of players and how I need to get my things together to have a good mood in the squad. The problem is, having a good mood and a lot of togetherness has actually been the strong part in my teams every time. Yeah, there might be some disputes or heated discussions, but wherever I was the whole mood and togetherness went up and were at the highest whenever I left. I also don't like that when you're unemployed and apply for multiple jobs, which is something you'd probably do to look at all your options, the board asks you about it in the interview. I could see it happening every once in a while, but every time? Come on... At least ask me something like "We've seen you have applied to multiple jobs. Would we be your first choice out of those teams?"

Morale and player interaction are definitely wonky and OP. I understand it's an important part of the modern game but it doesn't really translate well to the PC as the logic seems off in places. Plus there's almost always a right answer in each version that is way too OP and keeps everyone satisfied irrespective of the player's personality.

It's why I have the in-game editor(I'd rather not use one, to be honest). Just sick of having a player coming to me complaining about lack of game time, giving them an explanation, them being satisfied with my answer, only for them to come back to me a few weeks later and complain about the same thing. It's like, I told you two weeks ago you'd have to settle for being a squad player and you were happy enough to accept your role in the team. :duh

It feels though, that it has gotten better in the newer versions, because you can still work with unhappy players in your squad. One thing why I stopped playing FM regularily was that there was a time, when you had one unhappy player you were basically fucked. In addition to that, after a longer period at the club it felt like your speeches before the match, during halftime and afterwards just stopped working, because people just stopped giving a fuck about what you're saying. It also felt like you had to basically just keep talking to players in one on ones to keep morale high. While that's somehow part of the whole thing, it was just tedious to keep tabs on the performances and then to arrange the one on one with the players. I like that now you automatically get an option in the news items to have a talk with a player, if they've done well in a match or in training or if they've been shite.

In the old games talking one-on-one with the players is much easier and rewarding.

My current project having put the Italian career on pause after consecutive league titles, is with my local club Nyköping to try and take them from the fourth tier (teams 61-132 in Sweden) to at the very least compete in the Champions League. Definitely a very hard challenge. So far moving up within the divisions a bit. At least they play in red  :wave

My yearly ritual of editing their stadium to Old ... Bog (RAWK has a filter on it haha) and moving their players to Chinese teams can begin!

Usually I have to edit the manager to be worse but Ole is bang average in it haha. Defending 5 out of 20! Reputation 2 and a half stars  ;D

In terms of gameplay it is. The only issue I encountered with FM21 is that you couldn't fix the names for certain clubs (like Juve) or national teams (the Germans for example) and for the competition. They are different in the game for licensing issues and to fix them you'd have to replace some files in the game folder. Problem with Gamepass is that it doesn't let you access the game files, so you can't make the necessary changes. With Steam it's no issue. I'm not sure if that is still the case with the new one, but I would imagine it is, because not allowing access to the game files wasn't something they did for FM specifically, but it's a general thing with Gamepass. No idea, why they do it. Getting other stuff like badges or player pictures works with the Gamepass version. I'll be giving the Gamepass version a go in the next couple of days, but I might buy the Steam version sometime in the future, if the whole fake names bother me too much.

There are two versions on game pass, the Xbox version and just the PC version. The Xbox version can be played on PC too but it is a more streamlined version of the game. The other version is the more traditional version of the game.

I believe you can mod the gamepass version this year. You should check out sortitouts or maybe the official forums for steps on how to do so.

Ah... Nice one. Was thinking that this might have changed with the enable mods thing. Do you know, if it's possible to use a different save-folder, because I have just realised today, that I have 30 GBs in pictures and logos and currently they're in my Documents folder which of course is on my boot drive. Would like to put it on another drive, but only found ways to do that in FM21 in the Steam and Epic Games versions.

Not sure since I don't have Gamepass but I found this comment on reddit, maybe you can give it a try and see if it works:

Quote
I just did logo pack. Quick explanation.

1.Open the xbox app on your computer, click enable mods just like you see in the screenshot above. 2. Click open mod folder. 3. Open the data folder and add a new folder in there called “graphics”. 4. Download the logo pack you want. 5. Extract with Winrar or 7 zip. 6. Copy the files and paste them into “graphics” 7. In the FM Home Screen open preferences->interface->uncheck the “cache to decrease loading times” and check “reload skin when confirming changes”

When it reloads you should have logos. Other fixes you will just have to read quick instructions online, but I think much of it is very similar

Got this through today, started new game as LFC. Horrified to have a budget of (not unrealistic for us) 20m, tried to get my board to buy me Lautaro Martinez who is not a big enough upgrade on what we have apparently.

Asked them to get my Mbappe instead. £101m and 325k per week later and he's all mine.  :)

Turns out you can't change the save folder. Per a mod post on the official forums:

Quote
As pointed out, this particular version is installed into protected folders and files are stored in temporary locations (and saved to the cloud, ultimately).

You are not able to change the user data location as such but you can use the user data folder in Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2022 to store facepacks and graphics.

Turns out you can't change the save folder. Per a mod post on the official forums:

The mod-thing works for the realword-name patch for certain (national-)teams, which is great. Think it's stupid that you can't change the save folder, because I hate having it on my boot-drive and I would imagine a lot of people don't like it either. Don't see why they don't let you just use a folder on a different drive.

Having said that, I really like the new match-engine. Feels a lot better than the one they had before. Headers feel more worthwhile and I like that shots get deflected. Other than that, I don't think they've changed that much. I like the new datacenter stuff, but some of the scouting-meeting stuff still seems broken...

Bought it for the first time since the 2018 one, looking forward to seeing if there are big improvements.

Are we a bit good on this?

I've only bought Raphinha in the Summer, and I've just hit November winning literally every game.

I can post my tactics, but they are genuinely quite basic, with only about 4/5 instructions in each section (2 in the last).

I actually don't like how easy it is at the minute, and I'm tempted to just start with a different team, which I've never done before.

I think it's pretty easy with every team, if you pick a decent tactic. It looked like that in FM21 and  my exploits in FM22 have been quite simliar. I chose a team in the second Austrian league and I got them promoted in my fist season, had one year in the Bundesliga where I was supposed to get relegated, but almost got them into a European competition and in the second season in the top flight I got to the Champions League. I  kind of pissed away they first few match days in the league to beat Galatasaray (no issue after a 3-0 win in the first leg) and then beat Marseille and Utrecht in penalties to get 14 million which was basically 7 times my annual budget. I didn't see any of that money and fucked off to Schalke. They were basically getting relegated with 1 point after 9 games, but now I'm 13th or something like that with 12 games to go. With a little bit of luck, I might even make a European place. I'm basically using similar tacticts all the time. 4-3-3 (or 4-1-2-1-1) with "Gegenpressing" and it works a treat... Was quite similar in FM21....

Any sort of high pressing football tends to guarantee you good results regardless of the calibre of your team. I just wish FM would evolve in this respect as AI teams are far too passive, especially if you're a decent team or in good form.

On FM 2022, gamepass for PC. Playing as the reds as per.

Have sent a scout to every one of Mbappe's games, made him my top priority, asked all my players to big us up in the press.

1 January 2022 and he is awaiting a work permit to join us on a free.

Never got to manage the lad in the game, looks like Bobby may have some competition!

Anyone playing this as Liverpool, who, if anyone have you bought so far?

I've just started a save, generally happy with the squad, but always looking to add any young decent players early in game.

Amine Gouri, buy him every year and he's good down the left wing. Seems a bit injury prone. Getting more expensive each year but he's only 22

In my first save I abandoned I convinced the board to buy us Sergej Milinković-Savić who is a little older but a brilliant midfield option

But our irl young talent have good ratings. Koumetio is doing well, Curtis is one for the future.

Origi is ridiculous on this. Scored about 25 goals first season as a squad option so was going to renew his contract, wouldn't and so off to Real for £62m.
