Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season.

The Spaniard, 51, was appointed in June 2014 following the club's promotion from the Championship.

The Hornets are 13th in the Premier League, but have won just two of their past 11 top-flight games.

Sanchez, who also guided Watford to the FA Cup semi-finals, will leave after the final game of the season - against Sunderland at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

"We would like to thank Quique. He and the team achieved the target set at the start of the season of staying in the Premier League for a second year," said a club statement.

"Quique leaves with all our best wishes for the future and the knowledge he is always welcome at Vicarage Road."

Absolutely stupid decision from the club in my opinion.

Didn't see any topic on Watford or Flores in the last few pages, but thought this was worth discussing because... it seems like absolutely bloody madness to me? They've had a poor second half to the season but they've only just been promoted, they've shown potential and he's kept them safe. What more do you want in your first season up?

They were talking about this over the pasty few weeks.

He has done a very good job there, keeping them in the league and cementing them as a decent mid table side this season.   Did they expect more?

The game is going to the dogs still it seems.

Kinda feel like this might end up a bit like when Leicester got rid of Pearson or Southampton sacked Adkins, and actually not turn out that bizarre after all. Obviously depends who they get in.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Flores did a decent job with them - Deeny and Ighalo's form dropped off something terrible in the latter half of the season

Regardless of whatever's going on in the background, I actually think that public statement stinks a bit.  Sanches and Watford have achieved far more than their target this season - after a promotion season and summer of upheaval, they're going to finish between 7-13 points clear of relegation with a respectable goal difference built upon a solid defence...they go in to the final game with a chance of finishing ahead of 4 very solid and experienced Premier League sides (West Brom, Palace, Everton, and Swansea).

It's not a major surprise given the talk over the last month or so, and - as El Lobo mentions - we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I think that statement undersells their achievement this season.

Have to agree with you, especially when you think of how many players they turned over in the summer. Must've signed about 15 players and it's not easy to get all of them to gel quickly. I think he's done a very decent job and shouldn't be short of offers elsewhere.

Yeah maybe.

He's done a good job there clearly, but sometimes it's not always a bad thing to change manager.

Incidentally I've just turned on FM and the first bit of news is 'Celta sack Quique Flores'  :o

For everyone saying it's a stupid or bizarre decision, it's how Watford are run. They got promoted to the PL using 4 different mangers in a season, they then got another new manager (Flores) for the premier league & got rid of the guy who got them promoted. They wanted Flores to keep them up, he's done that & now it's on to the next guy to do whatever their target is next season.

It's just how they operate & it's not conventional. Seems to work for them though

Shit decision and shows how messed up Football can be.

He and his team as well as players achieved a lot this season for a club of Watford's stature. He played good football, managed the players he had well and earned a respectable points tally.

The club itself note he achieved his targets, but still he goes walking?

Very silly decision, do Watford really think they can do better? Agreed the second half of the season was not good but they overachieved first half.

I think this is silly from them as a club.

"I've enjoyed it a lot at Watford," he says. "I thank the fans. It's been amazing. I achieved the target but it's football.

"I understand the board's decision. The club and me don't have the same point of view about the season. We have different conditions.

"The only thing I can say is thank you to the fans."

(from BBC livefeed at his press conference)

Sixth manager in a couple of years there isn't he? Know not all of that was done by owners, with a couple of health related retirements, but still.
"And the voices of the standing Kop still whispering in the wind will salute the wee Scots redman and he will still walk on.

It seems to be the Pozzo way. Since Granada got promoted in 2011, they have been through eight or nine coaches.

However, they have failed to progress in that time and have never finished higher than 15th.

Having a look at their League record underscores the bizarre nature of the decision.

Their losses have been to: Leicester, Arsenal, Spurs, City, United, West Ham, Southampton, Liverpool, Palace, Stoke, Palace and Norwich. Mostly teams well above them on the table. Arsenal are the only ones who really battered them.

Must be personal disagreement between him and owner, 'cos there's been little wrong with what he's achieved with them this season.

Southampton did the same with Adkins/Pochettino and it's not like managers tend to last long lower down the league anyway.

Can only think they've had a whisper that another high profile manager fancies the job and decided that, perhaps like us with Jurgen, they've got to act quickly to stand any chance of getting him.

As such, I wonder if Brendan might be the sort of fella that they want. With Everton managerless and Newcastle potentially without one if Rafa departs, I wonder if he might bring the type of football the owner wants to Watford.

In part a casualty of his own success.

The truth is he never recovered from the signing of Mario Suarez. Before he signed, he could comfortably play Ben Watson and capoue / abdi in a conventional Leicester like 442 with deeney dropping off ighalo. With Suarez, the big money signing, he had to play him but he couldn't drop Watson, so he changed the shape completely, playing two defensive midfielders and shuttling Anya / guerdioura to the wings. Deeney as well wasn't the foil for ighalo that he was previously, so ighalo was pretty isolated, which explains his drop off in form over the last 12 or so game weeks.

All in all, watford after having more or less secured survival from the first half of the campaign, probably reevaluated their priorities in the second half and Flores fell short of that. Bit harsh, but if he can't get them to play in a formation that both plays Suarez and protects ighalo's value, then he would've gone sooner or later imo.
You're all too fucking serious, the lot of you. Relax, we don't really matter.

Didn't they get promoted and sack their manager to bring in Flores? They seem to reward successful managers with a nice compensation package. Good of them...
