Burnley Football Club
« on: September 6, 2009, 11:39:55 pm »
Hosting a friendly on Tuesday at Turf Moor against Accrington Stanley to raise funds for Stanley as they need to pay the taxman £308k, all proceeds will go to ASFC.

Magnificent gesture from the clarets that i thought some people might like to know, with this news, keeping their promise of free season tickets for some this year and beating the rags last month they have gone right up in my estimation.

WELL PLAY BURNLEY & GIMME SIX!!!  ;) croysrycogtmzzzzzz

Pretty annoying that this kind of thing has to be done to keep the lower teams afloat.

The amount of money the top teams have, why can't they just share the wealth.

or why can't lower league teams manage themselves properly? it's not like they "forgot" to pay their tax is it?

Didn't realise Accrington Stanley were in so much trouble but there is teams in lower leagues than them who are in far great trouble.

Still a good gesture from Burnley though.

Nice to see.

You could argue the amount of money that the top teams are pumping into the game helps keep the smaller ones afloat.

Man City pay twice as much for Joleon Lescott as they should, Everton buy xxxx from the 2nd division, who in turn buy xxxxxx from the 3rd division and so on.

It's a trickle down effect.

At the end of the day, it's not nice for the clubs fans when their beloved club are in trouble and in danger of closing for good but lets face it, if they lived within their means then they wouldn't be in this mess. In a way Burnley are basically getting Accrington out of jail for fucking up.

I have known and still do know people running football clubs in the league and in non-league and you wonder sometimes how they ever got to be in charge of a business such as a football club. To me if you only pull in crowds of 1100 then your budget for the squad should reflect that, but Accrington budget for 1800 or around that amount and a decent FA Cup run as they admitted a few months ago , it's madness really.

In theory that is how it should work, but it doesn't really.

Your example wasn't very good because yes, Everton got £25 million for Lescott, but then spent that money abroad in getting Heitinga. So instead of money going into the English league, the reality is that 6/7 million has left it.

But it's not necesarily the clubs fault, and certainly not the fans fault, if some cowboy gets in control of the club and fucks it up. Which seems to be happening quite alot lately.

True but Accrington didn't have a cowboy in charge, their chairman had been their since they were in the unibond league, they just overstretched to achieve their ambition of getting back in the league.

Always liked the plucky little Lancastrians, great set of lads. Sean Dyche and his disc beard are particularly stylish and their brand of football is modern yet old school. I think they're great.

Remember lads, kicking the ball out of the keepers hands, and climbing on his back to stop him catching crosses is allowed.

Carry on.

Dyche would love to be part of the narrative of this title race. Not cos he wants Liverpool to win rather than city (maybe he does).

Sean Dyche has a mellifluous voice.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.
