It’s a perfectly understandable stance. We had relentless bad luck with injuries last season that ruined our title chances and so nearly put us in the Europa League. We saw how one reckless moment (Pickford) can take a season out of a players career and we even saw how fielding starters (Jota) in meaningless games like tonight’s can backfire.

If people want us to field the likes of Salah and Mane every game that’s fine. I don’t see why opposing that is so radical though.

He explained about keeping players in their rhythm. That you can't just take the top players out of a match, play the kids, and expect the top players to raise their game the next match.

Yes, Alisson is the major surprise for me in that team certainly more surprising than Salah. Mind you is Kelleher coming back from injury as well? I think he missed the recent internationals.

I know some people are saying that team is strong, but there are a lot of changes; FBs rested, so Tsimikas and Williams gets minutes, which is great, Konate gets minutes, also positive, Chamberlain and Thiago also need minutes, great, Morton starts, that's got to be exciting for everyone involved, Minamino gets deserved minutes. It's really only Salah and Mane that there are question marks over and though I am sure Origi is disappointed to not get on, but you would have expected one of those to have started. Perhaps the only pity is that Phillips didn't get a run for Matip, but that's a flip of a coin really. Both Origi and Philips will come on if things are going well.

Why not? Do players suddenly start playing badly if there's a week between games? Because that isn't a phenomenon I've ever witnessed.
