Just wait for all the shite in the Jan transfer window and £80m + offers

Good to see that Suarez is settled and is playing so well, so all the bollocks can be ignored,
but we really do need to offer him an improved contract before Jan.

The only problem with a new contract is that he may want a release clause about
not finishing in CL places and and offer of say £50m + comes in from a team in the CL

That 700 pounds, I say we negotiate far, far higher.

Need to get his contract done asap with NO release cause. If Suarez persists in wanting one, put one for 200m+. He only has 2 years left...

I'm sure he'll sign it if we continue to show progress and finish in the top 3. Top 4 he may or may not, depending if we qualify for CL.

To be honest I'm dreading it. Not that I think he'll go anywhere in January,  but all the reports in the press linking so and so to him. We're going so well, and the last thing you need is players being unsettled in a transfer window. The club needs to ensure that every player is focused, and that all the media frenzy that is about to ensue doesn't affect anyone.

I thought he said "Steven is the real captain but I just wore the armband today and played for the team"?  ???

A changed man? Press react to Luis Suarez’s “humble” Player of the Year acceptance
By This Is Anfield on December 17, 2013

Luis Suarez was awarded the Football Supporters’ Federation Player of the Year last night at a glitzy award ceremony in North London.

Suarez was one of few players who turned out for the event at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium to accept his award and speak to fans and media.

Henry Winter of the Telegraph, who was awarded the Football Writer of the Year award, wrote how he felt humbled by the Uruguayan international’s appearance:

Mind you, Mr. Winter, maybe it was a night for redemption for more than one person. This is the same writer who labelled Suarez a “toxic cheat” in the summer, but cosied up for photographs to share the night with the 26-year-old anyway.

Plenty of the season to go of course, but right now he's out on his own for the end of season awards.

Mate, all through the summer and uptil his ban was done 90% of those morons thought 30 million was a fair price for him. Even after they spunked that on what's basically a beanpole with an afro.

90% of them still remain convinced despite all evidence to the contrary that us and Arsenal will rapidly fade  away and they'll make 3rd. Spoilt bunch of cretins. Hope we beat them to 4th by goal difference. I'll make a fucking DVD and celebrate. 2000 more years.

To be fair most of them on there think he's absolutely world class. And if Bale is worth 100m then Suarez is worth more. They all seem to think we have absolutely no chance of keeping him though. If Madrid want him, Madrid will have him, seems to be the train of thought on there.

I'm sure they do, and to be honest, if Madrid want him and are prepared to stump up  fee which represents near to his worth then of course he will go. But they have to be stupid, I mean really thick if they think we'd sell for £3m more than their Belgian mop.

They love him now he can speak some English; its like removing a barrier and they can suddenly see his real personality and realise that he is actually a nice guy.

That could all change in the summer of course, when he knocks England out of the World Cup by scoring with his hand or some such controversy.

While the press being on side is a good thing as far as Suarez's happiness is concerned, part of me thinks 'fuck 'em'.  They were only too happy to destroy him last year.  Granted, he didn't help himself, but some of the articles were so vitriolic they beggared belief.

The parting of the ways will come in a similar way to Ronaldo leaving United I think.

They knew he wanted away, stayed for one more season then left on very amicable terms.

I think Suarez made his position clear in the summer, he has to test himself against the best players in the Champions League, it's not money it's his destiny.

That's the deal. we all more or less know that, so if we don't make the Champions League the parting of the ways should have a modicum of respect and be reached to both parties satisfaction.

We don't want bad feeling to spoil our memory of a very special talent.

You probably aren't too far away here.

If it is true too, you have to say, that Suarez is certainly doing his best to ensure he gets CL here, and stays.

I expect he will until the summer.  The only way he will stay beyond that is if we win the league and even then it is only a possibility.  He does not just want to play in the Champions League, he wants to play with a side that has a decent chance of winning the thing.

That is insane.
However I'm almost as happy to see who is number three on that list. Sturridge on 9 in 12 is also some impressive stats.
When was the last time we had two strikers with stats like that?

Wish Wenger would shut the fuck up about Suarez. Stick your Giroud upfront and stop taking care about Liverpool players Arsene.

Well, if we don't get Champs League footy, he'll have no hard feelings from me leaving for another juggernaut club abroad. I'll be very sad about it, yes, but depending on how he conducts himself I'll give him a loving send-off. It's only right that he be playing regular European Cup matches at 28, he's not LFC's fucking martyr. In that context, labelling him a 'mercenary' for wanting it would be ridiculous.

However, if we grab our opportunity this season, make massive ground on our traditional rivals (at least the ones who are still at the races) and build on our promising squad foundations, I'm sure he would be able to see the appeal of taking us back up there where we belong. He's pretty settled here at the moment by all accounts, and we're also the only club worth being at where the team will most certainly be moulded around him.

That is insane.
However I'm almost as happy to see who is number three on that list. Sturridge on 9 in 12 is also some impressive stats.
When was the last time we had two strikers with stats like that?

There's 22 games left. Assuming he was fit and selected for each one, and kept up the same scoring rate he would be on course for 51 goals (in 33 matches).

This is the season by season PL top scorers:

2012–13   Robin van Persie (2)   26
2011–12   Robin van Persie   30
2010–11   Carlos Tévez   20
2010–11   Dimitar Berbatov   20
2009–10   Didier Drogba (2)   29
2008–09   Nicolas Anelka   19
2007–08   Cristiano Ronaldo   31
2006–07   Didier Drogba   20
2005–06   Thierry Henry (4)   27
2004–05   Thierry Henry (3)   25
2003–04   Thierry Henry (2)   30
2002–03   Ruud van Nistelrooy   25
2001–02   Thierry Henry   24
2000–01   Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (2)   23
1999–2000   Kevin Phillips   30
1998–99   Dwight Yorke   18
1998–99   Michael Owen (2)   18
1998–99   Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink   18
1997–98   Chris Sutton   18
1997–98   Michael Owen   18
1997–98   Dion Dublin   18
1996–97   Alan Shearer (3)   25
1995–96   Alan Shearer (2)   31
1994–95   Alan Shearer   34
1993–94   Andrew Cole   34
1992–93   Teddy Sheringham   22

I'm sure he won't get 50 + goals, injury, suspension rotation and the return of Sturridge are all possible factors, but the absolute top benchmark is 30 really and that's only been reached 3 times since the turn of the century.

I'm actually pretty certain he'll break 35 and set a new PL record, given the rate he's putting them away and his general resistance to niggling injuries. Bans are another matter, but I genuinely believe he's turned a new leaf on that front too.
