This Lakers team is gonna be really fun for the analytics community. The Lakers don't project to be a great team and guys like Lance, Beasley, even Rondo don't offer much by the numbers. The Lakers have gone for the whole 'vet mentality and youth dev' approach, will be interesting to see how it pans out.
The league wants them to be relevant, hopefully they will be relevant until the 1st round of the play-off's ;) It's gonna be really interesting when all Lance, Rondo, McGee and Beasley are on the floor together. I'm expecting a lot of technicals and ejections  ;D

Bar Lebron signing, I am not a fan of your other summer signings honestly but the good thing is they are all on 1 year deal. You should've kept Randle imo.

I actually am happy with them, anymore than 1 year then I’d question it.

It's crazy that McGee is still their starting centre. They should have moved for Nerlens and groomed him a la Capela.

I don't think they need him much until the All Star break anyways, if healthy he could've been huge addition after the 2nd half of the season and play-off's. But i guess you are right and his health was red flag for the Lakers. 2019 doesn't have huge free agents imo given that Klay already said he will sign with the Warriors. I can see one of Kawhi, Butler and Irving being in Lakers and other 2 in the Knicks or Nets.

i think they were probably scared of putting too much pressure on someone after an injury like that (same injury kobe had that basically ended his career)

Yea i see jimmy/kawhi joining, and they'll probably attempt to go at boogie considering hes a 1 year rental to the warriors

I think they really just need another 20 to 25ppg scorer to accompany bron and some solid tough role players and they'll have a shot

Yeah read it’ll pretty much be close to full money but this is important because it will give the Lakers enough money to sign a player to a max contract in the summer of 2019. Lakers were scheduled to have about $25 million in cap space next summer, but will now have somewhere between $36 and $38 million.

EDIT: ESPN reporting with In buyout with Lakers, Luol Deng walked away from $7.5M on the $36.8M left on his contract. With waive and stretch provision, Lakers have cleared $38M in salary cap space in 2019 free agency.
Turns out he got a 7,3M reduction in buyout

Luol Deng Takes $7.3M Salary Reduction In Buyout With Lakers

Luol Deng agreed to a $7.3 million reduction in salary with his buyout agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers will use the waive and stretch provision on Deng.

The Lakers will have $38 million in cap space in 2019.

Deng played in just one game last season with the Lakers.

I doubt Lakers to at Boogie. What’s the point not having him this year if you want him in the summer?

Worst comes to worst, if his recovery and assimilation into the team doesn’t pan out well, then give him a reduced role in the playoffs. But 5.3m gets you:  a gamble at a (super)star playoff addition; guarantees the assimilation of that potential superstar into your locker room and organisation; and hence both aids your chances of signing him in 2019 long term; and gives you and the player a head start compared and familiarity with the system as opposed to signing with a different organisation altogether.

So basically my point is that if the lakers wanted him next summer then they’d definitely have moved for him this summer because the positives of having him far outweigh the meagre price of 5m. 5m dollars to gamble for an all-NBA player? Every team in the league would do that - Lakers must have really disregarded DMC if he felt neglected enough to sign with the Warriors.

Jimmy Butler Informs Wolves Of Preference To Be Dealt To Heat

Jimmy Butler and his agent have informed the Minnesota Timberwolves he prefers a trade to the Miami Heat.

Butler initially had the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets on his wish list.

The Heat have reportedly been amongst the most aggressive teams in trying to trade for Butler.

Butler will be a free agent in 2019.

Cousins wrote his story of moving to Warriors, good read.

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/demarcus-cousins-golden-state-warriors
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I am a Warrior now.

It was the best basketball decision I ever made, and I’ll tell you why.

But I want to say something real quick about New Orleans. I know some people might still be looking at the situation like, Boogie was never really invested. He left after a year. He took the easy road.

I’m a Mobile, Alabama kid. I got family close by. The truth is, I assumed I was staying. So in June, I’m looking at houses. I knew which neighborhood I wanted to be in — just had to make sure the house would have a yard big enough for my dogs. I’ve got three dogs. Gotti, Biggie and Queenie. They need a good-sized yard to roam.

There was never anything negative with the Pelicans. We felt like we were creating something special. We had AD, we had Jrue, doing what they do on a nightly basis. We were steadily building that foundation you need to win. I was heavy involved in recruiting new guys. I helped get Rajon Rondo. I helped get Jameer Nelson. I helped get Tony Allen, I helped get Ian Clark. I helped get Nikola Mirotic. Even after I was injured, I was making a case for the guys I thought would fit there. Like I said, we were building that foundation.

And last year in the playoffs, I was proud of how those guys played. We swept the Blazers and we gave the Warriors a lot of heart. Look at it: We were the only team, outside of Houston, that took a game off them. I never wanted to play ball more in my life than that series. Still proud of y’all.

Then free agency hit. It was a lot of, We might be interested. We don’t know if it’s the right fit. All of a sudden, I wasn’t hearing from the Pelicans. I wasn’t hearing from no one. That was tough. We in a nasty business, at times. I don’t even say that in a good or bad way. It’s just no place to get too emotional. The facts are still the same. I was expecting to be back in New Orleans, and I was proud of what we were starting there.

I couldn’t sleep for two days. When it was clear I couldn’t stay in New Orleans, I went out and created what would end up being the best opportunity for myself. I asked my agent to set up a call with the Warriors. I knew they could use a big.

I called Bob Myers up.

On God, Bob thought it was a prank. He asked us like five times if we were being serious. I broke it down as clear as I could. I told him about the Pelicans and how nothing was making sense anymore. I told him it was like other teams were treating me like I didn’t have a career left after the injury.

And I said I’d take the minimum. I just wanted a team that wanted me. I was telling him: I wanted to play on the biggest stage and make the most impact I could. After that, Bob wasn’t thinking it was a prank.

First, Bob wanted me to talk to Coach Kerr and the guys, to make sure it was cool with them. So I called up KD. I called up Steph. I talked to Draymond. I talked to Coach Kerr. I wasn’t sure how they’d take the idea of me coming on board. It’s the back-to-back defending champs. I was half expecting them to not want to add anything new to that machine.

But, it was the opposite. They couldn’t have been any more cool with it.

Coach was funny on the phone. He was all about it, asking me how I saw myself in their system, things like that. And then right before we hung up, he goes, “You’re gonna make me have to actually coach this year, huh?”

Steph has been great through all this. He’s been texting me this summer. It’s usually like a photo of him cheesing super hard.

Draymond and I talked a few times. He’s been great. And even KD came through Vegas this summer and we kicked it. The rest of the summer, he was still sending me texts about how he was in shock about it. He’s like, “I still can’t believe this happened.” Me neither, man.

Didn’t talk to Klay until right before training camp. Don’t know where that dude was at this summer. China, is my guess? But for real, I’m looking forward to being that guy’s teammate. All the guys talk about him as the best teammate. Need some of the zen Klay’s got.

Think about this for a second. We are talking a group of MVPs and All-Stars who have won the championship three outta the last four years.

And no egos about adding another guy to the lineup. It’s special.

That’s kind of it, you know? I was in New Orleans. Then I wasn’t anywhere. Then I called the Warriors. It ain’t that complicated to me.

I’ve been getting settled in the Bay. Looking for a spot with a yard big enough for Gotti, Biggie and Queenie. I’ve been rehabbing and working out at the Warriors facility. Everybody in the organization has been cool. There’s a vibe here. You see it in the other guys and in Coach Kerr and the front office, and you feel it in the staff and everyone else. Nobody is thinking about anything but a championship. They carry themselves like it. I’ve been missing basketball — and playing ball, that’s what it’s always been about for me. I found a new place where I’m being welcomed with open arms.

I’ll be back at 100% this season. A year from now, looking back, I know this is going to be the best decision I ever made.

76ers couldn't beat the Celtics last season, how they beating them this season?

6ers didn't improve their team and Boston got two of their big stars back.

If the Warriors hadn't added Cousins I'd have Boston as title favourites with the roster they have and that incredible coach they got.

Agreed about the West but i think 76ers come from the East.

Bold prediction. I am curious why you think that. I can see Embiid, Simmons, and Saric getting better this season. Much of their success will depend on Simmons developing a jump shot and Fultz just making an appearance on the court, neither of which I would be confident of as a Sixers fan.

I predict Kyrie and Chris Paul will miss games in the latter stages of the play offs.

76ers couldn't beat the Celtics last season, how they beating them this season?

6ers didn't improve their team and Boston got two of their big stars back.

If the Warriors hadn't added Cousins I'd have Boston as title favourites with the roster they have and that incredible coach they got.
3 games went down to the wire and 76ers lost them by 3 or less points in last seconds if my memory serves me correct. In fact they were up huge by double digits yet lost due to mental errors. Last year their goal was the play off's, they overachieved. They are more experienced now, i just think they have what it takes to win the East. Getting rid of Colangelo and bringing Elton Brand can helps this group a lot. Wilson Chandler will be a great addition for them. Fultz will be almost like a new top pick addition.

As for the Celtics, I am afraid you won't see a peak Hayward or Kyrie anymore. Hayward will be rusty until at least the All Star break. Last season Rozier, Tatum all played like a super star in the post season, this year their minutes will go down and believe or not, I actually think they will not even make the ECF this season.

i really like their core and Embiid, Saric, Simmons, Fultz will all be much better than last year come May 2019. That will be huge and hopefully they will be healthy. Simmons, Embiid and Covington are all elite defenders and people sleep on your bench, watch out Furkan Korkmaz, he will be more than ready this year, Muscala is a solid body in the paint to rest Embiid, Landry Shamet kid can be one of the steals in the draft. Chandler was a very good addition imo. I'm just really high on them this year, they will be the best team in the East.
