I'm not trying to defend the industry and if it came across as that, I'm sorry. It's just that the constant whining on the internet about how the gaming industry is shite and how developer/publisher X or Y is not what they used to be is becoming annoying. That won't change anything. What will change things, is not buying the next shiny new Fifa just because it has a 22 instead of a 21 in the end. Not buying the fourth itearation of the same game just updated for a new generation of consoles. Not spending money on microtransactions or stuff you don't think is worth it. Whining about how shite it all is, is no real use to anyone when sales figures suggests that the companies are make money with shite stuff. Again, the newest GTA V is top of the digital sales in the UK. An update of a game that was released two console generations ago. I don't care about it and a lot of other people in here don't either, but it seems many others do and spend money on it (even if it's not that much on PS5).
It's a bit like people whining about how shite the Simpsons have become and how it should be canceled. I just don't get it. If it's shite just stop watching it. I did at around season 20 and I have no problems because of it. The series still running doesn't bother me one bit. Same as with the shite practices in the gaming industry. I hate the Ubisoft-open-world-blueprint which makes every open world game they do the same no matter what franchise it is. Therefore, I'm not buying those games. What do I lose because of that? Nothing. On the contrary, it gives me the time to play stuff that is fun.
And there is still loads of stuff out there worth its money and making people love playing games as shown by various threads in this forum about Elden Ring (which seems to be a hit with people even though it's not my cup of tea), Horizon Forbidden West (or whatever it's called) and loads of other shouts in the "what are you playing"-thread. Yeah, Rockstar making another new edition of GTA V, having shitloads of microtransactions, introducing a monthly payment scheme or putting out a lacklustre remake of the GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas is shite. And yeah I rather wish they'd put that effort into producing a new game, but they won't give a flying fuck about what I think, because they won't get money from me for their newest GTA V edition, microtransactions or that stupid remake. They'll get money from me for a GTA VI. The problem is, that's a one off and there are more people who seem to be prepared to throw money at them on a regular basis for useless stuff (at least from my point of view). No point whining about that.
