Don't think that is quite true - think he said that it was normal to have a drink during his time, and I'd think he wouldn't oppose team-bonding drinking or celebrating of winning a trophy or something like that.
The issue here is that it seems like Carroll's way to deal with frustration (bad game, accusations of diving, having his home ground booo him constantely) is getting smashed. That's not a good idea for anybody, but much less for a professional athlete. If it's a one off, maybe there's no problem, but if it becomes something more regulary, it'll lead to problems. Maybe he needs a talk with someone like Barton who seems to have overcome alcohol-related problems. In any case, it's probably something for the club to deal with, and not us.
