Barca fans getting a little fed up of us.

Ha ha. The fucking state of that whopper ;D

Nor is it our fault that you're not good enough to stop them yourselves

Barca were European nobodies prior to 2006, and probably still would be had they never found Messi

Makes me think that they've no intention of selling him this summer.

I'd have us offer Barca £80m for Messi, just to send their fans into meltdown.

Was a very useful player, without ever approaching the Gerrard / Suarez / Mane / Salah / Van Dijk / Alisson level of importance to the team. Replaced easily.

We haven't replaced him at all to be honest, but we are a better team for having reinvested the Coutinho money. Both things can be true.

I wouldn't mind having him back actually. Cheeky 30m bid and they don't have to pay any more of the performance-based extras.

Put in a transfer request, Phil. You won't find another club with three other Brazilians who are making the CL final every season

I expect Croatia is probably a less progressive country than the UK. That's probably how.

Not excusing it mind, but it's also not that surprising. I don't know that I'd care to find out what Lovren's views on LGBTIQ people either, frankly. You just don't want to ask famous people you like for their social or political views because while you might sometimes win (e.g. Klopp), other times you lose, and can't look at them the same way again.

In my lifetime we've beaten them in Uefa cup semi-final in the treble season, last 16 in `07 and this year (don't care about the group stages in `02).

Basically Barca are our bitches.

I've got the 1976 semi as well in mine

We should really thank PSG buying Neymar from Barcelona.
Why?! He largely disappeared at Anfield and all. Same shithouse tactics as well. Watching Milner wipe him out in the first few minutes was one of this seasons many great joys.

They gave Barca £200 million in cash. Then, as Tepid says, Barca were suddenly desperate to buy someone and our very clever people tied them down over a barrel and humped the fuck out of them. PSG don't stump that money up, we don't sell him for such an inflated fee and use the cash to pay for Virgil and Allisson.

There's an argument to taking Coutinho back, for the right money (£75m or less). I think we all agree we need another player of the calibre of Mane/Firmino/Salah, well even spending £50m is no guarantee of success but we know Coutinho can do it for us and even better, in those turgid home games against bottom half teams, we can play all 4. Plus, surely his motivation would never be higher.

there really isn't though.

Liverpool are a better team without him, thanks in part to what the did with the money selling him generated. But more than that, this is a better unit, a closer unit, and more of a team without him.  No longer having to pander to his skill set is a good thing. Not to say Coutinho wasn't really good here under Klopp, he was, but the team now is better. Whatever money it would take, would be far better spent eleswhere. And the club also wouldn't want to send a message that they'll re-sign a player who feigned an injury and tried to disrupt the teams qualification to the CL to push through a move.

So no, no argument for bringing him back.

I wouldn't take him back. His season this year is the type you look at with a player that can totally derail his career until the end. He's only turning 27 soon and I think if Barca decide to sell him he's fucked. He still has the talent to do it but I'm not sure he'll have the will. Maybe he'll go to Juventus or PSG and sweep up trophies like I probably could playing in their leagues. I see people mention United but quite simply, he's not good enough to pick them out of the slumps himself.

I wouldn't have any dealings with Barca that would allow them to end the 3 year embargo on them signing another LFC player (well not embargo rather than an extra £89m 'premium clause on any player they attempt to buy from us until 2020).

His Liverpool career began in similar fashion as I recall. He fucked off just as things were getting good, leaving his career as one in permanent transition.

You rarely have to fight for your trophies at Real Madrid or Barcelona though. How many genuinely tough games do they have to play each season compared to us?

Don't think there's any chance of us going back in for him. Wouldn't even want him now. We've got a group of lads willing to run through walls for Klopp and the fans. That mentality has to be universal through the squad, Coutinho showed he never had that mentality by forcing through his move.

He's tainted now as far as I'm concerned. Confidence has been shot and doesn't look like turning it around despite it being his dream to play for Barca. Not really the mentality we seem to look for in a player.

Barca could cash in on him and cut their losses but judging by performances, I can't see many willing to gamble on him for the extortionate price they will no doubt demand.

Re Coutinho, Barca face a tough choice.  They're never going to make back the money they splashed on him (lol thanks again btw) so they either persevere and hope he comes good or jump ship on him now.  And Barcelona is not a patient side.

I honestly don't understand why they were so desperate to sign him in the first place that they were prepared to pay so much.  Klopp's team arguably made him look much better than he is.  He was a player amongst equals in our team, but Barca had Messi; Phil was never, ever going to be on a level to justify what Barca paid for him.  If Phil was worth €150m then Messi is worth double that.

I don't think it's that hard to understand, he was a phenomenally creative attacking midfielder with a terrific passing range who could dribble, or score from 30 yards out if he has space, and was scoring at a rate of almost one in two the last 18 months he was here (with one assist in three). If you look at his stats for the first half of last season, they were staggering. He just doesn't seem to fit in with a team built around King Messi, that's all.

Coutinho needed to succeed Messi not Iniesta. I'm not saying he's anywhere near as good as Messi (no one is or ever has been), but he operated at Liverpool as our 'go to' man whenever we were having problems breaking teams down. We saw it loads of times - the team funnelling the ball to Phil. We're a more rounded team now that he's left. But at Nou Camp Coutinho is a marginal figure, no longer at the centre of things, and unlikely to ever be so.

Quite why this has provoked the hatred of the Barcelona supporters I don't know.  They obviously know fuck all about football. And did you see how deserted their ground was at the weekend? Less than a club. More like a shopping mall.

that's my point though.  He was NEVER going to replicate that kind of form for a club like Barcelona, but nobody at Barca seemed to realise that.

As usual one of these "big" clubs saw a player pulling up trees and just decided they wanted them.  And they knew they would get him, for no other reason than who they were.  It was the ultimate "Because I can" move.  Now he looks like nothing but a very ill judged, flavour of the month vanity purchase.

Made absolutely no footballing or financial sense to spend that much money on a player that will be sharing a team with Messi - unless it's effing Messi!  Screwed them good and proper we did - they just splashed the cash on a player they obviously had no clear idea on how they were going to use.  They just seemed to plop him into their side and expect him to carry on like nothing had happened.
